23.01.2022 Hard to believe that this time tomorrow I’ll be not far away from crossing the line and finishing my first full Ironman. I only decided about 3 weeks ago I was going to do this race as I originally planned to do Ironman WA as my first full distance, but coach @robdendle @tcr_tricoaching and I have got a good plan in place and have put in the work to be able to go the distance. 22.01.2022 Exactly 7 days ago I’d just gone over the hill at Rex Lookout on my final lap on the Captain Cook Highway, and was making my way back in to Cairns on the bike. I’ve done a lot of reflecting this past week; what I did well, and (which I can’t help lingering on) what could be improved. I think that after completing this race it’s helped me to become a better athlete, and even taught me some valuable life lessons. My three biggest takeaways have been: 1 - Race to the conditions...: a plan is a guide for success, but if you are too rigid in implementing it, it can become detrimental. 2 - Listen to your body: it’s a bloody long race, if you get caught up racing anyone else but yourself you can kiss your little cotton socks goodbye 3 - Nutrition Nutrition Nutrition (@robdendle couldn’t drill this home enough but I still stuffed it up ) - Take in your nutrition little and often, and take the time you need to get the amount of WATER you NEED, even if it means sacrificing a few minutes here and there, because you can’t make up for it later on If anyone reading this can take something away from my experience, every bit of it will be even more worth it #concepttiles #kasksport #ridebmc #triathlon #swimbikerun #triathlete #ironman #running #trilife #cycling #triathlontraining #run #fitness #ironmantraining #swimming #swim #training #tri365 #australia #ironmantri #cycle #bike #runner #tri #triathlonlife #tritraining #motivation #sunshinecoast #garmin #marathon @ Cairns, Queensland, Australia

12.01.2022 I’m 7 days out from my first ever full-distance Ironman event (3.8km , 180km , 42.2km ), and I don’t think it’s quite registered what I’ve actually gotten myself into I had originally intended to race Ironman WA as my first, however for obvious reasons I’m unable to make the trip over. So, since it was the only opportunity to give a full distance Ironman event a crack within the foreseeable future, I decided just before IM 70.3 Sunshine Coast that I’d take a leap... of faith and make the journey up to Cairns! I’m really excited to tick this one off the bucket list, and I’m confident that I’ve got the physical and mental capacity to get the job done. 12.01.2022 The second leg of the road trip up to Cairns was a bit more eventful than the first (which was full of mostly dry and flat expanses of land). Made a pitstop in Bowen bc who wouldn’t stop for mango , and met a familiar face @gregmcdermottcoach on the side of the road as he cycles from Peregian-Cairns!! (The distance in the car has taken @leigh__obrien and I ~20 hours driving not counting stoppages). 11.01.2022 2020, what a year! Now that it’s nearing it’s end I thought I’d share a bit of a reflective post of some of my highlights It all started off when no one was worrying about COVID and everyone was up in arms about the bushfires this was when I had some local races in the summer of 2020, and then managed to squeeze in Mooloolaba tri before everything got shut down. I had a bit of a disappointing race, and ensuing months I switched my sole focus to being able to perform... when races finally started back up again. When the initial wave was over, I was very lucky to have had all the opportunities to race living in Queensland, and the restrictions that we had to deal with were insignificant compared to most other places around the globe. After restrictions began to ease I absolutely went for it, and podiumed in every race I entered. I qualified for 70.3 world champs at 70.3 Sunshine Coast, decided I was going to do an Ironman on 2 weeks notice (and it showed ) and was still only 20 mins off a kona slot after completely blowing up, and became the State Long-Course champion for my age up in Hervey Bay. 2021 will bring on new challenges, as I’m heading back to uni next year and attempting to do a badass juggling act, and after some reflection I’m proud of my progress and excited for what the new year may bring! #concepttiles #kasksport #ridebmc @ Sunshine Coast, Queensland See more

02.01.2022 3 weeks ago I decided I was going to come up to Cairns and do my first Ironman. It was a very hot day all around, and quite a tough bike course, which I underestimated the impact this would have on me towards the end of the race. Something which I have been told and which I now realize the gravity of is any mistakes you make early on in an Ironman can really bite you in the ass later on, especially when you have to run a marathon at the end Vomiting up my nutrition on the r...un and having severe cramps going all the way through both legs from the 20km mark made this one of the most physically and mentally challenging things I’ve ever experienced. At the end of the day, I’m competitive by nature, I enjoy pushing my limits and sometimes the only way for me to learn is the hard way - I’m going to be all the better athlete from this experience.
