19.01.2022 To comply with Criterion GP1.1 Responsive system for patient care, your practice must have a triage system so you are able to identify patients’ needs and provide appropriate care. You must prioritise patients according to the urgency of their needs (and also retain evidence of this). Having your triage guidelines such as a triage flowchart readily available at reception gives your staff a quick reference guide on how to prioritise patients. 10.01.2022 Medicare-subsidised telehealth services will be extended until 31 December 2021. Telehealth services were expanded last year after coronavirus restrictions made... it difficult for some Australians to seek medical assistance. These services mean people can have a consultation with a nurse, doctor, psychologist, surgeon and other healthcare providers without having to visit them in person. Between 13 March 2020 and 31 March 2021, more than 54 million telehealth services were completed. Want to learn more about how telehealth works? 09.01.2022 To comply with Indicator C7.1E, you must document the patient’s Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status in their health records. The RACGP encourages this as the information can be an important indicator of clinical risk factors and therefore help practices to provide relevant care. It should be explained to patients that questions about their cultural background which can be asked on your 'New Patient Form' assist the practice in providing appropriate healthcare. Reference: https://www.racgp.org.au//Standards-for-general-practice-5 Resources which provide practical actions and advice to support your practice to provide effective primary healthcare for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are available on the RACGP website: https://www.racgp.org.au//aboriginal-and/guides/resources
