Posted @withregram @onwards.studio After this local artists recent success in the Onwards Gallery, we’re so happy to have @melisahmay83 sharing her incredible work again at tomorrow’s ART MINI-MART. May has always made Art and studied a Bachelor of Illustration (Natural History) at the University of Newcastle from 2002-2005. She then moved on to a Bachelor of Education in Fine Arts and began her teaching career in 2008. After a 2 year stay in London, working he...avily on her painting practice and teaching Art, she returned to Newcastle to pursue both paths further. Throughout, she maintains her independent art practice exhibiting in solo and group shows. Her work has crossed the boundaries of painting, design and photography, and her current practice aims to push further outside her comfort zone. 21.01.2022 Today I achieved something. Today I finished the last of 4 very large murals for the Kent in Beaumont st Hamilton. I started these at the beginning of the covid pandemic, when @kezdesign asked me to paint a mural via zoom and introduced me to the formidable marketing wiz Ricci lee. During the lockdown, I worked hard on creating designs that not only paid tribute to the historic old pub, but injected life and colour into a familiar place for so many. Now, as lock downs are eas...ing, and the hotel is able to start welcoming back patrons, I am extremely proud to say I have contributed to making a place that is very special to many, a brighter place to be. Yes we have all had that 1 (or maybe more) big ol drunk night at the Kent but what Ive learned from being there this past couple of months is that it is a much loved and missed part of the Hamilton community. Ive had the pleasure of being there painting as the hotel has slowly welcomed back regulars who were just so happy to see the staff and sit down for a meal. The last but not least thing I am grateful for, is that during a global pandemic, amongst so much chaos and tragedy, I can look back on this time and remember the epic project I worked on and be happy that I did something so positive. 14.01.2022 Posted @withregram @twowildhands Last night I shared a black square. It was an act of solidarity, an act of support for BIPOC communities around the world. Pausing any of my own content as its not important in times of crisis. I am still learning, I am still listening, but I realise that this was not the right way to show my support. I recognise my privilege and I will continue to share on my stories, as I have the last few days, information, support, and voices that matter. We are somewhat removed from America here in Australia, we can only watch in horror at the news. But Australia has a black history too, and its important that that is equally fought for.
