Make sure you stop by the gallery to view Robby and Jackie’s breathtaking works in person. @lake_tyrrell_arts ________________ Burning the land removes toxins and growth inhibitors which in turn allows our country to regenerate and remain healthy. We can use the same method in our lives like a seasonal burn... to achieve the same outcome. At times, burning off in our mind and our lives will see the loss of possessions, relationships and sometimes even family members. However, in time they will be replaced with something healthier. - Robby Wirramanda ________________ For all enquiries, please contact at [email protected], call 03 9500 8511, or send us a DM here. 10.01.2022 'Sad Face' by LOUIS PRATT (Laser etched glass, oil paint and metal leaf with plywood support and frame, 53 x 35 x 3.5 cm, $550) This work perfectly summarises how we feel about not being able to share Louis Pratt's current exhibition, 'Future Nostalgia', with you in person... In light of Victoria's current lockdown, we will be extending Pratt's show until July 3rd, where his works will feature among our much-anticipated 20th anniversary group exhibition.... You can still view all the works in 'Future Nostalgia' via our website from the comfort of your home, and our art consultants are by the phone/email if you have any questions. Continue reading for a few words from Pratt about his glass etchings: "In this show, I draw on past materials, techniques and reimagine them for the questions of the near future. The glass etching works page homage to another time in history - that of early photography... The etchings employ iconography that is part of our 21st century, while drawing on a combination of traditional techniques and laser technology." - @louispratt.artist To read more about Pratt's process of creation, visit our website. #louispratt #glassetching #photography #sadface #lockdownblues

08.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS Joshua Cocking on becoming a finalist in the 2020 Lester Prize for Portraiture! @thelesterprize This is now the 6th time Cocking has been awarded a finalist in this prestigious prize, which will be on display at @artgallerywa This year's work is titled 'Making Plants' (A Portrait of Franque). Winners will be announced later October, please see a statement on the work by the artist below - 'On one hand it’s a painting of my neighbour Franque holding a pool toy... wrapped in alfoil. On the other hand it’s a painting about issues I think are important to discuss in this country like colonisation and inherited history. But that’s the beauty and paradox of art. It can talk about various things simultaneously. I wanted to create an archaic Australian diorama. Through visual graftings of everything that influences me inside and outside of the studio on a daily basis. Anchored in Australian art history, the colonial paintings serve as a backdrop to some bizarre contemporary landscape based performance. Which is what we’re all doing really, dancing on the stage of our country's history.' Featured Work: 'Making Plants' (A Portrait of Franque) Joshua Cocking @joshcockingart Oil on linen

05.01.2022 NEW WORKS: JORNA NEWBERRY There's much excitement in the gallery today as we have received five new works by Pitjantjatjara artist Jorna Newberry. Jorna's works are breathtaking displays of contemporary indigenous art; Using a subtle and sophisticated colour palette of whites and creams, her paintings portray in exquisite detail the story of the Perentie Lizard, a significant reptile to Aboriginal culture. The circular patterning and intricate dotting depict the Perentie liza...rd's unique skin, while the swirling designs represent the tracks of the animals and the contours of the landscape. Following Jorna's February exhibition at Metro, we are fortunate to also have several additional works of varying sizes. Stop by the gallery to view these important works in person, or get in touch with us at [email protected] and we'll send you more information. #jornanewberry #indigenousart #aboriginalartist #artsales #womanartists #melbournegallery #aboriginalart #perentielizard

03.01.2022 'What will get you up tomorrow' by Saxon QUINN (Mixed media, 83 x 113 cm, $2,700) Metro Gallery is excited to present 'Only One in the Room', an exhibition of recent paintings, sculpture, and installation works by SAXON QUINN, opening Wednesday 24th February.... Like so many artists, Saxon had created this body of work during the period of Melbourne’s 2020 lockdown whilst in physicalas well as spiritualisolation. Only one in the room acts as my daily meditation, a way to battle my demons and calm my inner thoughts. From sketching shapes in my notepad and pouring cement, to forcefully making myself wait 48 hours whilst the cement sets, all work as a calming ritual. Everything stops during these moments and nothing else matters" - @saxonjjquinn To view the full catalogue of works from Saxon's exhibition, send us a DM or email us at [email protected] #artexhibitions #exhibitionopening #melbourneartists #artsales #urbanart

01.01.2022 SHOWING NOW Jorna NEWBERRY Metro is honored to be showing 'Ngintaka - Perenti', an exhibition of recent works by Pitjantjatjara woman Jorna Newberry (b. 1959). Based in Alice Springs, Jorna paints about her country, referring to its topographical vastness and the rich history of ancestral stories that are embedded in the land. Jorna's paintings speak of the sacred Tjukurrpa of Aboriginal people, passed down through generations via the stories and songs of the old people tha...t travelled across the country. "For tribal people from the desert, their Tjukurrpa is sacrosanct. Tjukurrpa is a paradigm like art or law or science. Tjukurrpa gives order and meaning to Aboriginal society. It explains how Aboriginal people came to be and the details of the spirit ancestors responsible for the creation of everything. For them Tjukurrpa is not a metaphor, it exists". - Ken McGregor, 2021 ___________________________ Jorna NEWBERRY 'Ngintaka-Perentie', 2019 Synthetic polymer on linen 122 x 182 cm $9,500 For all enquiries into Jorna Newberry’s works, send us a DM or email us at [email protected] #jornanewberry #artexhibitions #artsales #indigigenousart #aboriginalart #aborigionalartists #tjukurrpa #perentie
