25.01.2022 ’ , . A common saying in the dog training world and one I never really understood until this guy entered my world. I had wanted a chocolate Border Collie for about 20years. I loved Toby the Wonder Dog as a teenager.... He was what I wanted..... or so I believed at the time. Chocolate Border Collie Facial markings Male Chocolate nose ANKC He’s more than my ‘dream’ dog. In the last 2.5yrs Scout has taught me more than I could have ever thought. Sure we’ve gone on to do things I wanted to do with him and challenge myself in some new sports. BUT... He’s shown me empathy. Empathy for my clients when they are struggling teaching something to their dog. I thought I knew it all, but I only knew a smidgen. He’s challenged me in my own training styles I use. What’s worked for all my other dogs wasn’t working for him. I had to look elsewhere and am now on a wonderful dog training journey. He’s frustrated me to no end. He has tested me not only on the training field but around the house too. He’s taught me all about working breeds. They are way different to my beloved Oodles. His drive and smarts are beyond what I thought was possible. He may have been the dog that I wanted, but really he was the dog that I needed. Have you got the dog that you wanted or the dog that you needed? Let me know in the comments below. Jaydene Chapman - Studio Portrait & Pet Photography

17.01.2022 Why should you train your dog? Owners decide to train their dogs for a variety of reasons. negative experience with previous dog want to be able to take their dog everywhere... dog is going to be big perfect family member The reasons are endless really. Here’s why I think everyone should train their dog: because they are extremely smart, intelligent creatures and without mental stimulation our dogs will get up to ‘mischief’. our dogs do what they do because they can and because we haven’t taught them differently. Swipe across time see more reasons why it’s important to train your dog. If you need help with training your dog, DM me and let’s have a chat. Head to the link in my bio to find out more about how I can help you.

15.01.2022 COMMUNICATING EFFECTIELY WITH YOUR DOG Swipe right to read our tips to help improve the communication with your dog. 1 Have clear marker words. These help your dog understand what exactly is being asked of them. ... 2 Provide clarity to your dog. Be clear with your expectations and what you are after from your dog. How exactly should loose lead walking look for your dog? Can they go from side to side, do they need to be at your leg, can they be slightly infront of you? 3 Learn your dogs way of communicating. Watch their body language and learn to understand how your dog is communicating with you. 4 Play with your dog. Enagge with your dog in a fun way. Watch how dogs play with each other and take note. Find the play style your dog likes. Some like to chase and be chased, others like to play tug, some like to hunt. Change the way you communicate with your dog and watch your dogs behaviour improve. Create a clear language for your dog to understand. Here's the key marker words I use with my dogs: YES = food, toy coming from me NO = oops, try again GOOD DOG = keep doing what you're doing FREE = free to explore FINISHED = training is over with, no more chance to earn anything Criteria for behaviours are also very clear to my dogs. For example: SIT = bottom on ground, square hips (not leaning on a hip), maintain position until released ......... Have any questions, please DM me and I'm happy to help. Want to start your training journey? Head to the link in our bio to check out our amazing online program. We cover puppy training, obedience, loose lead walking and more in The Hub. Happy training everyone!!!

14.01.2022 Getting Chip to follow the food lure. Follow beside me, around in circles, between my legs, backwards, upwards, downwards etc. All of this will help build behaviours eventually.

13.01.2022 Avi is our hero! Harlow and I have been visiting Avi for a while now and each visit we see her kick new goals. Getting stronger every time. Her gentle and caring personality is a delight to be around. We love hanging out with her and her amazing cheer squad. She is one little superstar and I can’t wait to see her smash more goals next year. We you Avi

12.01.2022 We had such fun meeting and hanging out with the kids from The Flourish Collective the other week. Looking forward to seeing them all, and their wonderful leaders, in a few weeks.

11.01.2022 Sometimes you just meet some people in life and you just click. This is one of Scouts bestest friends. They adore each other. Scouts behaviour 100% changes when he’s with his friend. His eyes go all silly, he cuddles up and he looks at his friend like he’s the best thing ever.... He’s so excited to get out of the car, he pulls me up the stairs to his friend and he runs straight to him with his fluffy butt swaying and wobbling from side to side. How lucky are these two to have such a beautiful friendship? One that’s built on unconditional love with no judgement and where you just want to be with each other. @ Darwin, Northern Territory

11.01.2022 Headed to Robin Falls yesterday. The most water I’ve seen down there, heaps of people (and dogs) enjoying the area. Dogs were pooped, as was I. Have you done anything exciting with your dogs over the festive period? @ Robin Falls

09.01.2022 The talk back and the cheating is constant. This is what living with Scout is like . 08.01.2022 Have you considered fostering? Perhaps you’re looking for a dog but not sure if it’ll be the right one for your family. You’re not in the position to own a dog but can offer your home and love temporarily to a dog.... Want your dog to have a friend to play with for a while. There’s so many great reasons to foster. A lot of people think they couldn’t hand the dog over to the new owners, but the best part, you helped that dog out and then you will be helping another dog out. Contact the wonderful ladies at Top End Rehoming Group Inc if you’re able to help.

06.01.2022 MERRY CHRISTMAS Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas. May it be filled with lots of love and joy. Thank you for supporting Mind Your Paws throughout 2020. Harlow, Scout and I have loved visiting and working with each of our clients.... Be safe, take care, and look after each other. Merry Christmas!!! @kelly_judd @ Darwin, Northern Territory

06.01.2022 This is always a fun week in our K9s CARE program. We discuss the difference between a FIXED and GROWTH mindset. We change the fixed mindset statements to growth mindset statements. It’s also where students get to help their canine friend build their growth mindset and confidence. To achieve this students need to work together to help their canine friend to make it a successful outcome.... Dogs + Kids =

04.01.2022 Met little Frankie today. One of the happiest Daschunds I’ve ever met. But that’s the problem, he does as he wants and chooses when to listen. We went over the importance of developing a clear language for him to understand, showing him exactly what criteria we expect of him when asked to do something, interacting with the resident cat appropriately and also helping with crate training.... Was a great session and his Mum is on a much clearer direction now. @ Darwin, Northern Territory

03.01.2022 Wishing all our senior friends all the best as they complete their year 12 exams. Some words of advice for you all: Be calm and relaxed (but not as much as Harlow, perhaps add a splash of Scout and you’ll have the perfect mix), you know your stuff. ... Congratulations for completing your final year at school.

01.01.2022 , . Do you know this feeling? Our dogs can struggle to understand what’s expected of them when out for a few reasons.... Slide across to find out why this can be. The 3Ds of dog training is a principle everyone should follow. It covers: Distance Duration Distraction These 3 components work on a continuous sliding scale and forever moving. Each dogs scale is different depending on the dog itself and the environment and training as well. They are all linked and working at the same time but it’s possible to focus on one component and proof that in the area you are training. Next time you’re out with your dog and wondering why your dog isn’t doing as asked, consider the 3Ds. Can my dog hold their sit command whilst I walk away? Will my dog stay in their drop for 5mins whilst people walk past? Is my dog too close to the distraction? If you’d like to learn more about this and how you can get your dog to listen in new environments join The Hub. The Hub is our online training program and can be accessed from anywhere. Head to the link in our bio to find out more.
