17.01.2022 Vale Ross Peden - A True and Loyal Diorite It takes more than champion players to build a great club, it takes champion people too. Yesterday we farewelled a true champion person and loyal Diorite in Ross Peden who had a long association with the Mines Rovers Football Club. Ross joined the club way back in the 1950’s as a young boy playing in the junior competition. He then progressed through the ranks and played mainly Reserves, and was in fact Vice Captain in the 1966 Res...erves premiership. These were the days when it was just as hard to get a reserves game and the GFL competition was a fierce one, envied throughout WA. When Ross finished playing like all true Diorites, he immediately nominated to join the executive committee and was voted in. Ross was also nominated and voted in as a team selector. Such was the strength of the Diorites at that time that you had to earn the position. It was a very successful era for the club including the 4 in a row premierships in the late sixties. You would of been a brave person back then telling a player they hadn’t been selected to play. In 1971 Ross shifted to Kambalda with his young family for work reasons and he was sort out to join their sub junior committee for their newly formed club. He later also joined the senior committee of Kambalda where some of his good Diorite mates, the great Kennedy brothers were new coaching and playing. We often joked that when Ross left as a selector the club suffered a lean 18 year league premiership spell - unheard of before or since for Diorites! Ross left Kambalda in 1975 to move to Perth, but he kept very strong ties to the club through his many good friends including amongst many the Delbridge, Kennedy and Edmonds families. He was always the first to buy a raffle ticket, come up to attend a reunion or just ring on a Monday to see how the club was going. Strong links like this show that Diorite Blue gets into your veins and we really are a blue and white family and Once a Diorite, Always a Diorite. The club sends its deepest sympathy to dear Monica (Monnie) and Melissa, Mark, Greg and their families. He will be missed by many at the club and we are very saddened we aren’t playing at present and we can’t wear black arm bands to honour him. RIP Ross, a loyal Diorite to the end, you’ll be missed by many.

17.01.2022 Well done Sasha - very proud of you

10.01.2022 Tune into Two Cobbers and a Mic tomorrow for this (you might need a while to listen) One of the better recruiting moves made by the Diorites orchestrated by Jim McIntosh & Brian Osmetti, the day we had these two join the blue and white family. Lots of games, grand finals and premierships along the journey. Along with outstanding service and dedication to the Diorites.

09.01.2022 Great photo of a Mines Team on a footy trip back in 1928, wonder what the footy trips were like back then ?

08.01.2022 Part 1 - of course it needs two parts Jeff Turner and Brett Turner , the number 7 and the number 9 - Two brothers who made the move across from the Tigers to the Blue and Whites who provided many wonderful moments for both clubs and their supporters. A story of exceptional dedication to both clubs and the Goldfields Football League (and North Kalgoorlie Cricket Club). The extraordinary record of lots of premierships won, grand finals played from juniors through to seniors..., league appearances, and service to their clubs. Life memberships, accolades but most of all friendships forged. Players only dream of having a playing career like this but it comes from not just ability but hard work. They would of missed a handful of training sessions whilst playing. Along the way the service, dedication and fellowship of our club cannot be forgotten. Along with their family, the mentoring of young players and players that have made the Diorites their home from coaching, housing, feeding and even clothing them, being there when no one else might of been. There would be many that owe them their thanks. Nothing has ever been too much for them to give. If you cut them open they would as Jimmy McIntosh once described them as bleed blue. Jeff and Brett would say they have been the beneficiaries and received more from the game but we all know that Mines Rovers Football Club and the Goldfields Football league are richer for having had players of the calibre, on and off the field as the Turner brothers and their family. Part of the Blue and White family, journey, history and wonderful role models. Thanks to Ian Dunstan (Scooter) and Greg Cobber Rogers from Two Cobbers and a Mic for recording this as part of the history and story of our club. Not a bad couple of recruits after all #blueabdwhitearmy #dioritearmy #madetough #blueabdwhitefamily #wemarchasone #turnerbrothers

04.01.2022 Deepest Sympathy to all the Lee family on the passing of our former player Maurie, a great player in the 1960’s era with a booming left kick. He was a fantastic servant to football at Mines, Boulder & Kambalda as a player, coach, committee person and volunteer. He tied for the GFL league fairest & best whilst at Boulder and lost on a count back but was also Kambalda’s last premiership coach in 1985. His legacy lived on through his sons Paul & Brett and Brett whilst playing... at the Diorites was a two time Mines league fairest & best winner in 1987 & 1988 as well as the Mitchell Medallist whilst playing at Kambalda in 1990. So many people at our club and in the league have good memories of Maurie, as a fantastic player but just a brilliant bloke - a good football person. Our thoughts are with Eileen, Paul, Brett, Linda and families. RIP Maurie.

03.01.2022 Anzac Day round is still on as per the WAFC statement below. Please follow the GFL guidelines listed and if you feel unwell stay at home

02.01.2022 Well done Abbey Dowrick!! Good luck from everyone at Mines

01.01.2022 Well done to all our players playing elsewhere today who are into their league grand finals next weekend. Marc Johnstone and his Diorites crew playing for Southern Cross held off a fast finishing Kulin Kondinin to take the win by 5 points after scores were level with 5 minutes to go - no pressure next week Johnno to keep that winning grand final record in tact ... Whilst in Esperance, Ports with our lone Diorite playing Trent Mais also got up over our mates at Gibson (we lov...e all the Esperance neighbours!) Good luck to everyone next weekend, everyone in your Diorites family will be cheering! Once a Diorite Always a Diorite #dioritefamily #blueandwhitefamily (with a bit of red this year )
