24.01.2022 Saturday Morning Practice As a movement and rehab professional I feel it imports to role model what I teach my clients. I certainly don’t expect everyone to do what I do, but I do expect they try, have a go, and build the habits and practices necessary for health... Talk the Talk, walk the Walk To have a daily practice allows me to appreciate the time, dedication and patience it really takes to biuld a healthy resilient body that can do what you want and need it too So what do folks need? At a base level there are 3 fundamental areas that should be developed 1. Movement 2. Breath 3. Meditation Each of these areas moulds the other. A purely physical practice will develop a strong body, but lack emotional or mental balance A meditation practice in its own will fine tune the mind and emotions, but the inner spirit that comes from physical challenge will be lacking A breath practice in its own is awesome, but unless breath is put into practice what is it’s purpose As your skills in movement, breath and meditation improve you can start to integrate all three The Kettlebell Workout invokes intense focus and breath control The Yoga Class invokes intense ficus and breath control The Spin Bike session invokes intense focus and breath control However, each area should be practiced individually first, to fully understand each parts role in the whole Break it down Practice it Understand it Do it After 25 years of practice I am still learning, still trying, showing up each day to the mat, gym or cycle studio to sharpen my sword as it were Stay focused people Work on the skills of exercise and focus on bounding habits, the rest will sort itself out Drew

20.01.2022 Hi guys I had. a few folks reach out to see if I had any in my Drew Style Pilates slash yoga classes to do at home. So I filmed one the other week, and had some good feedback, so thought I’d offer it for anyone looking for a follow along style class ... If you’d like to purchase the first class to watch at home drop me a message and I’ll give you all the info ect It’s $25, goes for an hour, and you’ll get a link to watch / download it The class is based on about 20 years of experience of what Pilates + Yoga exercises work really well together for happy and healthy spines. In particularly for all my nursing / shift working friends who find it tricky to juggle times thus gives you flexibility to fit it in your schedule + stress a great fit ‘Nurses Back’ Reach out for any questions Cheers Drew
19.01.2022 Some Faisal nerd sceince for my yin yoga friends Type 1 collagen is found in the dermis of the skin, bone, tendons, fascia, and joint capsules They are pretty darn strong with high tensile strength around 500-1000 kg/cm2... Collagen fibers are flexible with high tensile strength....string and flexible is best They are made up of small subunits called collagen fibrills with each one of these made up of collagen molecules that are aligned head to tail and overlap. Collagen fibre turnover is usually about 300 - 500 days and us thought to be stimulated by stretching fibroblasts cause secretion of collangenase, an enzyme that plays an important role in the degradation of collagen fibers The facial meridians consists of collagen fibers interconnecting in a certain alignment that absorbs and distributed forces along the line of fibre orientation Translation for Yin yoga Fascia is everywhere in your body The stuff we ‘stretch’ is bloody strong...your not going to tear anything in a yin pose It take about a year to make physical changes to the fascia itself...patience and persistence To create the growth we need to stimulate destruction....the birth - life cycle The fasia follows the yin lines or meridians loosely...there’s no need for precision of position as it were , rather mindfulness and ‘feel’ Cheers Drew
17.01.2022 Chinese Medicine dates back 5000 years, I’d say there is some knowledge and experience accumulated over the centuries which we may find useful today One thing we know is the body absolutely craves movement to feel good The type of movement really didn’t matter, it could be yoga, TaiChi, walking, running, CrossFit, Kungfu or lawn bowls... As long as the movement you chose to do is appropriate for where you are at. Move daily Move intentionally Move well
17.01.2022 Interested in becoming a Yoga Teacher? Well, this September Ill be presenting in all things Anatomy Physiology and the Science of yoga this September with these two amazing Yoga Teachers who really embody the practice. As I told Clare when she asked me if I was available to teach in September "Teaching Yoga Science is my Jam"... In particular in th modules i teach you will learn Asana Mechanics, the whats and hows of movement from a yogi - exercise physiology perspective Pranayama and Breath work - how the ancient yogi breathing techniques are the gateway to regulating your stress response, increasing your energy levels, and turning on your system. Mediation - How do the 8 Limbs of yoga step 4-5-6-7-8 correspond to our understanding of the brain through the discovers of neuroscience. And how does this understanding of the mind translate to the actual practice of mediation you'll probably get a smidgen of Chinese Medicine, fascia science and quantum biology thrown in there as well....so much to learn...so much fun in practicing it. look forward to seeing our future yogis in September, if you ave any question please reach out. cheers drew
16.01.2022 Nurture Your Health In western culture there is a tendency for folks to outsource their health responsibilities. It’s up to the doctor / physio / surgeon / psych (insert health practitioner) to ‘fix’ me!... The hard truth in a society stricken by chronic illness and disease is that 90% of these health conditions are self inflicted. Poor diet Poor exercise Too much sitting Way too much stress Environmental stress Lack of connection, drive, purpose The way to life long health is to take a very close look at the daily habits that contribute to your health. Work on these and slowly, with the guidance and support of above mentioned health practitioners you can change how you feel More energy Improved mental health Metabolic robust Thirst for life You must take responsibility for your choices, and shift the dual toward positive habits that Nuture your mind, body and spirit You can do it You are not ‘broken’ You’ve just had the wrong tools, or incorrect information Change is possible Start today Be kind to yourself and do one thing that moves the dial....and then do it again tomorrow
16.01.2022 Want a snap shot into how I train personally....after 20+ years working in the health, fitness and rehab world I believe this is an ideal combination Yoga- check Functional Fitness - check... Breathwork - check
15.01.2022 It’s been been very interesting watching what’s been happening over last 2 months as everyone adapts to current COVD situation I’ve seen everything from crazy conspiracies theories (David Icke) the cult of technocracy to Harvard Professors (David Sinclair) very serious species threatening piece. It’s all rather confusing isn’t it... And that’s because it’s all rather new...fit first couple months no one really had any idea what was happening The scientists simply didn’t have enough data and inputs The governments are reliant on the advice from the scientists So they tend to err on side of caution....a reasonable response But now we are starting to get more information and it is prudent to reevaluate the current course It’s good to see some common sense discussion around social isolation protocols. Some very interesting points raised here around the efficacy of the current recommendations. Why is it I can go to Kmart, or Bunnings, Coles or Safeway...and shop ect, yet so many business are forced to close ect....or why can’t folks exercise outdoors, it’s pretty easy to keep your distance when going for a jog or a pedal on a bike! Particularly when we understand the transmission process ect, efficacy of masks, anti bacterial soaps, and how the immune system works ect I’m not an immunologist, but these guys are, experts, and what they are saying makes a lot of sense to me. What makes no sense, particularly as the data is being gathered which suggests, the lockdown, self isolation has been potentially a huge over reaction....yes, potentially prudent initially, but should it continue? Have a watch Lots of things to consider How do you build a robust immune system What are the secondary health effects on isolating people What are the secondary health effects on the medical system as a whole What’s the benefit / risk ratio of confine to work ect What’s the economic fallout Should schools reopen Are sporting events essential Is there other things at play going on. I think I need more caffeine https://youtu.be/xfLVxx_lBLU
13.01.2022 Today’s Practice Up early before sunrise to start my seated qigong Xu Sui Gong (Bone Marrow Cleanse). This is a series of seated qigong meditations with stretching what develops posture, breath qi and regulates the autonomic nervous system. It’s a centuries old practice from Shaolin and it feels amazing, but takes a long time to learn... he just I’m still very much in early stages of pts rice myself After an hour of seated pra rice it’s time to walk the dogs, light cardio tra...ining in nature, great for the heart lung systems as well as regulating the parasympathetic Then a coffee with my baby ... and we do the kettlebell strength training Strength training is very much an overlooked aspect of physical and mental develop for those it’s giving Tai chi, Qigong and Yoga...which are mote yin, or gentle in nature To follow the principles of the Tao, we want balance between yin and yang, hence I always include yin style training like yoga, TaiChi or qigong, with more yang based strength and higher intensity cardio training like a spin class The thing that links yin and yang training is Breathwork, it’s extremely important to practice, and in my opinion is the most overlooked and underrated aspects of practice Move - Breath - Sweat
