19.01.2022 Wow! What an incredible weekend we had! Thank-you to all of you who made the trip out to spend time at Mt Cathedral Vineyards. It was great to have you there and we really enjoyed seeing you and your family or group enjoying the special place that we stumbled on and fell in love with 23 years ago. The air, the setting, the endless views down the Acheron valley and the glorious backdrop of the Cathedral Range. Saturday was a pearler! 29C and the bluest of blue skies you would... ever see. We had a fantastic turnout and it was a great atmosphere. Then, we knew it was coming. We worked overnight to put a spray on and protect our baby grapes against a barrage of a storm which hit us in the early hours of Sunday morning. The bomb-like sounds of the thunder-claps overnight were like nothing we had ever heard before! Then, we awoke to a beautiful clearing morning sky and were yet again able to host another wonderful group of people on the Sunday to the tune of what turned out to be quite a nice day. Thanks to everyone for coming and enjoying our wines. We had so much positive feedback about our wines and how we produce them and that makes us feel good about all the hard work we have put in over so many years. 18.01.2022 Mount Cathedral Vineyards 25th ANNIVERSARY SALE Mount Cathedral Vineyards is this year celebrating our 25th Anniversary and to celebrate we are offering HUGE discounts on our wines. August was the month that we actually started work on Mount Cathedral Vineyards 25 years ago in 1995. We had scoured the hillsides to the north of the Great Dividing Range looking for a sloping site with a northerly aspect and this was the first property we had visited. We were amazed by the beau...ty of the site and after further climatological research and soil testing decided that this was to be the one. We planned and mapped out the vineyard and began the first plantings in October that year. 10 rows of Merlot and 3 rows of Chardonnay. In 1996 we planted the rest of the vines including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and more Merlot and Chardonnay. 100 rows of vines in total. 1996 also saw our first major struggle, drought. We had to replant 70% of our vines in 1996 and 1997 which were shrivelled by the searing summer days above 40C in the summers of 1997 and 1998. But we persevered and produced our first commercial vintage in 2000. We have had many great vintages since then as well as some total losses such as in the Black Saturday bushfire of 1998 and the deer and bird disaster which was 2020. Let alone other events of 2020!! Let's not mention the name!!!
