23.01.2022 An ALERT has been issued for Thunderstorm Asthma across MLHD. While the official start to the danger period is not due to commence until Monday a forecast of thunderstorms possible across most of New South Wales on Saturday has prompted an Alert. Current high pollen counts and the predicted thunderstorms can increase the risk of asthma. People who are known to suffer from asthma should carry their asthma puffer with them at all times and try to stay indoors with the windows ...and doors closed during the storm period. If you have breathing difficulties call 000 or go to your nearest hospital Emergency Department. To receive an SMS alert when the pollen counts are high and thunderstorms are predicted, go to; https://science.csu.edu.au/asthma and register for alerts.

21.01.2022 We're urging parents and carers to keep young children at home if they are sick amid a rise in gastro cases. Director of Public Health, Tracey Oakman, said the warning has been prompted by notifications of several outbreaks of gastroenteritis at childcare centres and an increase in number of gastro presentations to Emergency at Griffith Base Hospital. Ms Oakman said gastro was often spread by direct contact with an infected person. Viral gastroenteritis is usually caused by n...orovirus or rotavirus. The best defence is to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and running water for at least 10 seconds before handling and eating food, and always wash your hands after using the toilet, changing nappies or assisting someone who has diarrhoea or vomiting. Infants or children in childcare or school who develop vomiting or diarrhoea should stay at home for at least 48 hours after their symptoms have stopped, Ms Oakman said. People whose work involves handling food or looking after children, the elderly or patients, should not return to work until 48 hours after symptoms have stopped to avoid spread of infection. Anyone not involved in these occupations should stay home for at least 24 hours. You can find out more at: https://bit.ly/3cISu7N

08.01.2022 A big THANK YOU to all who have responded to the MLHD survey link they received after having a COVID-19 test in our District. The valuable information you have provided has allowed us to improve the testing service. Some of the feedback included that we needed to provide more information, quicker test results, shelter from the elements and better seating arrangements for those waiting to be tested.... You shared your experience and we made the changes. But we aren’t resting on our laurels. We’re started sending out the next round of survey invitations to see if we need to improve on any further areas and to make sure what we have done has made a difference. So if you’ve had a COVID-19 test at any of our testing facilities and you receive a text message to your mobile asking you to participate we’d love you to tell us how we’ve done. Thanks again for helping us deliver what’s important to you!
