23.01.2022 Dr Arratta arrived in Muttaburra 1925. The operating theatre built in 1933 to Dr Arratta’s specifications is the oldest part of the original Hospital complex. The main hospital was rebuilt in 1957 & with learnt knowledge of infection control, a scrubs room was added - the surgery itself remained unchanged. Before electricity came to Muttaburra by way of generators, surgeries were scheduled during the day, however if emergency night procedures had to be performed the town folk were rallied to bring their cars up to shine in the windows to provide light for the operating team. Very much a community collaborative affair with many lives saved in this room.

23.01.2022 Muttaburra and District Hospital was established in 1884, closed 1989 and became a museum 1993. The establishment was renamed Dr Arratta Memorial Museum in honour of Dr Joseph Arratta who came to Muttaburra in 1925 as a 25yr old and practised here until 1960 - longest serving Doctor in the district. Beautifully preserved presentation of extensive equipment from during its time of operation. Now also including a local history room dedicated to Muttaburra’s early pastoral & town businesses. 21.01.2022 Dr On The Landsborough - The memoirs of Dr Joseph Arratta who arrived in Muttaburra 1925 as a 25 yr old General Practitioner with a dispensing license. The Doctor that he became is the ‘stuff’ of legends!! His memories reveal the many challenges he faced & overcame, the adventures he had & the characters that made his work so interesting & rewarding. The improvisation that had to be utilised during a time when you had to ‘make-do’ with whatever was on hand provides the re...ader with an extraordinary insight into life in Central Western Qld before & after the advent of electricity through the eyes of a medical professional. 18.01.2022 Cassimatis cottage - built in the early 1900’s, formerly owned by Claudis Augusta (Gus) Dickson - drover & purchased by George & Stavroola Cassimatis 1934 with their two young daughters Anna & Florrie. This little cottage full of so much charming character was home to Andrew, George Jnr & another daughter Mary until it was purchased by the then Aramac Shire Council in 1998. In summer when it was too hot to sleep in this little corrugated wall cottage the family would bunk out under the stars between their store & their home. Being of Greek heritage that wood stove cooked many meals whatever the season was!

15.01.2022 A.A. Cassimatis Store & Cottage Museum encapsulates a working business & cottage environment from during the early 1900’s. The store was established by Andrew Andrew Cassimatis with his son George in 1918 after coming to Australia from Greece in 1911. The shop closed it’s doors in 1978 with George Cassimatis as it’s proprietor - after trading as an emporium, haberdashery, cafe, green grocer, cordial factory, ice works, liquor store & motor mechanical workshop. A very comprehensive collection of many beautifully preserved original artefacts & equipment from that era.

15.01.2022 Our brand new shed that sits behind Cassimatis Store & Cottage, Bruford Street, with special thanks to Gambling Community Benefit Fund for enabling it to happen for us!! The fun now starts for interior planning & fit out to house our wooden implements/items from deteriorating in the elements........

02.01.2022 Bought by Andrew Andrew Cassimatis with the purchase of Klugh & Samuels Emporium in 1934. This original grand old cash register still holds pride of place in the Cassimatis Store - now museum, in Bruford St, Muttaburra.
