25.01.2022 Its been such a busy week in the clinic! Last Friday we enjoyed a celebratory lunch with all the clinic staff for the ‘bride to be’ Rachel before she ties the knot this Saturday with her fiancée Daniel! Rachel will be enjoying a well earned rest, honeymooning around Europe for the next four weeks. We wish her well on her special day and look forward to welcoming her back in mid November with updated business cards sporting her new surname! We have a wonderful new Podiatrist... on our team- Stephanie Melitsis who will be covering Rachels leave. If you normally see Rachel and have an upcoming appointment, it will be the lovely and professional Steph taking care of you. Steph comes with a wealth of experience across all facets of Podiatry, and like Rachel and Jessica, she also works part time in the public health sector. We have a new website in the pipeline and we are also busy preparing for National Foot Health week which starts next week! Stay tuned for lots more updates over the coming weeks!

25.01.2022 Tomorrow is an exciting day in Melbourne as we head into the Second Step in Victoria’s Covid Road Map. Allied Health services are not quite at the ‘business as usual’ stage with the updated DHHS guidelines as we still need to be reducing movement in the community. The previous key term of appointment eligibility was Urgent, the new key term is now Deterioration. As of September 28th as directed by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) patients are able to ...receive treatment: 1. To prevent a significant deterioration in functional independence which would result in an escalation of care needs: such as increased frequency in treatment, significant increase in pain, specialist input or substantial increase in recovery time as a result of delayed care. 2. For assessment and diagnostic purposes for those people whose care has been delayed during stage 4 restrictions, and where further delay is likely to result in deterioration 3. To provide essential pre-operative or post-operative surgery care. We appreciate there is a lot of technical terminology in the statement above that can be confusing. To help you determine your treatment eligibility, our team will continue to contact and screen all patients prior to you attending your appointment via phone. If you would like to make a booking and are unsure if you fall under current changes, please feel free to contact the clinic on 03 93231589 to discuss. MVFAC will continue to act in accordance with our COVIDSafe Plan and we will keep you updated as DHHS alter guidelines as the Covid Road Map progresses through future steps.
24.01.2022 Jessica is back in the clinic today after 3 days in Brisbane for Diabetic Foot Australia 2019 Conference. Attending these professional development opportunities mean we can bring the latest evidence based practice, technology and knowledge back to where it means most: with our patients.
24.01.2022 Often people think working in an office exempts them from foot and lower limb injuries and overlook the risks of unsupportive footwear. Unfortunately feet can be injured even during simple, day-to-day activities such as walking through an office. Common foot problems include: corn and calluses; foot pain; skin and nail issues; bunions and misshapen toes. If these sound a bit too familiar, come see us this #foothealthmonth and "Walk Well, Work Well". CALL US ON 9323 1589
24.01.2022 A great read from our friends at Bobux!
24.01.2022 Thank you so much for your patience over the last six weeks while Jess recovered from an ankle injury and then surgery. Her cast came off today and she will be back at work tomorrow! Big thank you to Rachel for working extra hard to see many of Jess' patients during this time. Its fair to say that Jess has learnt first hand what its like to be a patient and the challenges that come with managing an injury. We are looking forward to the practice getting back to normal and fixing all those winter feet problems! Yay to Spring!
24.01.2022 Principal Podiatrist Jessica recently spoke to KidSpot about the importance of correctly fitted school shoes! Our clinic reopens on 11 January 2018 for any concerns you may have with your childs feet or shoes before school starts back. You can book online via our website!
23.01.2022 We aren't denying the Prince George looked super cute on his first day of school- but as foot health professionals we would advise against purchasing this style of shoe for your kids to wear to school on a daily basis. Laces, velcro or a buckle fixation would be much more appropriate; reducing the amount of work the foot has to do to keep the shoe on! And certainly safer for running around playing at lunch time! There are many other important features of shoes that we can d...iscuss with you based on your child's needs. We encourage parents to bring children's school shoes and runners along to help us complete a thorough assessment. With school holidays fast approaching, don't leave it too late to book the kids in for a check up
23.01.2022 We are excited to now offer an ONLINE BOOKING system for new and existing patients via our website www.mooneevalleypodiatrist.com.au However, if you prefer to speak with us directly, please do not hesitate to call us: 93231589

22.01.2022 Its just not our week here at MVFAC- not only is our landline down (thanks #OPTUS!!) but now our website is playing up! 19.01.2022 Big thanks for our superstar Podiatrist Rachel for running the clinic over the last week while I have been volunteering in Arnhem Land, NT. It was a very rewarding week for me, learning so much about remote health care and indigenous culture & history. I witnessed lots of different foot problems which I wouldnt normally see in Essendon such as a stingray barb laceration on the foot, an oyster shell embedded in another boys foot, joint pain secondary to rheumatic fever and the list goes on....! Ill be driving to the clinic tomorrow unlike a tiny aeroplane like last week! - Jessica

17.01.2022 The Podiatrists at MVFAC have a super busy day ahead of them tomorrow. Rachel is fully booked in the clinic from 9am- 1pm, whilst Jessica is attending two very different conferences. The morning will see her supporting her sister Lauren as she launches her first ever large scale Wellness Conference which has more of an Eastern Medicine vibe to it. In the afternoon, Jessica is using her Diabetes Foot Care knowledge and presenting at the Primary Care Diabetes Society of Australia's Inaugural Conference to be held at the University of Melbourne- which is very much Western Medicine. The big question on our mind is... If we could find a better balance between Eastern and Western Medicine principles may be there would be improved health outcomes for our community?!?

13.01.2022 National Amputee Awareness Week, 4 11 October 2020, is a chance to ‘Shine a Light’ on the number of people in Australia with limb loss and remind all amputees... that they are not alone. This is a week dedicated to celebrating Australians living with limb loss, raising awareness of this lifelong disability, reducing the stigma that amputees can face, and sharing limb loss prevention information. There is one amputation performed every hour in Australia, which equates to 24 people per day and almost 8,500 people per year, due to diabetes, cancer, vascular disease, infection and traumatic accidents. The limb loss community in Australia, made up of adults and children, is growing every year. This year many buildings and landmarks across Australia are being lit up in green to shine a light on amputation and limb loss in this country. Head out to one of the locations listed here https://www.limbs4life.org.au//shining-a-light-on-australi Limbs 4 Life Australia #ShineALightOnAmputees

12.01.2022 Diabetes is just one of the many chronic health conditions that MVFAC Podiatrists help our patients manage on a daily basis- the scary thing is as many as 500,000 Australians may be living with undiagnosed Diabetes. This week we are encouraging all our patients, friends and family to take the AUSDRISK test which only takes a couple of minutes. You can use the interactive tool here: http://www.health.gov.au//Conte/diabetesRiskAssessmentTool Many people with type 2 diabetes w...ill live with the condition for up to 7 years before it is diagnosed. By the time they are diagnosed, half of all people will have already developed at least one serious diabetes-related complication such as vision loss, lower limb amputation or kidney damage. Our principal Podiatrist, Jessica Johnston has done post graduate studies in the field of Diabetes Education and can offer further assistance in completing this screening tool during one of your appointments. #itsabouttime #NDW2017 #diabetesaustralia

06.01.2022 Its been a busy few days at MVFAC HQ preparing care packages for 50 of our loyal, elderly patients that may be feeling quite isolated during this lockdown. We have worked with some very generous businesses to help put these together. Thankyou to Briggate Medical Company for the discounted Aqium Hand Sanitiser, SNAP Printing Essendon for the gift bag labels, fisiocrem Australia for the topical gel samples and Plunketts for the heel balm samples. (Masks have come from our own ...stock). It couldnt all be clinical, so we sourced some delicious locally owned and manufactured chocolate packs from Rocky Road Chocolates in Airport West. Our contactless delivery will now be fast tracked given Dan Andrews annoucement this morning where by everyone in Melbourne & Mitchell Shire are required to wear a mask in the community from midnight Wednesday or face a $200 fine. We hope this may help bring a smile to these 50 loyal patients that are missing all their usual social outings, friends and family and that they know we are here to support them, from foot health right through to social & emotional health. We are all in this together Jessica Johnston
06.01.2022 Late last week, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) confirmed that during Stage 4 restrictions in Melbourne, Allied Health services must only provide face to face care to patients at risk of significant clinical deterioration if the appointment did not proceed. E.g. a hospital admission/emergency department presentation. We are currently in the process of contacting all our patients who have appointments booked in the next 6 weeks. ... For majority of our patients, this means your appointment will be rescheduled once the restrictions are lifted, or we may suggest a telehealth appointment, depending on your case that we assess using our clinical judgement and triage tools. We are using this opportunity to check in on our patients during this tough time, so if you have not yet heard from us, we will be in touch very soon. We strongly encourage you to call us if your condition changes throughout the next 6 weeks. If you are concerned you may have an infection, injury, ulcer or fracture (just to name a few!) we DO NOT want to you wait until Stage 4 is over. PLEASE contact us and we will discuss over the telephone the best way to proceed. We are here for you, your foot health and anything else we can help with during this time! Jessica Johnston

So many important take home messages we can implement in the clinic on Monday!
01.01.2022 Podiatrists Rachel and Jessica are out with the entire Eastbrooke team tonight celebrating our practice nurse Cathy's retirement.
