17.01.2022 Over 4.4 million people in Australia have some form of disability. That's 1 in 5 people. As a society inclusion is about providing each and every citizen with t...he same rights and opportunities as the rest. The Conventions of the Rights of Peoples with Disabilities follows the decades of work by the United Nations to change attitudes and approaches to persons with disabilities. Australia has adopted this in policies however children like Sam still face this injustice. Share this story, share your story, be the voice for change. 16.01.2022 Some news for all our peeps in Victoria (but everyone else please check it out too) ... The NDIS have updated their website this afternoon and released a new in...formation pack for families of school aged children with disability. The pack confirms that families can use their funds for additional support at home while schools and services are closed. It provides some suggestions and case studies about how families can use existing funds in different ways to support their child during lockdown. We know not everyone's funds will stretch that far. In that case the only option is to seek a review (yep ... we know). And while this pack is intended for families with children, a lot of the info is very relevant for all NDIS participants - regardless of their age. So it's worth checking out. You can find the info pack here - https://www.ndis.gov.au/coronavirus/information-packs We have also heard that more info will be released early next week - so stay tuned. We will let you know when it lands. And just in case you missed anything, we are constantly updating our website with all the latest info for Victorians - https://everyaustraliancounts.com.au/new-coronavirus-rules/ This is a really tough time. Please look after yourselves - and others. (Image description: The front cover of the NDIS information pack. The front cover is purple with white text. The text reads: "NDIS COVID19 Information Pack. Victoria: Information for families and carers of school aged NDIS participants)

13.01.2022 This week the 400,000th participant joined the NDIS. More than 150,000 of those participants are receiving supports for the very first time. Importantly this... shows the NDIS continues to grow and support Australians during the COVID-19 pandemic. We will continue to support eligible Australians with a disability so they can live the life they want, with independence and be part of a more inclusive Australia.

13.01.2022 We're so excited to share a 'built for fun' beach, bush and off-road wheelchair invention being worked on by David & Murray! It turns out that most Austra...lian families with a #wheelchair user miss out on fun stuff like going to the beach or just into the bush, because the NDIS classifies these as 'non-essential' activities and therefore rejects more than 80% of all funding applications. As the father of a wheelchair user, David thought this wasn't really good enough, so he's spent the past few years redesigning the wheelchair from the ground up, with a first product ready to roll for Summer, covered via the #NDIS Automatic Sign off limits. They're looking for some adults and young wheelchair users, who may have never had access to the beach, to help get some photos and media ahead of the launch intended for November. They are happy to pay and/or ensure your kids are some of the first in the world to get access to a chair if they like. They just need photos of it being used, so people can see how fun it is! To help with photos and keep up to date, share your info with... https://www.tangibleworkshop.com/
