23.01.2022 Making a feature of Mend and Make Do :)

23.01.2022 Who needs the gym? :P

22.01.2022 Ladybirds! :D they really do look like something out of the Alien movies when they're first born, but these little "aliens" are veracious eaters, and love nothing more than to chow down on some yummy aphids!

22.01.2022 I was going to hose off this poor kale to rid it of some of the white fly and caterpillars, but then I spotted these little guys! Lady beetle larvae! Dozens of them - there are 6 just in this picture alone! :D yay! So this poor kale may not be any good in the kitchen but it's sure is doing a great job as a nursery for good bugs! :D

21.01.2022 Rosemary is a staple in our garden. I remember my Nan always running her hands thru it as she walked passed. It's also one of the hardiest herbs. It's great to know more uses for it!

21.01.2022 What a great idea!! https://youtu.be/AF3C2IP-GyQ

20.01.2022 "What more do you need?" :)

20.01.2022 This is a great idea for small spaces and poor soil. In our climate though, coming into summer, I'd recommend putting in a place where it's shaded from the harsh afternoon sun. Happy gardening! :)

20.01.2022 Great article about roosters. I personally love the sound of a rooster - and believe me, if you'd ever heard a hen trying to do the same job, you'd prefer it too (think nails-down-a-chalkboard at 5am). Having a male around to do his jobs would certainly make the flock a lot more settled; the ladies could focus on their jobs rather than covering for a non-existent male. And as it happens, we too, are eagerly awaiting the gender-confirmation of our latest clutch, this time 3x... auracanas and 2x mille fleur's. Honey, our little old english game has been such a good mum. But as much as I would love a roo, at this stage, fingers crossed for girls. https://mobile.abc.net.au//roosters-the-unwanted/11724796

19.01.2022 Not at all sure if this will come to Brisbane, but worth keeping an eye out for.

19.01.2022 Has anyone tried these?

18.01.2022 Any budding beekeepers out there?

18.01.2022 70ml in the gauge from this week! YAY!! The little longans and lychees are showing their appreciation :)

17.01.2022 The good kind of contagious, for your Sunday morning. #permacultureillustrator #hope #permaculture

17.01.2022 We had 27mm of lovely drenching rain yesterday! :D

16.01.2022 Definitely support this philosophy! :D

16.01.2022 Yay! Lovely rain here today! Even more happy that I managed to get this year's chillies potted out before the rain :)

13.01.2022 Great that this technology has finally been developed. Disappointing that they couldn't do it here in Australia.

13.01.2022 Hoping everyone had a great day and received a little of this wonderful wet stuff from the sky! What a great Christmas present: 25mm! It was lovely and cool too. AND my dragon fruit has opened! Yay! :D

13.01.2022 These are all great suggestions for anyone looking for an easy-care, attractive garden addition. I would, however, NOT recommend planting anything in this heat; wait until May, when it starts to cool a little. The lower temps will be less stressful on the plant and evaporation rates will be much lower; giving you a much higher chance of your investment not dying on you. Planting in the cooler months will also give the plant a few months to get it's roots down before the warme...r weather kicks in again. On top of this, I would also suggest you follow Jerry Colby-Williams's recommended watering schedule for natives by watering twice/week for the first few weeks, then once/week for a few weeks, then once/fortnight for a month or so, then once a month for a few months, then stop. By doing this you are effectively weaning the plant off the excessive amount of watering it gets at the nursery and allowing it to become adapted to your garden and natural rainfall. Obviously don't just abandon them, keep an eye on them, particularly during their first summer, and if it has been hot and hasn't rained for a while (like now), I'd start watering again once a week just to tide them over, using wetting agent if necessary (the hose-on packs are great but make sure you check the water restrictions for your area). Happy gardening! :D

12.01.2022 One proud female farmer here! :) And I wouldn't have it any other way.

12.01.2022 Even if you won't use these herbs medicinally, they are great for the bees, your chickens/poultry, they're easy-care (many are "weeds" and will grow entirely without your help) and they just look pretty :)

11.01.2022 Woohoo!! Go Mexico!!

11.01.2022 Everyone is trying to 'do the right thing' and reduce the use of plastics, especially in packaging, but choosing the best replacement is a lot more complex than you would think. Fascinating article.

11.01.2022 Love our little bee-bees :D

09.01.2022 What a great concept!

03.01.2022 Interesting article about warm climate gardening.

03.01.2022 Might have to try this; I'm notoriously bad at germination.

02.01.2022 A great idea to save for summer :)

02.01.2022 It's been a while since I've shared a DIY recipe, but I think I'm going to have to give this a go - I'm so sick of purchased deodorants, even "natural" ones, giving me armpit rash :(

01.01.2022 Happy New Year, everyone!
