23.01.2022 New student free days added to Term 4! In recognition of the outstanding efforts of school staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, the last two days of the school year, Thursday 10 and Friday 11 December, have been declared student free days. Our school will be closed on these days. View the updated school calendar at https://education.qld.gov.au/about-us/calendar/term-dates.

23.01.2022 On Tuesday 15th September, we celebrated Dots Day. It was a day to celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of braille for many students in our school. Students and staff had the opportunity to participate in three activities a Perkins braille machine exploring and writing activity, a braille cell activity, and reading activity with tactile kits borrowed from the Alternative Format Library. Chaeyon and Dominic also created sticky braille labels for each staff member to put onto their name badges.

22.01.2022 For those who don’t know me, I am Hailey and I work for Link Vision as an Educator Mentor. For the past 3 years I have had the honour of bringing the computer club program which is based at various schools around Brisbane and the Gold Coast to Narbethong, providing one on one support to students. This gives students the opportunity to embrace the wonders of technology through learning how to use iPads using voice-over and also how to touch type on computers. As I am a Braille... user myself, I also have the opportunity to assist students in understanding Braille to support them in reading and writing independently. Coming to such a happy place two days a week gives me the honour of working with students and providing the much needed one on one support to this lovely bunch who are just a few of many I support. We also have lots of fun along the way! Walking the journey with these students, watching them grow not only in education but as unique individuals, I am blessed to share with them that there are no limits in life, as I am an adult who just happens to be blind as well. Thank you staff, students and parents of Narby, for making this school such a joy to share a connection with.

20.01.2022 Great news! More parking for drop off and pick up! Coorparoo Ward Office have been working with us to improve parking around the school for families. The outdated taxi signs have been removed from Churchill Street, so families and carers are able to use these parking spaces to access the pedestrian gate or the bus/taxi turn around area. There will also be changes to Salisbury Street out the front of the school. Watch this space!!!

19.01.2022 REMINDER: Dots Day tomorrow Tuesday 15 September. Don’t forget to wear spots/dots and get ready to celebrate all things Braille

18.01.2022 The weather was kind for our re-scheduled cross country event held today. It was a fantastic atmosphere with students and staff all dressed and decorated in their house colours. Two students led the teams in very loud war cries - Milli for Lilli and Dominic for Louis. The team spirit continued throughout the event and everyone cheered each other over the finish line. The circle room and star room students all crossed the finish line together in a show of class spirit too. 03.01.2022 Last week the younger members of our school community got together to celebrate Under 8"s Week with a Toys and Teddies Picnic. We played musical dots, the freeze game and pass the parcel. 03.01.2022 Today we received some exciting news from the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO). As part of a statewide project, the QSO have been asking for nominations for schools to provide a private concert. Narbethong was nominated (by a passionate ex-teacher and carer of the Narbethong community Wendy Alexander) and has been selected as one of the four schools across Queensland to receive the very special performance.... We are so very appreciative for this opportunity and are looking forward to the performance.

02.01.2022 We have just kicked off our Buddy Reading program and our first session was a huge success. Thank you to our senior student Chaeyon for visiting our Prep/Year 1 class to read a lunchtime story. Cambria loved listening to the story and feeling the tactile pictures. She was so impressed with how well you read braille Chaeyon. We can’t wait for the next story! One of Chaeyon’s goals for this session is to read fully contracted braille aloud to a Junior student. Cambria’s goals for this session are to attend during storytelling and show anticipation when listening to familiar texts.

01.01.2022 It is with great pride and pleasure that we announce the new Principal of Narbethong - Kerry Tait. Congratulations Kerry! Narbethong is in very capable and competent hands with Kerry leading our community.
