04.01.2022 Poor little pony with a very large dental abscess... so we usually are posting about how dental problems take a long time to develop and the signs are never obv...ious - well in this case, this little 5yo miniature Shetland developed an infection rapidly - his owner noted he was off colour and noted some swelling forming on his left cheek - called her vet who took x-rays, who promptly referred him to us - goes to show that young teeth, when they get infected (possibly from a kick or wound in this case) the infection can develop very rapidly - pulp canals inside young teeth (in this case the lower 5th cheek tooth, 310) are long and large and when get infected can set up major infection - well done to his owner for getting him seen and referred so quickly - just shows how vigilant you need to be as horse owners :) The tooth was long and larger than the space available in the back of the mouth so we had to section (cut) it to remove it completely - another post on that coming later. Happy to report the little chap is doing well after his abscess drain and tooth extraction #equinedentalclinic #nopaincheckagain #equinedentistry #advancedequinedentistry See more
