24.01.2022 How often do you see something like this on your social media feed: Hi everyone. We’re off for two weeks’ holiday; followed by day after day of glorious holiday snaps from faraway locations. As tempting as it is to share your holiday plans and adventures on social media, you may also be alerting would-be burglars that your home is empty and your stuff is ripe for stealing. Be sure to use social media sensibly while on holiday. Lock your profile privacy settings and make su...re the security on your posts is set to friends only not public. Remove people you do not trust from your friends’ and followers’ lists. Turn off location services and remove personal details or anything that could identify where you live from your profile pages and feeds. Try searching yourself online to see what, if any, personal information is being revealed. And remember, before you leave, let a trusted friend or neighbour, Australia Post and Victoria Police know the dates you will be away. You can fill out our "Absence from Residence" form here: https://bit.ly/2Q5MiK3 and hand it in at your local police station.

19.01.2022 Summer is certainly upon us and with Friday 4 January predicted to be a scorching 40 degree day state-wide, it is time to think Fire Safety. Preventing fir...es is everyone’s responsibility. Police are asking you, the community, to be mindful of your activities during the summer period, and especially in fire danger periods it could be your actions that result in loss of life or property. Last summer, police and emergency services saw overwhelming significant number of people taking part in careless and reckless behaviour that resulted in fires. Common causes of recklessly lit fires are burning off, campfires, car exhausts and machinery, use of tools such as angle grinders and welding equipment out in the open, bonfires, flares, farming machinery, and incorrectly putting out cigarette butts or discarding them illegally. Victoria Police adopts a zero-tolerance approach to deliberately or recklessly lit fires in our state and these crimes carry severe penalties. Police will investigate and take action to catch those responsible when a fire is deemed suspicious, whether it was deliberate or a reckless action. Police urge anyone that notices suspicious behaviour to report to Triple Zero (000) or Crime Stoppers via 1800 333 000. It is equally important to ensure your safety during extreme weather. So make sure you stay hydrated and refer to Vic Emergency and CFA (Country Fire Authority) for the most up to date information on fires in the area. Stay cool, stay aware and stay safe everybody!

18.01.2022 In an ever-changing digital space, it can be tough to stay across the perils and pitfalls of the online world, to ensure our kids are safe from criminals. Betwe...en cyber-bullying, phishing, trolling, sexting, paedophiles, scammers, stalkers, hackers, unsolicited contact, exposure to inappropriate content, and the myriad of ways to communicate across cyberspace; trying to stay safe and keep your kids safe online can be overwhelming. On today’s global Safer Internet Day, we encourage you to talk to your kids about what they are up to online, teach them about the potential dangers and get involved with their online activities. The Office of the eSafety Commissioner has heaps of great resources for parents at https://www.esafety.gov.au/ #SID2019 #SaferInternetDay See more

14.01.2022 FAQ: "WHY IS THE POLICE HELICOPTER OUT TONIGHT?" "Quite often I see posts by community members on locally supported social media pages, expressing concerns when they hear and/or see the police helicopter (otherwise known as POLAIR) in the skies over Wyndham. On occasion, police stations receive phone calls asking the same question. Over recent times, POLAIR has proven to be an invaluable resource in addition to more traditional policing methods. They assist with a range of ev...ents both planned and unplanned. There are substantial costs involved in maintaining and operating such a sophisticated machine however money is no object when it comes to our commitment to ensuring safety and service delivery in YOUR community. I personally as a supervisor, as well as my colleagues, often call on assistance from airborne resources without any thought other than to ensure maximum safety for our personnel and the community. By being able to have eyes observing from above we are able to identify and mitigate potential risks during an incident as well achieving our overall objective as safely and efficiently as possible. Next time you see or hear POLAIR above please do not be alarmed, but rather feel confident that we are armed with the necessary tools to maximise our service delivery." Acting Sergeant Tem Hawkes Wyndham North Police

10.01.2022 Thinking of selling your car on Gumtree? Watch out for this scam!

06.01.2022 School's back this week for most students across Victoria. So that means school speed zones and school crossings are also back in operation. Take particular car...e when driving or riding near schools, slow down and obey all signs and signals. And if you're walking to school, look both ways before crossing the road, take care when crossing and be sure to cross only when the pedestrian light facing you is green or the school crossing supervisor indicates that it's safe to do so. Have a great year at school! Let's watch out for each other. See more

05.01.2022 Ever had to perform a Mission Impossible at your own house to get inside when you've locked yourself out? Scale a wall like Spiderman? Leap onto a balcony lik...e the Bionic Woman? Sip through a tiny toilet window like Ant Man? You may not realise it, but if you are able to get inside your locked house, no matter how difficult an exercise, then a thief could probably find their way in too. The best place for a spare key is with a trusted neighbour, relative or friend, not hidden outside your house. And never leave any windows or doors unlocked - even those not on the ground floor. Thieves know all the hiding spots and all the tricks. If it's easy for you, it's easy for a thief. Find out more ways to minimise the risk of your home being burgled at https://bit.ly/2Rtj78r

04.01.2022 Keep an eye out folks for our furry friends over the New Year. Fireworks can cause them to be scared and stressed and they may break out of their homes trying to escape the noise. Feel free to post pics of lost pets on our page so we can help reunite them with their owners and get them home safe.

03.01.2022 We are united in solidarity with everyone taking part in the Women's March this weekend. All women should be free to live their lives without intimidation, hara...ssment or violence. Women have a right to be safe; to be able to go about their lives safely, work safely, get home safely, live at home safely. No-one should ever feel afraid or hurt in their own home. No-one should have to put up with violence of any kind. It's up to all of us to change the culture of violence against women for the next generation. The #WomensWave is coming. See more
