25.01.2022 My whirlwind road trip around France has been one fabulous adventure with a final stop in the historical city of Troyes, just south of Calais in the Champagne region. A visit to the Gothic cathedral was a must and I ogled the beauty of the stain glass windows and delicate sculptural decorative elements on the exterior, a masterpiece for sure. Now its time for some serious work to get the residency up and running for my return to Mas des Pèlerins, Provence in September. W...e have established a new art prize to be formally announced soon! Joining our selection committee is British freelance art critic and commentator on the visual arts, Laura Gascoigne. She reviews regularly for The Spectator, is the art critic of The Tablet and publishes a satirical column in The Jackdaw. She is currently finishing a comic novel about the art world. When not writing, she paints. We look forward to welcoming Laura to the residency this autumn where she will meet the creatives in residence and experience the Under the Autumn Leaves Festival in Eygalieres for the month of October. Our studio doors will be open every weekend for the many international visitors to view the exciting artworks that will be on display. 14.01.2022 What a treat! A little getaway to the French Riviera for a few days, gave me the opportunity to visit the museum Bonnard in Le Cannet. We were graced with an extraordinary collection of works spanning 5 decades of his career over 5 floors. There were so many highlights featuring a multitude of subject matter, glorious light flooded landscapes, intimate depictions of Marthe his wife and muse, and exquisite still life compositions, amongst the genius of his observations of the hustle and bustle of Parisian life. It was another highlight in this rich cultural landscape dotted with museums and galleries at every turn and only 2 hours from Mas des Pelerins! 14.01.2022 La belle Provence beckons and only a few more days to go until I board the Euro shuttle and tear myself away from London! There has been so much to see and do with galleries now open and exhibitions to delight in. Just recently I visited the Henry Moore Foundation in Hertfordshire. It was a magnificent day wandering in and around the extraordinary monumental bronze and stone sculptures, placed within his 70 acres of gardens and rolling fields.The Foundation was founded by Hen...ry and his family in 1977 and includes his restored home Hoglands, his flower garden, his studios, the Sheep Field Barn gallery, the medieval Aisled Barn with a display of nine large colourful tapestries based on his drawings. The Bourne studio revealed his bountiful found objects and maquettes, all a veritable feast for the eyes. He even bought the local pub the Hoops, where I lavished over a Sunday roast with Yorkshire pudding! 10.01.2022 has been fascinated with the rubbing technique since the 1960s, a time also marked by the escalation of the Vietnam War. His art practice explores sovereign border issues- walls, barriers and the vehicles used in enforcement such as aircraft, tanks and ships using this age-old art technique. Howards interest in investigating the relationship between civil and military cultures and documenting its history has meant he has travelled to often highly militarised con...flict zones. He has examined sites including the Berlin Wall, the Walls of Derry during The Troubles period, the China/North Korean rivers border and the Israeli Separation Barrier using the rubbing technique to create works up to 60 meters long. He was Dean of the College (COFA) from 1998 till 2013 and prior to that was Provost and Director of the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University in Brisbane. 02.01.2022 About this time last year we were making the NG Art Creative Residency movie! We chose our favourite locals to interview along with the many talented artists who were residing with us at the time. We partnered with the the outstanding Domaine Milan to offer an art prize which Belinda Fox won. She was awarded a residency with us and the chance for her artwork to appear on his wine label with the wine to be distributed internationally in 2021! What a coup. We love our partnerships and collaborations and this one is worth the watch!
02.01.2022 How wonderful to be on the road again driving from London back to my beloved Eygalieres. The French opened up their borders and off I went in a whirlwind! Im excited to enjoy summer in France and I will reopen the residency mid September. Anyone fancy a visit? Of course the meander back includes stopping in the wonderful historic village of Amboise and with 350 chateaux dotted around the Loire Valley, I chose this one to stay in for a few days en route. 02.01.2022 Creative assistant/Internship Excited to share Im heading back to France next week and Im eager to re open the residency! So with that said see below! We are seeking a wonderful creative and forward thinking individual to intern with us at the NG Art Creative Residency for a period of 2.5 months between mid September and December to work a total of 5 days per week in return for in-bound flights to France, full board, lodgi...ng and an opportunity to engage with the program, be surrounded by like minded creatives, discuss, collaborate, expand your networks and immerse yourself in the European culture. This is a particular role that requires someone with an easy going and happy disposition, dedicated to supporting its residents, and working as a team within a highly charged and intimate environment. With her mentorship, friendship and guidance, I have gained invaluable practical experience and knowledge in arts administration, events management, curatorial work and have direct exposure to working alongside a diverse range of talented artists on an international scale. I have so much admiration and awe for Nicky and everything she does. I feel inspired by her devotion, passion and drive for the arts, and hope one day, I may too, come close to being the woman that she is. I have developed a lifelong friendship with Nicky and am cherishing every moment. This 2019 work titled illustrates the formless structures that represent matters of nature. Through the use of Ink and acrylic gouache on Korean paper, Shin aims to express the intertwined relationships of the universe. graduated from B.F.A and M.F.A in Oriental Pai...nting at Hongik University in Seoul. She has participated in several exhibitions in South Korea, India, Finland, Japan and China, including solo exhibitions at Topohaus and GalleryDos in Seoul.
