24.01.2022 So lets talk about using cruelty-free or eco-friendly products For those of you who know me and/or have ever worked with me, will know that both matters are especially important to me. So much so, I have set myself a goal to have my professional makeup kit cruelty free by 2021. This is a long process (and slightly exy) but a totally worthwhile cause ... So, all products that I will recommend are cruelty-free and where possible toxin-free and eco-friendly. This means they are better for you and the environment particularly avoiding parabens and sulphates. Shopping cruelty-free can be super confusing with unclear labelling and it takes a little while to know what you are looking for, but once you get the gist of it, it becomes a whole lot easier. This style works really well with extensions that can be purchased from me in a set of 10 pieces. This will give you loads more volume for that really thick full look you see on Pinterest... . I commonly get asked these questions - Is it real hair? Yes, remy human hair - Can I colour them? Yes you can to match your hair but to be honest usually picking one of the colours in your hair will blend beautifully - Do I need to cut them? Yes you need to book in with your hairdresser to get them cut for your hair length and style - How do they attach in the hair? There are clips on each weft which go in close to your scalp and then you can remove at the end of the day - Do they look real? 19.01.2022 What would you say if I told you that you could feel more confident just by spending a few minutes a day on yourself? . Think about it, when was the last time you committed to regular self care. We all know that this is essential to our wellbeing but so often it gets pushed down the list of priorities because we are doing things for others, or we are just too tired . Think about the last time you got your hair done. Did you walk in feeling a bit drab and leave feeling amazing... with those clean, bouncy fresh hair feels?! . Can you feel it now Im describing it?! . Just 5mins a day, 35 minutes a week? It isnt much is it, but it makes such a difference . 18.01.2022 MASCARA DRAMAS? SO many women ask me what mascara they should use! Its something most of us wear every day so we are all on a mission to find the perfect one that gives the right amount of volume, doesnt flake, is nice and black and above all doesnt lead to panda eyes.... Here you have a selection of my faves: 1. @kevynaucoin The Volume Mascara (my all time favourite and a tubing formula) 2. @marcjacobsbeauty Velvet Noir Major Volume (not tubing but ultra black and volumising and doesnt flake off) 3. @mirenessecosmetics Secret Weapon 24hr (doesnt flake and is a tubing formula) 4. @hourglasscosmetics Unlocked Instant Extensions Mascara (tubing and gives lovely length and volume but does flake slightly on me by the end of the day - no panda eyes though) I probably prefer their Caution Extreme version however. So the reason I love a tubing formula is that it doesnt run or cause panda eyes but is gentle and comes off with water at the end of the day. If any flakes do come off (or you cry) the pieces can be easily brushed away rather than create a mess under the eyes or down your face I say waterproof mascaras should be used for when you are actually swimming as they are quite drying and can be hard to remove potentially doing damage to your lashes. 15.01.2022 I've been speaking to a lot of women recently and what's really apparent is how many women feel embarrassed because they don't wear makeup on a daily basis. This is for many reasons - it could be because they don't know how to do it or they don't have time or they choose not to. All of these reasons are completely valid and I wanted to show that I don't wear makeup daily either so I jumped on my stories to dispel the idea that 1) Because I'm a makeup artist I wear it daily ...and 2) I am ever judging your efforts to either wear or not wear it. What I really want to do is to empower women to feel great at any age and to love the skin they are in. The last thing I want is to make women feel embarrassed because they don't know what to do. I'd love for you to be able to put on your makeup for an event or a date night and feel confident doing it, to be able to walk into a store (or shop online) and know exactly what you need. 14.01.2022 Ill let you in on a secret. Before & after shots are not really my favourite set of pics to share. Why? Well, it has always felt like Im saying look how average this person looked before, but then after I made them look amazing. Im also really big on promoting being comfortable in your own skin with a fresh, makeup free face... The thing is, I see these transformations first hand and how they make someone feel. I see that change from uncertainty and nervousness to a happy, confident woman who then stands in front of the camera and actually has a whole load of fun. I remember this shoot well with Jen from vividity photography by Jennifer Taylor, we photographed a fun mum and her two daughters and I loved that we chose a red lip and kept everything else paired back. Thats the key to using colour. Choose one feature to highlight and then keep everything else natural. Are you a red-lipped loving beauty? 12.01.2022 Au naturel I absolutely love the contrast between Shalane’s skin and hair. It’s a stunning combination. Nailing your natural look and having an easy ‘go-to’ style is something I hear from my mum clients.... I get told there just isn’t a lot of spare time in the morning, and any spare time that does exist is spent trying to find lost shoes and certainly not applying makeup I get that, because like you, I am a mum too. This is me with my (not so little now) dog Maisie. This photo was taken a little while ago, not long after we got Maisie, at a photo shoot we did at home with my hubby and two girls. ... 04.01.2022 Attention biz women! Have you got a recent headshot or is your profile/bio pic from a wedding you went to 10 years ago? If it is or it just doesnt look like you any more, then you need to get it updated. Its no longer an option, its essential that you can relate to your clients and customers with a shot that projects you and your personality. People do care about this stuff and they check you out before they contact you. If you are hiding behind words or an arty shot of y...ou looking away, how can they get a feel for whether they want to work with you? Jen at @vividity_personal_brand_photos is one of my favourite clients and a master of teaching you how to pose and bringing out what makes you, you! I hate having photos taken is no longer an excuse -trust me you will relax and actually have a lot of fun - and you will have me or one of her other amazing artists there to make you look and feel amazing. 03.01.2022 Introducing MY WORLD My family is pretty much the heart and soul of what I do and just like you, I love spending quality time with them. However, it is not ALWAYS glamorous! I.E hair & makeup done! ... Just like you, I juggle a young family consisting of two young kids, a hubby, and are soon to be adding a puppy into the mix (eeek) On top of running a business (I wont lie) its tough, and at times feels rushed, chaotic, and messy. But I LOVE it! This photo is a little old now which is a good reminder to take some more! (watch this space) I feel as mothers we spend way more time behind the camera taking photos of our children and our other halves than being in them! 03.01.2022 Love the look of concentration on my face and Emma trying not to blink I know when I'm doing your eyes, it can be super hard not to blink, especially if you have sensitivities or that nuisance reflex which starts the tears! I hear you & you’re not alone! ... But guess what? You can totally blink Yep, while I am doing your mascara you can blink normally. So, you need not worry about watering eyes ever again. I will also pull the wand away briefly and that’s your moment to get a few extra blinks in if you need to. If your eyes are deep-set I recommend you keep looking down to avoid that pesky mascara smudge on your upper lid. Hope that helps for next time you get your makeup done. Here I was playing hairstylist for the gorgeous Sofie. I think we used David Austin roses in her soft up style florist friends correct me if I’m wrong! Her hair was wasn’t overly long or super thick, so I was able to add some loose curls for a little wow factor Having florals incorporated as part of your hairstyle always gives an uncomplicated yet elegant look. And, compared to bridal hair clips or fascinators, it is a little easier on the wallet too! See more
