25.01.2022 3 more brave souls lost today. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, friends and colleagues, RIP

Central (including Melbourne) North Central South West No fires can be lit in the open air between 00:01 hours on 22/01/2020 and 23:59 hours on 22/01/2020 Visit the Can I or Can't I guide on the CFA website www.cfa.vic.gov.au/can If you have plans to travel ensure you visit www.emergency.vic.gov.au for the latest information on incidents across Victoria.

24.01.2022 Victoria is going to implement the first step towards the new national warning system from today. In support of the new national warning system Victoria will ad...opt the new national icons set from December 2, 2020. The Australian Warning System is a new national approach to information and warnings during five natural disasters - bushfire, flood, extreme heat, cyclones and severe weather. Until now, we have seen variations in how agencies across Australia issue warnings to their communities. The VicEmergency website will be updated with the new iconography on December 2, with the VicEmergency app updated shortly afterwards.

24.01.2022 Happy 80th birthday to a long time member and friend, Bert Rae. Bert and his family have been associated with the brigade since its creation. Hope you have a great day and we hope to see you very soon. From all the Narre Warren North CFA members past and present.

24.01.2022 Let's hope for a quieter season this year.

21.01.2022 Today as Australia rises for ANZAC Day, together we remember all those who have served. The fallen and returned, men, women, young and old. This year, we also ...recognise the significant contribution our defence personnel made to an unprecedented fire season and thank them for their support throughout the recovery effort. #StandAtDawn Image credit: Defence Australia

20.01.2022 It's been a while but you may see us more regularly at the brigade and in the area undertaking training in preparation for the 2020/21 bushfire season. Always ready, always here for the community.

20.01.2022 Today marks the 37th anniversary of the Ash Wednesday bushfires. On Wednesday the 16th of February 1983, around 180 bushfires broke out across Victoria and Sou...th Australia, causing the loss of 47 Victorians and more than 2,000 homes. CFA members also remember our fellow firefighters from Narre Warren Fire Brigade CFA, Nar Nar Goon Fire Brigade - CFA, Panton Hill CFA and Wallacedale Fire Brigades who made the ultimate sacrifice for their community on that day. Their loss remains in our thoughts. So much of what CFA is today was shaped by Ash Wednesday and the Royal Commission that followed. Improvements to firefighter safety, building survival, community education and aerial firefighting are some of the legacy changes we still benefit from today. I recently took my team on a visit to the Ash Wednesday Bushfire Education Centre in Cockatoo. Ex-Captain Graham Simpson (Cockatoo Rural Fire Brigade(CFA) gave us a moving presentation of his experiences of the day and the community recovery that followed. I’d strongly encourage all CFA members to take to time to visit this facility next time you’re in the area. It’s open each weekend between 11am and 3pm.

20.01.2022 A record 51 aircraft will hit Victorian skies to help fight fires and keep communities safe this summer season. The 2020-21 aircraft fleet includes a mix of w...ater bombing aircraft, air supervision and air intelligence-gathering aircraft. Two Large Air Tankers, which can carry up to 15,000 litres of water, foam or retardant, and two 7500-litre Aircranes, will contribute to the 51 aircraft in the core-fleet and provide essential support to other aircraft across the state.

20.01.2022 Welcome back to #MemberMonday. Tonight's member is Tom. Tom has been awarded his CFA 5 Year Service Award. ... What's your Occupation? Database Administrator (or just an IT guy, in other words). What's your age? 45 How long have you been in CFA? 7 years How long in Narre Warren North CFA? 7 years What hobbies/interests do you have? Being a CFA firefighter, of course and I'm also the brigade treasurer - which probably takes up more of my time than the firefighting. Spending time with my family, reading, video gaming and also trying to get fit for the upcoming fire season - I've put on a few COVID kilos! What made you join the CFA? Since moving here from Ireland, I've always been impressed by the strength of volunteerism in Australia. CFA certainly intrigued me - and it looked like a refreshing change from my desk job - so I waited until the kids were all out of their toddler stage and joined the Narre Warren North fire brigade. What has been your most memorable CFA experience? Probably the 2014 Mickleham-Kilmore fire - where I had the opportunity to put all the skills I'd learned on the Bushfire Firefighting course some months before - to good use. It was an intense but rewarding experience. What is your favourite thing about Narre North? The friendships I've made with some really decent people, from all walks of life - although a bunch of them are computer nerds as well! Everyone brings their own unique life experiences, perspectives and skills to the brigade - and they're all there for the right reason - to help the community. What advice would you give someone wanting to join CFA? Just come along with an open mind - it's not all lights and sirens and action - although that's a part of it. Enjoy the training but take it seriously as well. Listen to the more experienced brigade members - there's a ton of accumulated knowledge among your fellow firefighters. Always keep learning. Thanks Tom. Keep an eye out next Monday for another profile.

20.01.2022 Hi Everyone There is no doubt that the presence of COVID-19 is changing the way we go about our daily lives and conduct our business activities. The Narre Warren North Fire Brigade is no exception and we have also had to change some of the things that we do. So you might notice that we will be a little less active around the Fire Station and in the local area. As part of our response to limit the spread of COVID-19 we have suspended all non-essential activities such as:... -Tuesday night training and meetings, -Attending local schools and community events, -Social and fundraising activities, -Community education. Rest assured though that we are here and will continue to respond to calls for emergency service 24 hours a day 7 day a week. We will also maintain a limited duty roster on Sunday mornings to ensure that all our equipment is in good operational condition and ready for action. We are 100% volunteers, 100% dedicated to serving our community and to protect life and property. Remember, for all emergencies call 000 Captain Mark

18.01.2022 Don’t be half masked! Remember these steps to wearing your mask correctly. Wash your hands before putting on the mask. Make sure it covers your nose and ...mouth and fits snugly under your chin, over the bridge of your nose and against the sides of your face. Do not touch the front of the mask while wearing it. To remove the mask wash or sanitise your hands first. Carefully remove your mask by grasping the ear loops or untying the ties. If your mask has filters, remove them and throw them away. Fold the mask and put it directly into the laundry or into a disposable or washable bag for laundering. Wash or sanitise your hands after removing the mask. 18.01.2022 Tomorrow between 10am and 1pm, we'll be down at Marco's IGA to answer any questions you have about fire safety at home or for the bushfire season. Unfortunately we won't be doing our usual BBQ but come say Hi. Stay safe.

18.01.2022 Below is our PLANNED Santa Run schedule for this weekend. Please be aware that Santa will be travelling on a working Fire Fighting Appliance and occasionally the appliances will need to ask Santa to wait while they go off and fight fires, this may mean that Santa will not always be where we say we will be and may not arrive at the time we thought he'd be there. We ask for your patience and understanding if this happens. The arrival of Santa will likely be preceded by one of our support vehicles.

17.01.2022 This Australia Day we thank the community for their support of the CFA and our emergency services partners. We have loved the letters of appreciation we’ve received from far and wide. While we can’t share them all, here are a few. The community’s support keeps us going.

15.01.2022 Every 4th of May, we celebrate St Florian's Day otherwise known as International Firefighters Day. A day to remember the fallen firefighters, those that have served and those that continue to do so. A special day for us remembering the 79 CFA firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty. This summer’s bushfires were another reminder just how precious life is and we'd like to pay special tribute to our colleagues from DELWP, NSWRFS and the United States who tra...gically lost their lives. Victorian firefighters Bill Slade, Mat Kavanagh and David Moresi. New South Wales firefighters Geoffrey Keaton, Andrew O’Dwyer and Samuel McPaul. United States firefighters Ian McBeth (Montana), Paul Hudson (Arizona) and Rick DeMorgan Jr (Florida) who travelled very far from their homes to help us all. 14.01.2022 Today marks a new era in the delivery of fire services in Victoria with the introduction of Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV). There has been a lot of reporting in the media over the last few days regarding FRV and the future operational and administrative relationship with what will now be a fully volunteer based CFA. I am sure that these changes and the myriad of associated and at times conflicting media reports may be confusing for some in our community. Your local fire brigad...e in Narre Warren North remains a 100% volunteer CFA brigade. For us, nothing changes and nor will there be any change in the level of service to our community. I commit to you, our community, that we remain dedicated to providing a first-class fire service to Narre Warren North and surrounding areas, and to the state of Victoria. We will be there to protect life and property 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every week of the year as we have done for the past 76 years. Stay safe Captain Mark

06.01.2022 Welcome back to #MemberMonday. Last weeks was missed due to a hectic social media presence. Tonight's member is Carlie. Carlie has been awarded her CFA Service Awards for 5, 10 and will be awarded her 15 years this year once we can get together again. She has also received the National Emergency Medal for the 2009 Vic Fires. ... What's your Occupation? Registered Nurse working in everything from neuroscience to emergency. What's your age? 29 How long have you been in CFA? 16 years How long in Narre Warren North CFA? 16 years What hobbies/interests do you have? I absolutely love camping and country music. What made you join the CFA? My dad quite literally made me try the CFA juniors program when I was a kid.. and I never left. It's never knowing when a call out will come through and what it will be when we get there that keeps you on your toes and makes me keep coming back as a senior. What has been your most memorable CFA experience? Memories of black Saturday definitely stay with you and most people that fought on that day will never forget it. But for something different; I recall a significant car accident I attended where the young person that was cut from the car in a bad way and she came back to visit us after a long stint in hospital recovering. It definitely played on the heart strings knowing how much we helped her because we usually never see the people we help again once they head off to hospital. What is your favourite thing about Narre North? It's like one big family a lot of the time, I have a lot of bonus brothers, sisters and uncles. I also love that we have a brigade with members that have so many different skill sets that they bring to the brigade. What advice would you give someone wanting to join CFA? If you're thinking about it, just do it! Its a lot of learning and certainly takes some getting used to but once you have caught the firefighting 'bug' you'll probably never want to leave! Thanks for your time Carlie. Keep an eye out next Monday for another profile.

I told everyone to get going just as our pagers went off. We went out to try and catch to fire but the wind was moving so fast it was almost impossible to catch. Most of the afternoon and night was a blur after that we were so busy trying to save lives and homes. I recall coming home for breakfast and breaking down with the news of so many lives lost in other areas of Victoria and thankful that we didn’t lose any in Narre Warren North.
