25.01.2022 So great to have the Hon. Roger Cook Minister for Health visit our staff at Joondalup Health Campus today. The Minister is taking time out of his already very busy schedule to meet personally with health care staff, to hear their thoughts and ideas and talk to them about the status of health in WA. Was great to see him greet bariatric surgeon and peritonectomy expert Professor Paul Moroz the COVID safe way!
24.01.2022 As we launch into Telehealth Awareness Week (19-25 October) we bring to light the many benefits of attending an appointment via videoconference! Telehealth appointments connect you with your medical specialist, allied health professional or nurse from the comfort of your own home, all you need is a suitable device and internet connection, then we can send you an app to download it’s as easy as that! Genetic Services WA have had a huge increase in people utilising teleheal...th appointments in 2020. This year the service delivery model for Genetics has changed from 80 per cent client presentations and 20 per cent telehealth to 80 per cent telehealth and 20 per cent client presentations! Sarah Long, Genetic Counsellor at KEMH said: Telehealth has helped patients undergoing chemotherapy to remain at home when they are feeling unwell and still consult with specialists. Those patients that are autoimmune or sick can remain at home and still see the counsellors. Nicholas Pachter, Clinical Geneticist and Director Genetic Services, KEMH added: The whiteboard function and the sharing of screen function within videocall has been particularly useful to explain concepts to patients.
24.01.2022 Shout out tonight to our staff at Women and Newborn Health Service! It seems King Eddies is amidst a bit of a baby boom, with more women than ever requiring our Visiting Midwifery Service in the past few months. Not only has the boom meant delivering more babies, it has also meant more staff and longer hours, so tonight we put the spotlight on our staff who regardless of what’s going on in their individual lives, put aside the outside world to provide our WA women with world class obstetrics and gynaecology services. #NMHSTeamwork #NMHSCare #NMHSRespect #KEMH #NMHSStaffexcellence
24.01.2022 Our Pregnancy and Infant Loss Day Service held in the King Edward Memorial Garden today was a wonderful chance to reflect and to recognise the overwhelming grief a family suffers after losing a child who sadly, did not have the opportunity to reach their potential. A huge acknowledgement goes out to our pastoral care and perinatal loss service teams - who provide world class support to our families and to Rotary Club of Matilda Bay, who helped make the garden look so specta...cular. More than 30 buildings around WA, including KEMH will be lit blue and pink in a show of unity and support tonight. #pregnanyandinfantloss

22.01.2022 Congratulations to our clinical geneticist Dr Gareth Baynam and his team from the Women and Newborn Health Service's Genetic Services WA. Gareth is the Clinical Advisor and Project Lead of the Cliniface project which has just been announced as a finalist in the Premiers Science Award under the Chevron Science Engagement Initiative of the Year category. Cliniface is a software application pioneered with Curtin University and others that provides visualisation, analysis, and ...reporting tools for 3D facial images. The application is aimed primarily at medical professionals who seek to leverage 3D facial images to explore the richness of the facial surface to visualise, identify, and communicate cues of syndromic or surgical relevance. Cliniface enables collaborative consultation by bringing the digital patient into the room reducing the occurrence and duration of patient visits with a clinician, and augmenting and enhancing a clinicians abilities in making timely and accurate facial assessments. 19.01.2022 Our dedicated SCGH and OPH social workers joined forces to raise awareness during Homelessness Week, themed Everybody needs a home, and spearheaded an initiative to collect donations for homeless people in WA . Homelessness is a long-standing concern that has been worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic. With an estimated 9,000 people were experiencing homelessness in WA. Staff really got behind the drive for donations and mustered an impressive amount and range of items which will be handed over to the Tranby Engagement Hub (Uniting WA) an organisation that has been working 24/7 to assist people experiencing a change in living circumstances since the onset of the pandemic. #nmhs_wa #staffexcellence #scgophcg
19.01.2022 Let the games begin!!! With all the spectacle of the event itself this year’s Nursing Extravaganza at our Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital took on the Olympic theme. It has been a terrific opportunity and I am so glad I applied for the position.
