04.01.2022 Restrictions on moving around in the community are loosening, but seniors need to be extra careful as life starts to go back to normal. There are no restrictions in place about older people spending time outside their homes. However, people over 70 years old are more likely to become very ill if they contract #COVID19. So, exercise caution when deciding who to visit and where you go.... If you go to the shops or a restaurant and it looks busy, return home and try again later. Its exciting to be able to visit with your children and grandkids again. But its still important to maintain physical distancing for your health, even inside the home. Rather than hugging your grandkids, for now, its best to stick to a wave or an elbow bump. And of course, make sure that anyone with a runny nose or a sore throat stays at home! Finally, please make sure you practice good hygiene, and if you have any symptoms at all, get tested.

01.01.2022 "The older kids call me by my name but most of the time Im the lollipop lady. I dont mind being called that at all. I really love it. My grandkids are my ever...ything. I thought Id give this job a go and see, and you know what... I love it. I really do. Im a crossing supervisor at Cronulla South Public School and the kids here are fantastic, so polite and they always say good morning and thank you. Such good kids, kids youd be proud to have. Its nice to be out here every day. All the bus drivers wave. The garbage truck men wave, the police, they all come around and they say hello. Its like being part of a big NSW Government family. Theres a sweet, old lady who lives up the road and she drives past the crossing each morning and she waves at me. Shell even come down and say, "youre doing a really good job, great work". Shes so cute and it makes my day. The community, the teachers, the parents are so appreciative and it makes such a difference. Im here to look out for their kids. Everyone can be in a rush but its important to just slow down. Remember, youre only allowed to be driving 40km/ph in school zones. The kids come first. You have to understand that theyre only little. They can do silly things without thinking. So slow down, keep an eye out and watch out for me and my big red stop sign. If youre considering becoming a crossing supervisor, its worth doing. You feel like a part of the community when you do this job. You get to know people and they get to know you. Im going to be doing this for a long time yet. Up until I retire. Maybe even after. As long as the kids are at school and I have my big red lollipop sign. Ill be here." - Donna, NSW Crossing Supervisor, Cronulla South Public School. A big thank you to all our NSW crossing supervisors and a huge welcome to 88 new recruits who are keeping our kids safe around NSW. Be sure to say hello to your local supervisor on the next school run. If youre interested in applying to be one https://bit.ly/School-Crossing-Supervisors
