25.01.2022 For those of you wondering. Altered hours over Easter are:

24.01.2022 Beautiful petrified douglas fir slab with an emanating branch at 6 o’clock, from the Columbia River Basalts in Washington, USA, Miocene age.

24.01.2022 This weekend would have been our annual gemshow had it not been for the current covid restrictions. Though we are missing seeing your smiling faces next year will be here before we know it. Thank you for all your support

24.01.2022 The new Western Australian Museum has a fantastic meteorite display. Best part is you can touch some of them. My former specimen of the Miles Meteorite is on display as well. With Lesley Daniels

21.01.2022 Spending time in lockdown? So let’s have some fun in the workshop. My wife does mosaics so we have plenty of glass shards available for me to have fun with. I purchased some mandrills and some clay compound.(to stop the glass sticking to the mandrill) and I was set to try some glass beads. I also purchased some glass rods to get started. After many trials and failures I have started to get some results. I found that the mosaic glass did not retain its colour very well and hen...ce the dark beads. The purchased rods were ok and hence the few yellow beads. The best results to date have come from a green glass scotch bottle (contents consumed prior). It has given a fairly clear green bead. My challenge now is to create two identical size and shaped beads, and to do a better job of cleaning the finished items. The clay loves to stick inside the hole and my ultra sonic cleaner is not up to the job. A visit to eBay appears imminent. What have other members been creating? David Jamie.

16.01.2022 Got this from a friend. Happy Wednesday everyone!

09.01.2022 Agate Creek - interesting stone with mixture of watery sardonyx and nice top fill. 3" high and white skin.

08.01.2022 Armlet of Queen Ahhotep I When it was found among the mummy’s hair, this gold armlet of Ahhotep I was thought to be a crown. Because of its diameter, however, i...t is certain that it was to be worn round the arm for protection. It is inlaid with lapis lazuli and carnelian and decorated with vulture of gold and inlays bearing the names of Ahmose I. Second Intermediate Period, 17th Dynasty, ca. 1560-1530 BC. From Dra’ Abu el-Naga’, West Thebes. Now in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo.

07.01.2022 Now and then. Recent fir cone on top and 30 million year old cone from Germany at the bottom. Some designs are too good to change!
