According to the Adelaide Biplanes website: The S model aircraft boasts cruise speeds in excess of 110 knots, it has 180 hp and with 200 litres fuel capacity giving an endurance of up to five hours. 11.01.2022 Hawker Demon Propeller - RSL Macclesfield Sub Branch Hawker Demon Prop finally has a safe home at RSL Macclesfield Sub Branch. Donated by 608 Squadron to 622 Squadron and on to RSL Macclesfield. It had a hard life displayed in open weather deteriorating away for many years. Unfortunately it cannot be kept at squadrons due to WHS regulations at great installation and restoration expense. We are so pleased that the Team at Macclesfield RSL Sub Branch took up the challenge to gi...ve the Hawker Demon Propeller a new lease of life and a place of honor in their Sub Branch. They quickly enlisted the local Mens Club (with RSL members) who offered to restore it for nothing! The restoration has taken over 12 months and was recently mounted on the wall inside the RSL Macclesfield Sub Branch old 1855 Building in Main Street of Macclesfield. It took 3 men and a scaffold to mount instead of its sorrowful state where it could literally be picked up and carried under one arm. The restoration itself was done by a Team of Volunteers including the son of a gentleman who actually worked in the factory in the UK making the plane! They obtained details and drawings from UK to help with restoration process which included putting it into a bath of solution for 6 months and manufacturing of the metal fly pins - and the metal cutting leading edge back on the Prop. The mounting bracket was specially constructed to hold the weight and is anchored in the 1855 Stone of the building. Congratulations and thank you to the dedicated members of Macclesfield RSL Sub Branch. Macclesfield RSL Sub Branch is open every Wednesday.
