24.01.2022 Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition that causes the rapid buildup of skin cells. The buildup of cells causes scaling on the skin's surface. Psoriasis typically presents whitish-silver scales and develops in thick, red patches. It often appears on the knees, elbows, trunk and scalp and can be inflamed and itchy. Traditionally mainstream treatment of psoriasis is the use of topical steroids, coal tar, ultraviolet light therapy and in severe cases, immune suppressing me...dications. In nutritional skin care we look a little deeper and address potential underlying triggers. As psoriasis is an autoimmune condition, increased intestinal permeability or 'leaky gut' is one to address. There have been several studies that link many autoimmune diseases with gut permeability. Certain foods may also trigger a psoriasis flare up, so a nutritionist will investigate this also. Psoriasis is a tricky condition to manage and there is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Nutritonal Skin Care will tailor treatment to your individual needs. Want to learn more about your psoriasis treatment options? Get in touch to book an appointment. 20.01.2022 C H E R R I E S Cherries are rich in antioxidants which help reduce and neutralise free radicals that may slow down the signs of ageing. Damaging free redicals may be a contributing factor in the production of wrinkles because they destroy collagen and elastin that keeps skin firm. Cherries are one of the only food sources of melatonin, our sleep promoting hormone, therefore cherries may assist with good sleep. And as we know, if we don't sleep well, it shows up on our face.

19.01.2022 When it comes to tackling chronic skin conditions, whether it be eczema, acne or excessively dry skin, looking deep within rather than the skin surface is the first step in bringing that inflammation down. The skin is our largest detoxification organ. When chronic inflammation is residing inside the body, and the body is naturally trying to rid of the potential cause of inflammation, one area to which the toxins will eliminate is the skin - especially when one of the body's ...other main detoxifying organs are not functioning properly. The gut, the liver and the endocrine system are body systems that can contribute to skin conditions. Nutritional skin care investigates these potential underlying causes to begin the process in healing the skin. When it comes to healthy skin, look a little deeper.

17.01.2022 Acne + Diet There are many people that suffer with acne that only tackle it at skin surface. Harsh acne skin care products or harsh medications that dry out the skin. What many don't realise is that acne is a systemic condition and something that should be addressed from the inside. Looking at liver function, gut heath and hormonal imbalances is a good start. I recently worked with a 21 year old who has suffered with acne this year but never really had it as a teen. She came... to me looking for a solution so we did an extensive food diary and discussed her liver and hormonal health and I decided to address the role IGF-1 hormone, high GI foods and dairy play in adult acne, and devised a plan in a diet overhaul to see if we gain success on reducing the severity of acne. After two weeks, the results speak for themselves.

10.01.2022 Skin Tags Do you have skin tags and have you had your blood sugar levels checked? Skin tags can be common amongst the ageing population, overweight people and pregnant women, but studies are showing a link between skin tags and insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes. ... If you have multiple skin tags on your body, it might be worth a trip to your doctor to check it out. They may want to test for diabetes and other metabolic disorders to rule it out. Having skin tags doesn't necessarily mean you have diabetes. But if you have skn tags and a very high sugar diet, might be a good idea to explore your health further.

07.01.2022 A great article from Bethany Hamilton regarding skin care, just as I launch my nutritional skin care service

06.01.2022 The skin is our largest detoxification organ. It works in harmony with the liver, the kidneys, the gastrointestinal and the lymphatic system - our other detoxification organs and systems. If the skin is showing angry and inflamed symptoms, it's a good indicator that something isn't functioning optimally on the inside. This may be gut dysfunction or an imbalance of microbiome, a sluggish liver or lymphatic system, nutrient deficiencies or an overactive immune system. When face...d with challenging skin disorders such as ezcema or acne, it's important to tackle these conditions from the inside. Send us a message to start your nutritional skin care journey for healthier skin.

03.01.2022 Vitamin A is an essential vitamin for skin health. Vitamin A is needed for a functioning immune system but is also required for wound healing. Whether eczema, acne or any kind of wound, sufficient Vitamin A in the body will ensure quick wound healing. Vitamin A is available as retinol which is animal sourced with liver being the richest source available, or carotenoids ... generally red and oranges fruit and vegies or green leafy vegie. Cod liver oil is a good supplemental source.

02.01.2022 You can't stop aging. It's a natural part of life. I personally find it a beautiful process. Lines on the face tell many a story. Laugh lines, frown lines, stress lines, lines around the eyes even those grey hairs we try to hide. I find it more beautiful than fillers, botox and copious amounts of toxic skincare and makeup. And for whatever reason, we have been conditioned to believe that aging skin is unpleasant to look at it, hence a multi billion dollar industry that exist...s in anti-aging products. I'm not immune to it. I take care of my skin, trying to maintain some sense of youthfulness to it, and I love makeup. But most of my anti-aging efforts comes from the inside out, with a very simple approach to low-tox skin care and makeup application. I actually can't stand the word anti-aging because it's a con. I prefer the term healthy aging because it's that healthy glow amongst the lines that is beautiful. Eat good food, remove toxicity and be kind. That's true beauty.
