24.01.2022 Last week was Transgender Awareness Week, 13 19 November, and I’m so proud to share Jonathan’s story with you. Jonathan joined the agency 6 months ago to help with job seeker claims. When he started he didn’t know if he’d be accepted as a transgender person, but the support he’s received has been a welcome surprise. ‘It’s been a massive change to my previous work experiences. I’ve never been anywhere that’s been so inclusive,’ he said.... Jonathan said raising awareness of transgender people and the issues they face is the first step in creating a culture of inclusion. But awareness is also the first step in creating change. ‘I’ve seen this in other LGBTI+ groups where education and knowledge help break down stereotypes. It also helps create change for our communities,’ he said. Jonathan’s main advice is it’s okay to ask questions. ‘People avoid questions because they don’t want to be rude or don’t know what to say. They think it’s bad to ask questions,’ he said. ‘But as long as you are polite and respectful, there are no silly questions.’ It’s wonderful to see Jonathan feeling safe to be his true self at work, and we wish him all the best in his role.

20.01.2022 I’d like to acknowledge four Services Australia staff members who’ve been recognised for their invaluable contributions following Cyclone Debbie in 2017. Kathy Wilson, Martin Bruce, Jo Rizzolo and Karina Jensen have all received the Governor-General’s National Emergency Medal. The award recognises the service and assistance Kathy, Martin, Jo and Karina provided to their communities while also personally experiencing the impacts of the crisis. Service Centre Managers Jo and K...arina worked long hours each day before returning home to care for their families and clean up their own properties in the evening. Program Managers Kathy and Martin delivered on-the-ground co-ordination, managing emergency services and ensured local service centres had the materials they needed to support the community during the crisis. Martin regularly traveled over 300km a day to make this happen. This is the first time our staff have received the medal and I’m extremely proud to be able to congratulate them on a well-deserved honour!

14.01.2022 Important reminder! Changes next month will make reporting your employment income easier. You won’t have to estimate how much you earnt in your reporting period. From 7 December, you’ll start reporting the gross amount you were actually paid during your reporting period. This amount will be on your payslip. There’s more information here: www.servicesaustralia.gov.au//way-you-report-your-employme

I encourage school leavers and their parents to check out this great resource on our website for more information: servicesaustralia.gov.au/leavingschool And if you missed it, you can watch the ful...l interview here: https://www.facebook.com/morningshowon7/posts/10157551799446053 See more

07.01.2022 The way you report employment income is about to change. From Monday 7 December, you’ll report the gross amount you and your partner were paid during your reporting period. You’ll be able to find this amount on your payslip. You’ll still report the hours you worked as usual. But if you haven’t been paid during your reporting period, you won’t need to report any paid income, even if you worked some shifts during that period.... Your reporting date won’t change, only the way you report your income. Go to our website for more info: www.servicesaustralia.gov.au//way-you-report-your-employme
