05.01.2022 : There are few players of Australian Rules Football that have had the same impact on the game as Graham ‘Polly’ Farmer MBE. A proud Noongar man, Farmer is considered the greatest ruck to have ever played the game, revolutionising the role with his impressive leap and prodigious long handball. ... Born in North Fremantle in 1935, Farmer went on to play 356 games of senior football winning six Premierships across three clubs, West Perth , East Perth, and Geelong where he was also captain. Farmer won three Sandover Medals as the fairest and best in the WAFL. Famer also won 10 club fairest and best awards with two coming at Geelong including in their Premiership year of 1963. Farmer coached each of the clubs he played for and coached the Western Australia state side on six occasions. Named as ruck in the AF Team of the Century, Farmer was an automatic selection as an Australian Football Hall of Fame inaugural Legend. Following his illustrious career, he founded the Polly Farmer Foundation in 1994 to empower Aboriginal students to succeed through academic enrichment programs. Farmer passed away in 2019 aged 84, leaving behind an indelible legacy which includes the Graham Farmer Freeway named in his honour.
