25.01.2022 It's always great to work with fellow local businesses. Here are some samples of poster work for Musk Beauty in Gungahlin - keep an eye out for these around the kiosk at The Marketplace shortly!

25.01.2022 Oof. You KNOW it’s bad when I uploaded a total of 3 posts in September. I’ve been on a crazy work rampage and I’m pretty dead now, so I’m taking this long weekend to recharge and accepting limited bookings for the rest of October. Rest and rejuvenation to all. #ouch

25.01.2022 Logo and business card designs for Ardour Home Maintenance. The brief: abstract shapes, easy to read, mostly typographic, and simple. We went with a calming sky blue to foster trust and stand out from a neon-infused industry.

25.01.2022 Oop. Big month coming up. Taking bookings for Dec 19/Jan 20 now. #bookedout #fullhouse #november

25.01.2022 So it turns out that the feathery, purple, dry thistle you see around is called a Scottish Thistle and it’s the floral emblem of Scotland! I learned this while doing branding work for Cardus Consulting late last year. My client Sharon was after something that visually represented her Scottish heritage, and we played with the thistle emblem while subtly integrating a double C. I think it stands out beautifully in gold on a navy background - what do you think? #engineering #consulting #logo

24.01.2022 Social media event cover for Friday night's Equinox party at Mr Wolf ft. Zenon Records.

23.01.2022 New blog post: 10 ways design impacts your everyday life (hint: you're on a device so it's happening right at this moment) https://www.origamigraphics.net//10-ways-design-impacts-yo

23.01.2022 8am to 10.30am - my most productive time of day. Shutdown has not changed the fact that it’s done in pyjamas. In fact you will find that if I’m still in my pyjamas at 4pm it’s because I’m getting smashed with work. What’s your most productive time? #grind #imeanthecoffeebeans

22.01.2022 Today I signed away ownership to Wild Colonial Concrete's new website. This concludes the branding project we've been working on including logo, business card and site! WCC's branding uses a hand-sketched motif of the client's grandmother's homestead, alongside old-fashioned, gothic text for a colonial feel. A black and white colour palette with dusty gold highlights gives a touch of elegance to a design which is timeless. Meanwhile, the site is a scrolling and no-nonsense one-pager with supplementary gallery included. Take a look! www.wildcolonialconcrete.com.au

21.01.2022 Fix at ANU. The brief was "simple and sophisticated". From the outset, the logo was planned to be cut in metal and mounted on a marble bench - so it would be matte black or bronze and avoid any intricate lines or complexity. A quintessential trendy cafe, Fix sells coffee, burgers and other casual treats for the savvy student. An invert variation was created to allow patterning on serviettes or cups, and provide an alternative option for cutting.

20.01.2022 Crashing waves, a ferocious marlin, and a swinging fishing line on a classic stamp - I loved working on this logo! Being able to get creative and illustrative in graphics work is great fun. *business name changed due to client preference.

18.01.2022 Had a great time at the My Gungahlin networking event last night, talking to likeminded business owners and fundraisers in the Canberra region. Big thanks to Mark for putting on a fantastic opportunity and Eastlake Gungahlin for the venue and food!

18.01.2022 Something I've been wanting to show you since November. It's about 95% complete now... #soon

15.01.2022 Logo for Tiamat Lures. The client was after a logo in the shape of a dragon’s head, but needed it simple enough so that you could still see it when shrunk down into the eye of a trolling lure. We refined down to this design, which includes a fish hook as part of the dragon’s shape.

15.01.2022 After a comparatively stressful and depressing holiday break, I’m open for business for 2020 - and quite relieved to be jumping back into design work. Here’s to the new year, and may we all have some proper, rejuvenating rest soon - especially those who have lost homes, livelihoods, businesses, or income during this fire season. #2020

15.01.2022 New blog post! Recently I've been reflecting on the most rewarding moments of my job. Have a read: https://www.origamigraphics.net//why-i-love-working-for-sm

15.01.2022 So apparently it was World Gin Day yesterday. #vectorart

14.01.2022 This SEO Analyzer has helped to bump me up a whole page in Google search. Check it out in the new blog post. https://www.origamigraphics.net/post/my-favourite-seo-tool

12.01.2022 Tis the season for plum blossoms and swooping magpies. And a happy Father's Day to all the dads and dads-to-be out there! #september

11.01.2022 The psychology graduate in me enjoyed working on this one. This is a family connectedness manual designed and typeset for local Doctor of Psychology Elise Woodman. This manual is full of strategies for family engagement and understanding, so colours are bright and approachable for warmth and engagement. Circular designs are repeated to emphasise connectedness and a cute paper chain features on the front cover. Every few pages there's also a full diagram spread complete with plenty of colour and round spokes forming a hive-like network

09.01.2022 Things I love: foliage, shades of green and blue, and elegantly handwritten cursive scripts. #wedding

08.01.2022 Logo, business card and stream overlay for musician Ben Batros. We focused on a black and white palette to match his funk and soul vibe, but added bright orange and blue highlights for a splash of fun! You'll also see some cheeky guitar lead silhouettes appearing throughout his branding. Watch Ben improv and play live on Wednesdays at his stream https://twitch.tv/benbatros

07.01.2022 My final logo design from the new ANU Bar redevelopment! Union Bao had an existing logo which was completely font-based and needed some work to help it flow better. I changed the font and made some custom text tweaks to create the flowing ribbon pattern. This logo sits in a lightbox for neon bar vibes, reminiscent of nightlife and late-night food in east Asia.

06.01.2022 Just the cutest . I love doing stationery and posters for baby showers. They've always got the cutest colours and the most fun ideas. I wish my mum had one of these at her baby shower because I would have shown them! I was 10 days late - meant to be a Halloween baby but am a November one instead #babyshower #guesstheduedate

05.01.2022 It's mid-month! That means there's a new blog post today... What's the Best Website Builder? I Rank 4 from Best to Worst for Amateurs. I’ve spent hundreds of hours in web builders, and I’ve learnt a bunch along the way. The biggest thing? It’s a massive personal preference and I’m not going to use the same builder for every client. I now have a full questionnaire I use to narrow down what they’re going to need!... But - if you’re thinking of braving website design on your own - some builders are better than others. I’ve written a big ol ranking here of Wix, Squarespace, WordPress and Shopify and explained WHY I think some are better for newbies than others. There’s an average score at the end and everything. It’s all very fancy. Just so nobody uses me, these are all my personal opinions from experience and I’m sharing them to help people avoid hours of trial/error/unused subscriptions. https://www.origamigraphics.net/po/the-best-website-builder Have a read! #bloggin

05.01.2022 New post! Tonight I'm talking about the difference between graphic design, web design and web development, and why I can only do two of those things. https://www.origamigraphics.net//graphic-design-web-design

04.01.2022 Where have I been the past 5 months...? Illustrating a book. Pleased to be able to reveal The Boy who became Santa Claus, the single largest project I’ve ever worked on and my first complete illustration credit. This children’s Christmas book was written by Paul Anthony Stevens - Author, a Greater Sydney pastor, and takes you through the origins of Santa through the eyes of a young Nicholas. A super sweet read for the kids. You can buy this in time for Christmas on Amazon or at Book Depository - or find the links here: https://www.paulanthonystevens.com.au/ #deckthehalls

04.01.2022 Live in Canberra, own a business and looking to increase your client base? 03.01.2022 Had such a good time revamping this logo for Sweet Peach Candles, who are pretty much my ideal client. I love candles. I rejigged their original brushstroke logo into a cute peach design with some bohemian cursive, and fully vectorised everything for total clarity whenever and wherever. The brush graphic was hand-drawn in Photoshop and then Image Traced in Illustrator. And if you look closely, you'll see that the stalk of the peach is actually a lit wick. So in love! If you'd like a logo revamp, it's only $100 - just provide an image of your old logo and a description of what you think you're looking for in your upgrade.

03.01.2022 Stoked at these BEAUTIFUL samples from Stitch Press. They even arrived in a personalised envelope. So impressed guys. #printing

01.01.2022 Excited to be able to share this! "Please Just Say You're Proud of Me: Perspectives of Young People on Parent Engagement and Doing Well at School" is a report by the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth. Funded by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training, this report examines what high school-aged children and adolescents want from their parents or guardians, and from their education. Origami Graphics laid out and typeset this report befor...e making the digital version WCAG compliant. It features artwork from Narrabundah College students, plus hand-painted brush strokes in the ARACY colours and digitised, coloured quotes written by the students in the study. You can read the media release and full report here (21.1MB - lots of artwork): https://www.aracy.org.au/publications-resources/area

01.01.2022 New post! This month I signed up to Canva to see if you really can make a good logo for free. Do you use Canva? Let me know in the comments whether it works for you! https://www.origamigraphics.net/post/canva-free-logo-maker

01.01.2022 Come see my client Ben Batros play at Smith's tonight. I'll be there!

01.01.2022 I recently had the pleasure of working on these stunning personal planners by Brisbane psychologist Nicole Brown. The Momentous Planners duo is aimed at helping people achieve their dreams by breaking their days, weeks, months and years up into manageable and rewarding chunks. Nicole created these all by herself, but employed me to create a style guide and redevelop the interior to match in font, line and colour. The results are gorgeous, and you can preorder your own planner for 2020 at momentousplanners.com (I just did!).
