Dr Gillian Courtice is a biological scientist who spent 20 years as an academic in Sydney before moving to the mid north coast in 1995. She and her husband set up an environmental consulting business and spent a great deal of time crawling through the bush surveying the local flora and fauna, hauling nets through the local waterways as well as running educational workshops for children and adults ...based on the local environment. These workshops started at Pacific Palms Public School which her children attended and she is still grateful to the support she received from Ken Pares, the Principal of the school at that time and the instigator of this Art Festival.
