19.01.2022 UBER. Some future guests have asked if there's an Uber service in Naracoorte. They want to travel to and from Apsley a couple of times on a weekend. Please tell me if you know of an Uber driver and contact details.
18.01.2022 At last! Very pleased to see a new brown-and-white sign, just north of Keith, promoting the 3 wine regions of the Limestone Coast, especially the under-promoted Wrattonbully wine region surrounding Naracoorte. Congratulations to the powers-that-be. Although...if I'd written the sign, I would have put them in order of distance, along the lines of PADTHAWAY 63... WRATTONBULLY 110 COONAWARRA 150 See more
15.01.2022 Wine buyers look forward to the annual James Halliday's Top 100 in the Weekend Australian Magazine. What a shame, today, that only one wine in the Top 100, out of 1600+ bottles submitted, came from the whole of the Limestone Coast! Well done to Balnaves of Coonawarra for being the region's sole representative in the Top 100 with its 2015 The Blend (merlot and cabernet sauvignon). A great pity to see no mention of wines from Padthaway, Wrattonbully, Mount Benson, Robe etc. Never mind, visitors to Naracoorte Cottages are still able to enjoy a complimentary 750ml bottle of Limestone Coast wine with every booking a tradition we established more than 25 years ago.

08.01.2022 $14.6 million Penola Northern Bypass Road. Great news that this bypass road, so long planned, is finally going to be built. The SA Government expects to award the contract in the last quarter of this year. When built, it's going to provide a quicker and seamless route around the town, which is good news for traffic between Naracoorte and Mount Gambier. ... Maybe people from the Mount, as well as visitors, will be tempted to visit Coonawarra cellar doors more often and even to drive further north to visit the Caves and sample the attractions of Naracoorte town, including shopping! The Penola Northern Bypass is part of a commitment to deliver a complete bypass of Penola town, which is a joint initiative of the Australian and SA Governments and Wattle Range Council. It will continue the Penola Southern Bypass, from Robe Road to the Riddoch Highway, just north of the Penola Township. The project includes: Construction of a new 2.2km undivided, sealed rural arterial road with sealed shoulders. A new T-junction at the Riddoch Highway (Church Street) where the new Northern Bypass will connect to the hjghway to the north of the Penola town. Upgrade of the junction at the Penola Bypass and the Robe to Clay Wells Road (where the Northern Bypass and Southern Bypass meet) to a staggered T-junction.
07.01.2022 While the weather's been running very hot and very cold, it's great to see the Naracoorte Swimming Lake is open earlier than usual. So lots of free fun available in clean, clear, reticulated and chlorinated water, paddling beach, lawns and shady trees. Note that the lake will be closed for swimming all day on Saturday, November 24, and until 12 noon on Sunday, November 25, for the Taskforce 72 National Annual Regatta. But you're welcome to watch free.

04.01.2022 Warmest congratulations to Naracoorte Caves National Park for winning Silver at the South Australian Tourism Awards in Adelaide last night. The park was runner-up in the category for Excellence in Accessible Tourism (the Gold winner was Big4 Renmark Riverfront Holiday Park). Well done to all the friendly and knowledgeable staff at the Naracoorte Caves. Visitors in wheelchairs can access the Wonambi Fossil Centre, with its robotic megafauna, and the Bat Observation Centre as well as the scrumptious Caves Café and Wirreanda Bunkhouse. You can also get around the campground, picnic areas and barbecues and the many above-ground trails.

03.01.2022 Naracoorte does adventure tourism too! Great news that Adelaide is hosting the 25th annual World Routes conference and will host the Adventure Travel World Summit in October 2020 (Sunday Mail 22/9/19). Not so great is that our Tourism Ministers neglected to mention the unique Adventure Caving experiences in Naracoorte Caves National Park. Simon Birmingham extols "shark diving in Port Lincoln, mountain biking in the Flinders Ranges (and) sandboarding on Kangaroo Island" and David Ridgway cites "the Flinders Ranges and Outback, Riverland and Eyre Peninsula". This is a friendly reminder to the budding Indiana Joneses and adventure seekers that you can also find thrills at South Australia's only World Heritage site...in Naracoorte!
03.01.2022 PLAYGROUNDS ARE VITAL. Naracoorte is lucky to have good playgrounds, which are so important in attracting family visitors. Naracoorte Community Playground in Market Square has just had an upgrade and is more popular than ever, especially with the skate park next door. And the Fossil Hunters Playground at the World Heritage listed Naracoorte Caves National Park is a real hit with all ages.
