18.01.2022 St Kilda going green

17.01.2022 It's all 'go, go, go' at Bayside....Last weekend at Bicheno...and this weekend the Oktoberfest Mêlée....On reflection...perhaps two weekends of 'festivities' ha...s been too much, as there were some very 'muddled members' at the piste today.....Some members arrived at the right time...ready for the fray.....some members thought it was a shared lunch....and brought goodies, some members forgot about lunch altogether, some members came LATE....."what? we start at 1.00pm?".....well not today.......One lovely member thought it was the Melbourne Cup 'Fancy Hat' Mêlée and wore her finest....However.......Everyone had a wonderful day....Thanks to the new board for putting up the draw, given to Bayside by Claremont PC President Tas Mansfield, the scorers had a day without a mix-up.....That must be a record.... !! There was some controversy when the winner was announced...there were calls for a swab, a breath test, someone to check the scores and general disbelief.....as this stalwart member has not played for over six weeks.....(or has he secretly been practising???).....Hearty CONGRATULATIONS to Martin, who played brilliantly to win all three games, with an amazing delta score of +21.... Terry was second....but a long way behind Martin..with three games won and a delta of +14. Well done 'old boys'... Susanne was the winner of the 'Encouragement' award... Terry presented Anna and Simon with a bottle of wine for being the most successful Bayside players in the Crayboule Competition in Bicheno... And lastly....Peter W. won the Lucky Door prize.... In the midst of all this festivity Bayside welcomed a new member, Rachel....who watched the competition keenly.....Next time you will be in the comp. Rachel..... Thank you to all the members who set up and packed up...and Thank you Vanessa for taking the photos, and Anne for the photo of "Miss Melbourne Cup".... From the amount of noise on the piste, it was a very successful day...... And after the comp. was all over and done with.....members all played pétanque again....just for fun....Talk about pétanque tragic- one and all....

17.01.2022 The 8th Annual Alexanders Mixed Doubles Comp is done for 2020. We had a wonderful day, and a new set of winners. Congratulations to all players. We had a grea...t roll up, and with lots of cooperation, everything ran smoothly and on on time. The finals in both sections were great games to watch, with many points bringing applause from the crowd. Our winners are Adele and Graham. Big congratulations. The runners up are Heike and Hanan. Big Congratulations again. The Consolante section was also very well contested, and the winners are Robyn and Mark. Big congratulations to you both. The runners up are Jennifer and Rick. 09.01.2022 Important info for Clubs re COVID-19

08.01.2022 With the limit on numbers for gatherings under Covid-19 Level 2 increasing to 100 from tomorrow (Friday, 29 May) Club Days All Clubs will be able to resume regu...lar Club Days. It's still safety first though, so there will still need to be a few restrictions in place. However these should not affect play to any degree: * Hand sanitiser, or soap and hot water hand washing facilities, must be available. * Every person attending should sanitise their hands on arrival, and also preferably between games. * To enable contact tracing, the names of all people attending must be recorded. This can be electronically or hard copy. Phone numbers and addresses will be needed for any non-Club members (the Club will have these details for your members). * If plastic circles are used, they must be sanitised between games. * Each team should have their own cochonnet, with one member only responsible for throwing the cochonnet and picking it up between ends * Players should avoid picking up other's boules. Note that social distancing is not required (the requirement is one metre between groups), but of course you can play on alternate pistes if it is possible and people are more comfortable with this. You will also be able to socialise after games, again provided sensible precautions are taken. Competitions Inter-Club competitions can also be held, as long as the numbers limit is not breached, and other precautions taken as above. National Championships PNZ has not yet made any decision on National Championships in 2020 and 2021, as there are a number of other considerations to be taken into account for these events, both Covid-19 related (e.g. travel costs and availability), and internal issues such as timing and format. Regards Barbara Whittington Secretary

06.01.2022 Umpires and Umpiring Laurent Causse French Petanque tournament presenter wrote: For the last few weeks during the confinement social media has been alive and ru...nning hot. Lot of comments about Petanque, memories, championships, naming champions, great organisers and wonderful voluntaries finally all the ingredients to run successfully a beautiful competition but there is one thing that we shouldnt forget the UMPIRES. Like in all sports competitions, you need a responsible person to ensure the respect and application of the rules of the sport of petanque on the piste. Umpires are present to allow the games to be played in a fair and proper manner and at the same time to assist you, if all players should know the rules, a large number dont. Mixing with a lot of umpires nationally and internationally it is always a great pleasure to exchange and discuss rules and game situations as it allows discovery of new approaches and a better understanding of umpiring situation. Players, spectators I have a special request as it is very important for the growth of our favourite sport Respect the umpires It is disgraceful to see some people behaviour abusing the umpires, believing that they are above the rules. If you like Petanque, if you like the competitions that the organisers set up with great difficulties please show respect and have a good sporting attitude.
