06.01.2022 Hi everyone! I truly hope all of you are doing ok. I haven’t reached out too much lately on email or social media as it can all get a bit much and overwhelmin...g with all the news and public health updates. I did however think it necessary to focus on a very special positive and share that we’ve reached another milestone, celebrating 14 years since we began creating healthier communities in the central west. I would like to congratulate my team for positively influencing the health and lives of well over 20,000 people in our community since we opened our doors. I would like to thank you, our community, for letting us be part of your lives, a privilege that we are very grateful. The current public health challenge faced by Australians and the world at large has made life and health a topic of great interest, concern and action. It has brought our vulnerability as humans to the forefront of our minds and challenged us immensely in every aspect of how we live our lives. To many, it has caused great suffering, ill-health and loss of life. The disruption and devastation to people’s lives will never be forgotten in our family, our communities, and around the world. But to try and find some positives in the experience, especially when we are unsure of how long it will continue, it is a time to reflect on what we may learn to build stronger people and communities as we push on. What have we learned and what will we take forward to help us grow into stronger, healthier, and happier people? Personally, I have learnt that life and nature will always throw us challenges, many out of our control, and the effects of that threat, both in the short and long term will depend on the way we act as individuals and communities, working together to reduce the impact of the threat. Ultimately resulting in a balance between protecting the needs of one’s self or protecting the needs of others. Our community has a bigger effect on our lives than we think, and likewise, individuals have a large effect on our community. The pandemic makes this easier to conceptualise as we work together to reduce the risk of spreading a highly contagious and impactful virus. Imagine this same degree of coordination, support and media communication in managing our overall health and wellbeing; protecting us from the Chronic Diseases responsible for more than 90% of lives lost in Australia. This may be a bit heavy for a local physio/exercise physiologist to be discussing, but imagine if once the threat of Covid-19 does finally pass, we took some positive learnings from this situation and applied it to other parallel threats. A coordinated government, industry, and public led effort to create healthier communities. We’re ready to help. So as we go forward, stay safe and most importantly remember people need people, people need communities, we have changed how we conduct our lives and we may need to be social distanced for now but remember to reach out and support each other in other ways whilst our hands cannot be held. Help your community stay safe, healthy and happy and help us build stronger communities together.
