24.01.2022 Grand Designs on ABC Perth now. Building an accessible home. Wonder what the outcome will be? In my experience project builders tend to have difficulties with access features.

22.01.2022 Spent the morning with a ceiling hoist supplier. So excited about the functional, beautiful and minimal solutions weve come up with for my new builds and modifications in progress. 20.01.2022 I shared this video last year, but it was upside down and I had no idea how to edit it. I found that out this morning when sending through to a client so they could see how well a shower floor sheds water with the combination of a channel grate and a floor of the correct grade.

20.01.2022 This is so important. What about the people with disabilities? https://www.ohchr.org/EN/NewsEvents/Pages/DisplayNews.aspx

18.01.2022 I was approached to use photos of my modifications for an article published today on the evidence that well designed modifications can keep people in their home and can reduce their care needs. Pretty chuffed that my work was described in the process as beautifully designed. Those words didnt make the article, but still happy all the same. #HomeModifications #PerthOccupationalTherapist #OTPerth #ComplexHomeModifications #NDISOT

17.01.2022 He was really scared of my wheelchair when I met him. So it didnt seem like it was going to work out. But I had a soft spot for him. Ted was the smallest of h...is litter. He d been really sick and they didnt know if he was going to survive. The first time I went to meet him, I collapsed in his owners kitchen. But Ted wiggled over toward me and laid down on my chest. Everyone thought it was so cute. It was the first time Id ever had a health scare that turned into something positive-- so it seemed like it was meant to be. There are two options when you get an assistance dog. You can get a dog thats already been trained. Or you can train the dog yourselfand thats what I wanted to do. Because I needed something. I have this genetic disease. It weakens every part of my body, but it didnt get bad until my teenage years. So I had this wonderful life and then it was taken away. I was isolated from my friends for so long. I couldnt go to school. It reached a point where I couldnt see a reason to live anymore. I needed something to focus on besides my health. And Ted gave me that. He needed me and I needed him. I watched all the training videos I could find. I read all the books. I reached out to people and asked for help. It gave me a reason to talk to people again. I hadnt done that in so long. And I learned that I was good at training. Everything just flowed. From day oneweve been so in sync. He can fetch me anything. He helps me get undressed. He even watches me when I sleep, and wakes me up if Im having night terrors. My mom was having to help me with everything before I got Ted. And she loves me so much. But she has two other children, and I know she was getting so tired. But Ted doesnt get tired. He loves to help. Hes so excited to help. Hell pick up the same thing seventeen times. It makes him so happy. Hes my worldreally. He saved my life. He made me happy again. And he takes so much pressure off my family. He gives me a break from being the disabled child. From being the focus of everyones attention. He lets me be a daughter. And a big sister. He lets me be Chloe again. #quarantinestories

17.01.2022 *Squeal* So excited. @kmartaus have released a range of dolls with a disability. Much more affordable than the Barbie equivalent. I know where Im headed tomorrow. . . #OccupationalTherapy #ToyLikeMe #Inclusion #Diversity #PlanOT

16.01.2022 Its International Womens Day. Shout out to all the women in business, especially those in small business doing the juggle with their kids and actively making their best life possible. Its not always easy but the rewards outweigh the pitfalls. This bathroom, I worked very closely with a mother and daughter team. 16.01.2022 Its been a while since Ive posted, life has been pretty busy. This is a throwback to a new build I was involved with a couple of years ago. Lovely level threshold and accessible bathroom. 16.01.2022 Moved back into the office today. Also a change in location (within the office). Such a nice space to work. #OccupationalTherapyPerth #OTPerth #NDISOT #AccessOT #ComplexHomeModifications #ItsGoodToBeBack Image descriptor: Desk in open plan office with dual monitor.

15.01.2022 Shoulders. I talk to my clients about their shoulders often. I have seen people with the very real difficulty of shoulder injury in later life, requiring the need for additional assistance and assistive technology due to shoulder surgery. I am always thinking about shoulders and functional and appropriate use of the upper limb. Minimising risk of injury from the beginning is the key.

13.01.2022 Ive been working at my dining room table since the COVID 19 social distancing measures began. The table is too high and my tennis elbow flared pretty badly. I approached Liberty Flexible Workspaces, where I lease my office space. My request, can I please rent a desk and chair to bring home. No problem. I now have a corner of the dining room, hubby has the office. My elbow is still sore, but it will mend with a good setup. Shout out to Liberty for being so super supportive... of small business. Im loving my new office space. This is where the magic happens. #COVID19 #WorkFromHome #OccupationalTherapyPerth #OTPerth #NDISOT Image descriptor: work desk set up in corner of room. 13.01.2022 I stumbled across this sexy commode last night when I was trolling my socials. Hallelujah! A chair to suit more active users, because what you use in the shower matters too. Its called a Flyta Active Shower Chair. I know nothing more than that, but managed to find the Perth rep and will be checking it out soon. While it wont be suitable for everyone, how lovely is choice. . #PerthOccupationalTherapy #NDISOT #PerthOT #SexyCommode #SexyAT #AssistiveTechnology #OTPerth #OccupationalTherapyPerth #GoodLookingSolutions . 13.01.2022 Putting some feelers out, would any WA OTs be interested in some home mods education while we're all in lockdown? Happy to spend a couple of hours online, or to run through a complex mod that I've done. Maybe in a week or two?? It'll be free, provided I can source a platform that will host free (I have my kids running on Discord, so that might be ok). I think we need to #stayconnected Let me know. Comment, like, share or drop me a PM. ... ~Claire

13.01.2022 When things go wrong. My first time ordering a Smoov power assist and on delivery the Smoov and the anti tippers on the chair were not compatible, meaning that the drive wheel could not turn past the lock nut on the anti tippers. The chair and Smoov were ordered at the same time, so it wasnt picked up in trials as its a custom chair. Supplier manufactured a part for the chair and its now working a treat. My client is now building confidence to use this nifty power assist... for their manual wheelchair. Lesson learned, check this device with narrow seat widths and anti tippers. #WhereTheresAWillTheresAWay #OccupationalTherapy #OccupationalTherapyPerth #OccupationalTherapistPerth #OTPerth #NDISOT #AssistiveTechnology #Smoov Image descriptors: 1. photo of Smoov power assist hitting anti tippers on rear of wheelchair 2. 12.01.2022 One of my tasks today was to find a brick that matched an old 1970s house where were changing the window as a part of the clients complex home modifications. Was in at Midland Brick and noticed this very nice accessible height counter. Didnt find a match, but the man who assisted me was very helpful. I know a lot more about bricks than I did when I woke up this morning. #HomeModifications #HomeModificationsPerth #ComplexHomeMods #NDIS #NDISOT #AccessOTPerth #AccessOT Image descriptor: Red brick reception desk. 08.01.2022 Wow, what an opportunity. Motum never cease to impress me. Pity it's parent teacher day at my kids' school otherwise I'd be there with bells on! Thank you for supporting your referring community. Any WA based OTs out there, get onto this.

07.01.2022 Another successful modification. Theres sufficient space in this small bathroom to complete a 360 degree turn in a shower commode, which may be a reality for my client in the future. 06.01.2022 There continues to be kindness amongst all of this fear. Be your best self during this unprecedented time and remember those less fortunate or able than yourself. I am continuing to see clients while maintaining good hand and overall hygiene practices. Should WA get the direction to self isolate, I will be offering sessions via Zoom, but this is a little tricky when the bulk of my work is complex home modifications and AT prescription. I kind of need to see you and your environment. Most of all I want to make sure we all look out for ourselves, our neighbours and our community. Show kindness and compassion.

06.01.2022 An update on Planot services in the light of COVID 19. At this stage, I'm still up and running for business; Occupational Therapy remains in the essential services category. In order to minimise risk, I'm working from home (so excuse the sound of children in the background if you call). I am keeping visits to a minimum and am making the switch over to Telehealth. When I do see you, please be assured that I am maintaining all safe hygiene practices as directed by WHO and th...e Health Department of WA. Not only do I want to keep you safe, but I have a family that I'd like to keep safe too. Like for any small business, this is a trying time. I hope you all manage to stay well and I look forward to things returning to normal, hopefully sooner rather than later. ~Claire.

03.01.2022 Before and after shots of an ambulant bathroom design. The home owner has thought about the prospect of ageing in place and removing barriers to independent access.
