10.02.2022 Winter oil sprays are safe and reliable / don’t forget your Plant Mates Spraying roses and deciduous fruit trees with a traditional winter oil spray provides home gardeners with a safe and effective method of controlling a wide range of summer-active insects. Winter oils (also referred to as dormant oils) are non-toxic and designed to be used on roses and deciduous fruit trees while they are dormant. As an insecticide they are very effective in killing a range of hard-to-co...ntrol summer-active garden pests such as mites, scale, aphids and white fly, while they are overwintering on plants. However, dormant oils have no adverse effect on beneficial insects such as ladybird beetles, lacewings and hover flies as they are not usually present on dormant trees and shrubs during winter. This soft option is particularly important for organic gardeners. Avoiding chemical confusion Winter or dormant oils should not be applied to roses or fruit trees #nurserysa #gardeningsa #thinkwateradelaide #landscapingideas #landscapingaustralia

07.02.2022 The appeal of home-grown fruits Trees. Don’t forget your Plant Mates. plantmate.com.au Apples, plums, peaches and apricots are just some of the many deciduous fruit trees that grow so well in gardens. Because these fruit trees are deciduous they will remain dormant through winter as such they can be planted any time over the next 8 to 10 weeks without the usual setback associated with establishing new plants.#landscapes #landscaping #nurseryandgardenindustrysa #thinkwateradelaide #masterlandscaperssa

24.01.2022 atering priority this weekend with Plant Mate Spend a little time this weekend checking on moisture levels in different garden locations. You may be surprised at how little soil moisture is left below the surface. While the magic elixir both before and after a heatwave is water, to be of benefit moisture must soak well below the surface and, if possible, right through the plants' root zone with Plant Mate.... lawns 2 to 10 cm leafy vegetables 5 to 15 cm tall vegetables and small shrubs 5 to 20 cm large shrubs and trees 10 to 30 cm.#gardeningaustraliamag #australiangardens #wateraidaustralia #salandscapers #sanurseryassociation

24.01.2022 Act now to prevent fungal problems in spring Deciduous fruit trees that were troubled with fungal problems this season should be sprayed very soon with a copper-based fungicide such as liquid copper or copper hydroxide. Wait until 80 percent of the leaves have fallen then spray the tree making sure the material soaks into the trees cracks and crevices. This will play a major role in preventing the carryover of fungal diseases, particularly curl leaf on stone fruits, next season. Don’t Forget your Plant Mates for Mothers Day.

23.01.2022 Easter a great time for planting If you are thinking of growing vegetables, herbs or flowering annuals over the Easter break take heart, as planting conditions are ideal but not for long. Topsoil temperatures dropped 2 to 3C in the past week and are currently fluctuating between 16 and 18C. While this will encourage quick establishment, growth will slow considerably once temperatures drop consistently below 16C. Plus Ground is soft please retro fit your plant mates to trees and shrubs.

21.01.2022 Planting time don’t delay Don’t Forget Your Plant Mates Right now soil temperatures are ideal for planting at 22 to 25C. But they will not remain like this for long, dropping on average 4C each month during autumn. As a general guide, most warm-season plants need soil temperatures above 15C to maintain strong, active growth #thinkwater #sagardens #adelaidegardeners #adelaidelandscaping #australiagarden

19.01.2022 Garden soils drying rapidly. Use Plant Mates It’s almost six weeks since early February’s widespread rain and the soil in many gardens is now very dry. Should be using Plant Mates. While evergreen trees and shrubs should not be overstimulated with water (or fertiliser), make sure the soil around their roots is kept adequately moist. This is particularly important for fruiting evergreens, such as citrus, as their fruit size is expanding rapidly as a prelude to harvest. If the soil under citrus trees is dry and moisture is suddenly added, (heavy rain, irrigation) many of the fruits will split.

11.01.2022 Running on empty and the Heat use Plant Mates for help. Keen gardeners who like to check the soil before they re-water were surprised at how quickly the topsoil dried out both from containers and gardens. This is not surprising. When temperatures climb into the 40s, plants with a healthy root system use every drop of moisture just to keep cool. It’s worth adding Plant Mates... Plants with healthy roots (in the right location) that are well watered before the heat sets in will suffer little if any damage.#australianheatwave #australiaheat #salandscapers #sagardens #thinkwater #nurseryassociation

03.01.2022 Adelaide’s weather up and down. Plant Mate consistant. #adelaidegardening #adelaidelandscapers #sanurseryassociation #sanurseryandgardenindustry #thinkwater The likelihood of further heatwave weather through February is now low, according to Adelaide climatologist, Darren Ray. Darren expects February temperatures to remain warmer than average, particularly later in the month, and at times to climb well into the 30s. But the risk of extended, heat-damaging weather is unlikely. This provides experienced gardeners with an excellent opportunity to establish a late planting. With a significantly reduced risk of losing new plants through transplant shock and heat stress especially when using Plant Mates.

01.01.2022 Preparation before planting is well worthwhile and using Plant Mate. If you are planting trees and shrubs keep in mind they will be expected to perform in the same location for many years. It will pay big dividends if you can spend a little extra time preparing the ground before you plant. Loosen the soil around each planting site for at least half a metre and to a depth of 20 cm if possible 30 cm.... Regardless of whether the soil is sandy or a clay loam incorporate a 5 to 10 cm layer of aged animal manure or compost into the topsoil If the soil is hard setting (clay or clay loam) also incorporate gypsum (1 kg to the square metre). This can be spread with the animal manure or compost. Plus add one Plant Mate per Tree or Shrub. See more
