22.01.2022 Brilliant article! Winning Or Losing: How To Handle A Bad Sport You’ve been on the sidelines of the netball court (or soccer pitch, etc) cheering and encouraging. You’ve avoided saying anything about the shoddy refereeing being done by the 15-year-old. You’ve ridden the emotions of your child’s game as they’ve had a go, become bored, let the ball go past, or maybe even scored for the team. And you’ve done it all because you believe organised sport is good for your kids. It...Continue reading

20.01.2022 Update COVID - 19 Please note that Basketball in Poowong will continue tonight. Basketball Victoria has made the decision to suspend Basketball Victoria related programs, events and leagues from now March 13, until further notice. This decision has been made due to the following advice handed to us from Basketball Victoria. We will keep everyone up to date as this situation is regularly changing. ... Please stay safe and follow all advice given out by Health and Government Authorities. 12.01.2022 Well done to the Under 14 Boys and coach Prue Blackwood on another excellent team effort at the Warragul Junior Tournament. They won 3 games but a draw with Morwell meant they just missed out on getting into the finals due to percentages. Good luck to the other teams in the finals, looking forward to a report back and photos.

06.01.2022 Poowong & District Amateur Basketball Association is pleased to announce that following our AGM we have a fresh committee with lots of great ideas and enthusiasm for the future. We're looking forward to once again being a hub for families, fun and fitness for our community. We're getting the ball rolling with a call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from those willing to coach a tournament team. If you would like the opportunity to coach a tournament team for the remainder of the 20/21 season please send your EOI to [email protected] by Monday 14th December. Further to that, keep an eye out for Autumn 2021 season registrations in the new year and some new opportunities we hope to deliver down the track.

06.01.2022 Yesterday, the Victorian Government made announcements relating to the easing of restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this included allowing people to par...ticipate in outdoor activities or train in community sport in groups of up to 10 people (plus a coach / supervisor). Basketball Victoria supports this approach, as it recognises that sport and exercise play a critical role in the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of Victorians, but importantly this must be balanced with the risk of transmitting coronavirus. While this provides an opportunity for many of us to get back into participating in basketball outside of our home environment, Basketball Victoria wants to emphasise that how we all collectively act in the coming weeks will directly affect the health of our community and our sports ability to return to more regular indoor activity in the near future. We are being provided an opportunity to enjoy a level of sport and exercise outdoors in the short term, but we must not compromise safety, nor the reputation of the sport at this vitally important time. For those wishing to participate outdoors we suggest you refer to Basketball Victoria’s Outdoor Training Guidelines that have been developed in line with government restrictions and the AIS Framework for Rebooting Sport. Should you choose to participate outdoors, have fun, but please do so in a safe and respectful manner. For a full update and guidance on outdoor activity / training - please visit http://basketballvictoria.com.au/covid-19/
