19.01.2022 Some of the action from tonight’s Wollongong Day Surgery Girls League between Wests Illawarra and Port Kembla Possums!

18.01.2022 Another fantastic game of cricket was played in the Wollongong Day Surgery Girls League, when Wests Illawarra took on Port Kembla Possums at Roy Johanson Oval. The teams were very evenly matched and it was great cricket all round! Both teams were short on players but we were lucky enough to have Grace Hill and Saige Gelhaar help both teams out. Port Possums were the eventual winners with 4-151 to Wests 3-132. ... There were some great batting performances with Amelia Valdez 47 off 24, Charli Garbutt 41 off 24, Grace Hill 39, Eden Neich 26, Saige Gelhaar 14 and Lucy Yates 13. In just a short time, it is pleasing to see such a big improvement in bowling with far less sundries. Kirra Smyth, Saige Gehlhaar and Charli Garbutt picked up wickets for Wests and Bella McGhee really improved her bowling as the game progressed. Amelia Valdez and Grace Hill picked up wickets for Port and Jasmyn Mayne and Stevie-Lee Yates ran really well between the wickets. The game was played in great spirits and everyone gave it their best! Great effort girls!!

06.01.2022 It finally came on the hottest of days and after the longest of games...victory to the mighty Port Kembla Fourth Grade team!! After scoring more runs than their three previous games combined, Port put 178 runs on the board. Great batting performances from Bruno Ladic (53), Chris Meizer (42) and Mitch Herzog (37). Great bowling and fielding from the whole team! Mitch took 3-17 off 9, Colin Russel taking a wicket and Chris, Jack and Mark taking 2 wickets each. Craig Johnson go...t his highest ever score of 10 including 2 fours and Bob Caldwell took two screamers in slips! A big thank you to Matthew Binou and Rynan Russell, for backing up after their junior game. Great effort boys, you will sleep well tonight! In the end, the game was played in great spirits, in tough conditions with fantastic sportsmanship shown from both teams. So when all the WAGS were at home wondering where the boys were because they are usually home just after lunch, (probably thinking they had ducked off to the club to sink a few coldies) they were actually playing cricket until 6.30pm! Great effort today team, well deserved! I hope the rehydration is going well and I know you will all sleep well!! Up the mighty Blacks!!!

04.01.2022 Port Kembla Black U11’s played Dapto Canaries in a close match, at Darcy Wentworth. Port were 132 to Dapto’s 123. The game came down to the last over! We had some great performances and some first milestones for our new players. We took 13 wickets which was really pleasing. Amelia took 3, Ella took 2 and Logan, Aston and Samuel took a wicket each! Lily James took her first ever wicket! In our batting we had some good performances with Ella scoring 13 no, Ben 12 and Aston 8 no all of 15 balls. It was great to see Samuel hit his first 4 today! Everyone played a great part in the win, it was a real team effort! Thanks to Jack for umpiring and encouraging the players. The game was played in great spirits and it was great to have a real even battle! Cricket was the winner. Enjoy the break and have a great Christmas!

03.01.2022 Port Kembla’s U11 Black, went down to ND Blue, at a very hot oval in the bush at Austinmer. ND 9-151 to Port’s 6-103. We showed a great effort with our bowling and fielding, with everyone showing a great improvement! Lily and Ekysha showed a great improvement with their bowling today and were getting the ball down the pitch. Samuel took his first ever wicket with a clean bowl and Ben, Lucy and Aston also took wickets. Amelia took a wicket and was sharp in the field! Ella took 4 wickets for 7 runs off 3 overs and is on a hat trick ball next game. Aston batted beautifully with 16 off 15, including 3 great 4s.
