20.01.2022 We don't normally promote the G-Word (grass) in gardens but occasionally there is a circumstance when it's appropriate and we have one spot in the garden we keep an eye on. When these two patches of grass finally meet the world isn't ready for the volume of "woohoos" and "we did it" screams from the market. Who said watching grass grow wasn't exciting?

17.01.2022 Okay, so on Apocalyptic-prelockdown-Wedndesday I decided to do a botched stocktake whilst the sun was setting and 20,000 mosquitoes descended on me. Here's the full list of our fruiting trees, shrubs, vines and other stuff in this section. Some things we have lots of like our fruiting vines and some like the avos are down to the last one. Follow the rest of my posts for the seedlings, seeds and all the things we have right now. @ Port Adelaide Food Gardening

12.01.2022 I guess it's that time to reintroduce the terracotta self watering spikes! So incase you didn't realise but it was 40,000 degrees today. Fortunately this pot of parsley was fine because it has one of these terracotta spikes slowly wicking out water from the old wine bottle into the soil. These spikes are a form of Ollas, except instead of a clay pot the spike + bottle combo does the trick. ... They're $10 each and it takes roughly 4 days for the bottle to empty but if it's a scorcher like today it might drink it up quicker to keep up. Basically drink wine, get terracotta spike and save the world. We're open tomorrow 9am - 1pm @ Port Adelaide Food Gardening

11.01.2022 @thebanksiatree have been using our display #foodcube for 6+months now to grow bushfoods like native mint, native thyme, Warrigal greens and sea celery for their kitchen. Check out their amazing menu with local seasonal produce and these herbies.

08.01.2022 I get a lot of people asking me "do you sell Ginger or Turmeric Plants?" My response is always: "No, but have you heard of Galangal?"... If you haven't Galangal is another edible rhizomateous plant that produces one of the most unique flavoured rhizomes. So unique it's the prime ingredient in Tom Yum soup! The plant is also a beautiful looking long shoot. Galangal does a lot better in our Adelaide climate in comparison to ginger and turmeric which prefer a more subtropical to tropical climate. Theres a lot of varieties of Galangals and at the moment we have the red thai galangal (pictured) and the smaller lesser galangal (not pictured). I actually had to grow this one in partnership with @deepcreekorganics because it's virtually impossible to get it in bulk. All pots are $9 each and ready to grow!

05.01.2022 Plant of the weekend: Sweet apple berry (Billardiera cymosa) Is a native fruiting climber that is one of my personal favourites. Grows best in part shade and does require a trellis or something to climb up. Grows great in a pot or in a hanging basket.... The fruit is similar size to a small grape and is delicate, delicious and distinctly unique. It has a sort of cinnamony-appley taste but it's in its own category. I've found that the growth isn't straight and likes to weave around, it also isnt very dense or intense, so it's easy to train. It grows roughly 50cm high and wide full-size. We have stacks of $8 140mm pots and this will hopefully stay as a constant menber in our plant nursery repertoire.
