19.01.2022 Yesterday was World Bee Day! We learnt about all the important jobs that the queen bee, drones and worker bees do inside and outside the hive. We explored the native bees that live in Victoria and built a bee hotel with nesting material that would encourage them to live in our school. The bee hotel will be installed in our wildlife corridor. There was also lots of craft creations! #worldbeeday #portlandnorthprimaryschool... #stephaniealexanderkitchengardenprogram See more

18.01.2022 Today our students took part in the National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS). This annual event aims to engage children of all ages to enjoy books by creating a sense of excitement around reading. Over 1 MILLION kids across Australia and New Zealand were read ‘Give Me Some Space’ written by Phillip Bunting today. Students at PNPS had it read to them by an astronaut aboard the International Space Station! It was thrilling to watch the book float in space . We also logged our location and current temperature with the space station.

18.01.2022 Our Hands on Learning team were super productive today! The children assembled wicking garden beds in the fairy garden. Wicking beds water plants from below rather than above. Our garden beds have a water reservoirs at the base. Moisture is drawn up through the soil via a process called ‘wicking’. This allows moisture to be more evenly distributed through the soil, creating better growing conditions for the plants. There were lots of skills used including sawing, drilling, sh...ovelling, planting and watering. Thank you to Wannon Water, Hammonds Portland and the Portland Community Garden for your support. #wannonwater #hammondsportland #portlandcommunitygarden See more

13.01.2022 BOOK FAIR 2020 This year’s fair will be a little different. We have a wonderful selection of books available for the students to browse in class groups during the week. Students will then bring home a ‘wish list’ of books they would like to purchase. However, remember this is just your child’s ‘wish list’ and there is no pressure on you to buy. If you would like to purchase any of the books, you may then go online and make your purchase (web address on the wish list) scholastic.com.au/payment Students then bring the receipt number into school and the books will be given to students. If the book is sold out at the PNPS Book Fair another will be ordered in.

12.01.2022 Here is a snapshot of our Grotti Lotti inspired birds. We have spent this term learning about Casey Manson (aka Grotti Lotti). We have looked at her techniques and art work and then created our own, using her as inspiration. We used watercolors, watercolour paper and posca pens. We have also looked at shapes, patterns and lines. I am impressed kids! Stay tuned for more. Mrs Saunders

06.01.2022 Spring is always a busy time in the garden and this week Miss Brown and Mrs Furneaux classes were as busy as bees in a flower patch! The Grade 4’s updated the chicken pen (thanks Cohen Peatling for your knowledge and leadership skills), made plant guards, potted up tomatoes, planted dahlias and beans, weeded and tidied up the shade houses. The Grade 4/5’s created harvest bags filled with beautiful fresh produce from our garden and farm. They collected eggs, harvested ...silverbeet, kale, broad beans and peas. They also created flower and herb posies! Names were pulled out of a hat and one student from each class won a bag for their family to enjoy!
