25.01.2022 Every week here at Possums is amazing but this week was extra special and its only Wednesday!! At the start of the week a lovely parent brang in some beautiful sunflowers which not only brighten our front entrance but definitely our days and today Dee and Tammy received some very beautiful earrings from a beautiful little boy just to say thank you! The smallest of gestures can really brighten someones day!
24.01.2022 I just applied for this for Possums. Thinking an outdoor learning environment would be great. Parents and staff feel free to add extra applications and just put my name as contact person and the landline as contact number. Regards Romola

23.01.2022 Possums location, in the heart of town, allows us the opportunity to explore many venues in Wagga Wagga Tuesday the 11th of June, we went on our way to explore Livs place. This was a fun way for children, to explore their community and the world around them.
21.01.2022 Thankyou to everyone, who gave their time, in our winter working bee. Much was accomplished, such as new beginnings of a face lift to the front of the centre, eg; painting, line marking and gardening. Also to our indoor helpers, and the lovely ladies, that kept us all going, with delicious foods.
21.01.2022 Gardening is a healthy, fun activity for children. Children develop new skills and learn about science and nature from growing their own food. There is a variety of interesting activities children can be involved in, such as planting, mulching, weeding and cooking.
21.01.2022 How lucky are the nursery children to have an area for them to play in rain, hail or shine the educators have called it the Caterpiller sunroom
20.01.2022 Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) Fundamental movement skills are a specific set of skills that involve different body parts such as feet, legs, trunk, head, arms and hands. These skills are the building blocks for more complex and specialised skills that kids will need throughout their lives to competently participate in different games, sports and recreational activities. FMS are a favourite part of our day.
19.01.2022 LETS COUNT- Children in Australias most disadvantaged communities start school already behind. Children who start school behind in maths generally stay behind, Numeracy is a foundation skill for successful participation in our society individuals need it for budgeting, taking medication and employment. The STEM disciplines science, technology, engineering, and mathematics - are key underpinnings for the future of innovative economies, with an increased global reliance ...on these knowledge areas,at Possums childcare, each child has access, to the The Lets Count program. Lets count program is an evidence based , fully evaluated early mathematics program for children aged three to five, developed by the Smith Family and Professor Bob Perry and Associate Professor Ann Gervasoni. 17.01.2022 Simultaneous story time. Simultaneous story time is run every year. At 11am all schools, preschools, day carers etc read the same book at the same time. This year we had the privilege of having Miss Wagga- Stina Constantine come and read for us. She read this years book Alpacas with Maracas by Matt Cosgrove. The children all seemed to enjoy the story asking Stina to read it again. The second time around the children joined in with maracas. Afterwards the children enjoyed some colouring in about the book and to follow on we will be making some maracas. Thankyou to Leonie, for encouraging, such great events, and who also works tiresly, with the running of book club.

16.01.2022 Dear Families, As some of you may know Woolworths has introduce the discovery gardens which are seedling kits. With Dee already leading Gardening at the service we think these little kits will be a brilliant addition to our current gardening projects, as they will certainly be able to enhance this area if we are able to get lots more little plants. So if any families wish to donate these to Possums we will happily use them with the children!! We also want to make a special m...ention to Woolworths Central for regularly donating fruit every week which has enabled us to promote our Crunch and Sip morning tea time as the extra injection of fruit helps to give the children more to enjoy. Good on Woolworths for introducing a scheme that encourages health eating, is no increasing plastic waste and helps kids start to love the becoming gardeners.
16.01.2022 Celebrating NAIDOC week at Possums, we began by promoting OUR sense of belonging. When a child has a sense of belonging they are more confident, feel more secure, be more creative and more likely to explore the world of learning. Firstly we began, with the collection of rocks and sand from outdoors. We then placed the big book of Australia on the table and we talked about the picture on front of the book, which was Australia, by discussing the image, we began to create our... own Australia by using the rocks, we made an outline, of Australia, then filled this in with sand, we also added red powder to represent Uluru and animals native to Australia, such as dingoes, kangaroos, koalas etc. This lead to further discussions, such as what state, town and street we live in. Jace said he comes from a house, Billie, said she comes from (and named her street), Hunter said he comes from down the corner. This was a great learning experience, and we will continue to further develop childrens knowledge, in this area. See more
