23.01.2022 Quick review of our Tipping contest - Round 9 Okay quicker than ever before. After all, Round 10 began last night. Round 9 started with Richmond flogging the Bulldogs on Wednesday evening. Sadly, Chris Smart was late getting his tip in and Ebony, Pat and Neil trusted the Bulldogs to continue the Tigers Premiership hangover. The rest of us tipped the Tigers. Well done.... Thursday showed just how lack lustre the Dees could be. This time it was Port Adelaide’s turn to humiliate the clueless Melbourne side. Everyone, except Michelle and Neil got this game tipped correctly. As Dave has been heard to say Tip against Clarkson at your peril. That is what all but Dave did on Friday evening. The Hawks were well down at quarter time but put the Blues to the sword from then on. Well done Dave. Saturday opened up with the football lesson handed to the Bombers by the (surely) flag favourites, Brisbane. Nathan tipped the wrong way in supporting his beloved Essendon. That afternoon Adelaide’s horror 2020 season stayed true to form as the Kangaroos culled the Crows. We all tipped this one, as we should have. Another result we mostly tipped truly was St. Kilda’s win over the Swans. Michelle has learned that whenever she tips her Saints, they lose. So, her tipping the Swans was a community service to ensure the rest of us were right. Go Saints. Over in the West the Eagles were too strong for the Geelong Cats. It was all Cats to time and then the Eagles outran them. All but Nathan tipped correctly. Sunday brought us all one tip only. The GWS beat the Suns easily, just as we all tipped. Then the Magpies let us all down by getting beaten by the Dockers. Dave was top tipster with 8. Fran , Seona, Suzy and Chris Lethlean all scored 7. Ebony, Pat and Chris Smart got 6 right and Michelle, Nathan and Neil got 5. This means Fran and Suzy are locked together on top of our tipping ladder with 52. Chris Lethlean and Dave hold second place with 51. Chris Smart stays on the podium in third with 50. Then it gets a little more spread out. Pat has 49, Seona has 48, Neil is on 47, Ebony has 46, Michelle is on 42 and Nathan has 40. As I said, Round 10 has already begun. And the second game of that round is being played tonight (Richmond Vs Lions at 7:10pm). Get those tips in and good luck. Neil

20.01.2022 Prompt Footing Tipping - final round and results The Port Adelaide Power beat Collingwood last night in the last game of the 2020 Home and Away Season. We now know, for certain, the make up of the finals and the winners of our Tipping competition. The final round of this most unusual home and away season got underway last Thursday on the Gold Coast. The Kangaroos got off to a powerful start against the West Coast Eagles, keeping them scoreless in the first quarter. But the Ea...Continue reading

17.01.2022 Prompt Footy Tipping 2021 Round 11 in review Well, no one tipped 9 correct this week, and it is no surprise. Friday evening’s clash between the Dees and the Bulldogs was a real top of the ladder contest. And it showed in the way both teams played. But it was the Demons who overcame last round’s narrow defeat at the hands of the Adelaide Crows to lead at every break and take the victory over a hard charging opponent. Keeping the Bulldogs goalless in the third term certainly ...Continue reading

17.01.2022 Prompt Footy Tipping 2021 Round 10 in review Right everything is a bit up in the air for the coming week. Tip all games anyway. Round 10, if nothing else, proved the power of a home crowd and of the noise of affirmation on AFL Umpires. Sigh. But, at least I’m not bitter....Continue reading

17.01.2022 Prompt Footy Tipping - Round 10 2020 is getting crazier and crazier. It is hard to keep up with where one round finishes, and the next starts. Round 11 began on Saturday but let’s look at the wash up of round 10. It all started on Monday last week at the Adelaide Oval. Port Adelaide took on the Western Bulldogs. There is a good reason why Port are on top of the ladder. They took a 21 point win keeping the Bulldogs scoreless in the final quarter. Suzy was too late to get her t...Continue reading

16.01.2022 Prompt Footy Tipping Round 8 review Okay this has to be real quick. The next round starts tomorrow (Wednesday 29th July) and footy is going to be an everyday occurrence for the next three weeks. So, no time for a bitter rant this week. Last Thursday evening Metricon Stadium was treated to a close game between the Gold Coast Suns and the Western bulldogs. While the Suns had more Inside 50 action they couldn’t capitalise on it and the Bulldogs recorded their 5th win from th...Continue reading

16.01.2022 Prompt Footy Tipping - Round 16 in review Round 16 was almost normal, except for having only 8 games and being spread from Saturday to Wednesday evening. Okay not normal at all. But those 8 games gave us some interesting tipping results. Back on Saturday, 5th Sept, the Kangaroos hosted the ladder leaders (Port Adelaide Power) at Metricon. And they got flogged! Aside from an excellent defensive effort in the second quarter (where North Melbourne kept the Power to just 3 behi...Continue reading

16.01.2022 Prompt Footy Tipping - Round 12 in review Phew that was a lot of football in a short time. Three weeks of games every single day. We could barely keep up with the tips. But now we have a couple of days to sit back and reflect on Round 12 of the 2020 season. The Battle of the Bridge is the title of the game between the two Sydney based teams, the Swans and the Giants. This season the game was played in Perth last Thursday evening (Melbourne time). We all KNEW that, on past p...Continue reading

15.01.2022 Prompt Footy Tipping - Round 15 2020 Round 15 of the 2020 season had only 6 games and started on Tuesday last week. Let’s review the round and our tipping. The first of the two Tuesday games was in Adelaide, where the Hawks hosted the Crows at 5:40pm. Not just the timing was nuts. The previously win-less Crows knocked over the happy team by just under 6 goals. From the outset the Crows dominated play and all but Nathan were stunned. For reasons that are yet to be explained ...Continue reading

14.01.2022 Prompt Footy Tipping 2021 Round 7 in review Real quick this round. I was away from the desk too long and time is tight. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHq4laFwAEM) Friday evening saw Dave Coath almost lifted to the status of Prophet when the wounded, underrated Tigers took on the ladder leading Bulldogs. Dave has always said tip against Richmond at your peril. He was right, but still joined all but Fran and Chris Smart in tipping against the Tigers. A tough lesson for...Continue reading

12.01.2022 Prompt Footy Tipping 2021 Round 8 in review While I was on leave in King Island (amazing place, overrun with Tamar Wallabies and they have the BEST Cheese) I surreptitiously kept track of the scores on my phone. It was certainly an interesting set of games. The drama began on Friday evening when the Tigers hosted the Geelong Cats at the MCG. I always believed two things: The Cats don’t play the G as well as they do Kardinia Park, and you tip against the Tigers at your peril...Continue reading

12.01.2022 Prompt Footy Tipping Round 7 2020 To use a phrase that I like to attribute to my brother, the 2020 AFL season is harder to pick than a broken nose. Whether it is the revisions to the format, the interstate relocations or just the vibe there were again no tipsters scoring 9 in round 7. Thursday night’s game saw Geelong at home (in Perth) hosting their hub-mates (Collingwood) at Optus Stadium. Collingwood regained Jordan De Goey this round and Geelong were without Mitch Dun...Continue reading

09.01.2022 Prompt Footy Tipping - Pastor Sir Doug Nicholls round (Round , 2020) in review Round 13 of the 2020 AFL season just might have proved the superstition about the luck status of its number. Chris Smart was unlucky enough to miss putting in his tips for the first four games. Pat’s planning for upsets fell in a heap and games went very differently to how many of us thought they would. The lucky round got underway in Darwin on Friday evening. The Carlton Blues took on the Gold C...Continue reading

08.01.2022 Prompt Footy Tipping 2021 Round 9 in review Round 9 certainly had its share of upsets. Some upsetting performances as well as result upsets. Marvel Stadium saw the opening game of the round when the Saints hosted the Geelong Cats on Friday evening. The Saints dominated play early in the game but were horridly inaccurate when kicking for goal. They kicked 8 behinds before their first goal and that set the tone for the rest of the game. Geelong weren’t great but at least thei...Continue reading

06.01.2022 Prompt Footy Tipping - Round 6 review It is just as well that I can admit when I’m wrong. And, like all of us this round, there was a lot of wrong to admit to. The 2020 AFL season keeps throwing up some unexpected results. Thursday evening’s game between Geelong and Brisbane (at the SCG) was the first wrongness for the round. We all tipped Brisbane and to half time were probably still comfortable with that tip. Then the Cats got rolling and held the Lions to just 1 behind in ...Continue reading

06.01.2022 Prompt Footy Tipping 2021 Round 12 wrap up Just six games this round, and some of them were ultra-exciting. By half time in Friday evening’s clash between Melbourne and the Brisbane Lions, Melbourne supporters would have been chewing their fingers, having gnawed the nails away already. The Lions dominated play in that period and leaned from the way Adelaide had split up the defence of the Demons in round 11. 20 points ahead when the teams returned to the playing surface of ...Continue reading

05.01.2022 Second last round of Prompt Footy Tipping in review. Here we go, for the second last time this Season. Yes, the last round of the 18 round 2020 Home and Away Season starts Thursday this week (tomorrow). But we are looking back at Round 17, which concluded on Monday evening and the results weren’t quite what our tipsters predicted. St Kilda got off to a pretty good start against West Coast, way back on Thursday last week. But the Eagles bounced back, and the Saint missed oppor...Continue reading

03.01.2022 Prompt Footy Tipping - Round 11 There were 8 games in round 11. Wow, the numbers really bounce around this year. This round ended last night, on Wednesday 12th August. It seems it all started a long time ago but, it was only Saturday (8th). Port Adelaide took on the Richmond Tigers at Adelaide Oval. I’m sure it has been said before, but there is a reason the Power are on the top of the ladder. Richmond just didn’t bring their A Game and, despite some inaccuracy in goal kickin...Continue reading

01.01.2022 Prompt Footy Tipping - Round 14 in review Round 14 of the 2020 season has been run and won. Round 15 starts tomorrow, Tuesday 1st September, so there is only time for a brief look the weekend’s games. At Adelaide Oval on Thursday evening the round got underway with Hawthorn hosting Essendon in Adelaide. (2020 is a crazy Home & Away season). After a strong first half the Hawks couldn’t sustain their effort and the Bombers (with the returning Joe Danaher in full flight) overran...Continue reading
