20.01.2022 Great article about making Halloween Hallogreen! https://www.weekendnotes.com/hallowgreen-clean-up-australia/ "With a bit of forward planning we can avoid single-use costumes, non-sustainable decorations and excessive plastic packaging on lollies. And then there’s the small matter of cost: last year Australians spent around $159 million on Halloween confectionery alone, according to manufacturer Mars Wrigley. Here are some ideas about how to Step Up (and stay safe) this Halloween. "

19.01.2022 Keep on recycling & reducing your use of plastic even though Plastic Free July is nearly over! At my Prospect SA Living Smart course last night -some reminders: As small items and/or flat items are difficult to retrieve at the materials recovery facility it is best to collect them together inside a larger container of the same material before placing them in the recycle bin. Small plastic items, bread tags, lids as well as flat container lids; takeaway container lids, marg...arine, butter, yoghurt or ice-cream lids should be collected in a plastic bottle preferably clear (PET) bottle or plastic milk bottle. This will be collected and recycled as a mixed plastic. Ignore the numbers and apply the scrunch test ie if the plastic container is rigid and cant be scrunched or pops back into shape after it is scrunched, it can go in the recycling bin. The Australasian Recycling Label provides more information on what and how different parts of packaging can be recycled or if it cant be recycled: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYVfA8mGJYg #PlasticFreeJuly #ProspectLivingSmart #CityofProspect

19.01.2022 Do you look for the Australasian Recycling Label?? Check It! Before You Chuck It! to know which bin to recycle in. Check the Australasian Recycling Label (ARL), as part of a nationwide scheme to help take the confusion out of recycling. The ARL provides easy to understand instructions on how to correctly recycle all parts of a product’s packaging. Head to www.arl.org.au

03.01.2022 Pleased City of Prospect is with East Waste! Setting the record straight about Four Corners airing an American story about plastic recycling history and issues from America. 01.01.2022 Open space is scarce enough in our city. Voice your concerns as in Community Alliance letter to your Members of Parliament and Minister of Planning about : Regulation 119 of the Planning Act was varied under the radar, which allows the Government to withdraw funds from the Planning & Development Fund to pay for what must be, cost over-runs relating to the planning reforms. The fund is largely financed by a levy on developers and was meant to be used for open space or public realm infrastructure, not for the "planning website, database or online search facility".
