08.01.2022 How to control teenage acne. Part 2 . The right skincare and skin treatments. Acne in teens is caused by several factors, but removing excess oils and grime from your face at least twice daily can help prevent pores from getting clogged and inflamed. Use an oil-free cleanser and thoroughly wash your entire face (particularly your forehead) in the morning, just prior to going to bed, and after exercising. From onset of acne grade 1 , you should be implementing a good plan of... treatment hygiene and treatments. Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). AHAs such as glycolic acid and lactic acid have been used for many years by dermatologists to treat acne, typically as facial peels using 2030% solutions. The acids cause the surface layer of skin to shed, which has an exfoliating effect on acne. Many over-the-counter products such as facial washes and moisturizers contain a 4-6% concentration of AHAs. These products can be used daily as facial cleansers in order to deter acne, but the stronger solutions have more success with combating acne breakouts. AHAs can sting a little upon application and initially cause the acne and surrounding skin to look red and irritated before the medicinal benefits kick in. Well known cosmeceuticals containing AHAs and BHAs are highly recommended daily. You may also want to try beta hydroxy acids such as salicylic acid. 07.01.2022 Teenage Acne (Part 1) Different grades of Acne and how to control it. Acne is common in teenagers due to improper cleansing and dietary triggers. There are different grades of acne from I to IV . Most teenagers start on grade I to II, which are whiteheads and blackheads and normally just appear on forehead, nose, cheeks jaw and chin. If this is left untreated the the condition will increase to grade III to IV and will consist of papules and pustules. The main difference ...is the level of inflammation and profuse reddening due to squeezing of pimples and over active sebaceous glands producing an oily dirty film on the face that attract the bacteria at the beginning. This is the grade when infection spreads and becomes deeper and the risk of scarring increases. The most serious is when Grade III is left untreated and increases to Grade IV. At this stage, the condition is medically referred as cystic acne where the skin displays numerous pustules, papules with large cysts. There is severe inflammation and will be very painful. Often the infection will spread to the neck and shoulders and chest and may result to scarring and at this stage the only option is medical intervention. In order to stop the condition to getting to grade III and IV, teenagers are encouraged to start a good skincare regime and a course of skin treatments is highly recommended from the beginning of any breakouts of pimples (Grade I).
