25.01.2022 Drivers urged to travel safely ahead of this year’s Bathurst 1000 In the lead up to this year’s Supercars Australia event, NSW Police are urging motorists to tr...avel safely as they make their way to Mount Panorama this weekend. Although traffic will be considerably down on previous years, general duties and specialist police will be out in force targeting speeding, drink and drug driving, mobile phone use and seat-belt offences. Western Region Commander, Assistant Commissioner Geoff McKechnie, said road safety is everyone’s responsibility and motorists should avoid putting themselves and other road users at risk. There will be a significant police presence on all roads leading to Bathurst and people should obey the road rules, particularly speed limits, Assistant Commissioner McKechnie said. Dangerous or irresponsible behavior by drivers will not be tolerated and people should do everything they can to ensure the safety of themselves and those around them. Random drug and alcohol testing will be in place in and around Bathurst, and people are urged to take precautions to make sure they arrive safely and get home from the event in one piece. Driver behavior contributes to the large majority of fatal and injury crashes, so people need to drive to the conditions that are prevailing at the time, show patience and courtesy to other road users, Assistant Commissioner McKechnie said. Operation Bathurst, a high-visibility police operation which will also target anti-social behaviour and alcohol-related violence will run from Thursday 15 October until Sunday 18 October 2020. Further information about the event, including venue maps, transport and parking availability, can be found at: http://www.supercars.com/bathurst1000

21.01.2022 The NSW Government, together with the NSW Police Force, has announced a $1 million reward for information into the stabbing murder of Sydney man, Mark Russell, ...more than two years ago. Just after 11am on Sunday 25 February 2018, police and emergency services were called to a unit on Clisdell Street, Surry Hills, after the body of the man was located inside. The man was formally identified as 53-year-old resident, Mark Russell, and a post mortem examination revealed he died after being stabbed multiple times. A crime scene was established in the unit, which was examined by specialist forensic officers. Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and Surry Hills Police Area Command established Strike Force Fletcher to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr Russell’s death. Initial inquiries have revealed there was a group of people inside Mr Russell’s unit the night before his body was located, and witnesses reported hearing arguing or yelling about 10pm. Further witnesses reported Mr Russell had visitors during the day on Saturday 24 February 2018, but were unsure if they were the same people there later in the evening. Minister for Police and Emergency Services, David Elliott, said Mark Russell was brutally attacked in his home, which should have been his place of comfort and security. The NSW Government is offering up a $1 million reward for information relating to this disturbing and violent crime, because Mark Russell’s loved ones deserve answers, Mr Elliott said. Together with Homicide Squad detectives, we hope this reward will provide an incentive to anyone who knows anything about this attack to come forward. Please remember that no piece of information is insignificant. Homicide Squad Commander, Detective Acting Superintendent David Laidlaw, said police are diligently reviewing CCTV and forensic evidence obtained over the past two years as inquiries continue. Mr Russell’s murder was a horrific crime that shocked the tight-knit community of Woolloomooloo and caused unimageable heartache to his family, Det A/Supt Laidlaw said. As our investigation continues, police wish to speak with anyone who has not yet come forward about what they may have seen or heard in the days prior to his death. We’ve said it before, but these acts of violence will not be tolerated by police or the community, and our investigators will not rest until those involved are arrested and put before the courts, Det A/Supt Laidlaw said. Mr Russell’s sister, Julie Ann Stewart, joined police to announce the reward and re-appeal for anyone with information to come forward. The past two years have been absolutely devastating for our family, as we continue to grieve every day for Mark and the life he could have lived, Julie Ann said. Mark was a strong and vibrant character who had been through tough times in the years prior to his death but always knew how to bring a smile to friends, family and the local community. We hope the announcement of this reward may bring new leads to the investigators so we may finally get justice for Mark a much-loved brother, father, and friend and give our family answers as to why he was so cruelly taken from us. Anyone with information that may assist Strike Force Fletcher detectives is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report crime via NSW Police social media pages.

20.01.2022 Tips for having a Safe Party this Summer!!! Quakers Hill Police are urging party hosts to take some time to plan carefully. Parties are a great way for people to relax and enjoy themselves, but poor planning can lead to problems. Most party goers are responsible, but we’ve seen a number of parties spoilt by gatecrashers and people who cause damage in the immediate area. A few simple precautions and thorough planning can reduce the risk of issues arising as well as ensure a go...od time should be had by all. Police do not provide security at private parties. It is the host’s responsibility to ensure the safety of their guests, which also extends beyond their residence. We encourage people to maintain a safe party environment and be mindful of how their guests’ behaviour impacts on neighbours. If you are planning a function at home, we recommend you take the following precautions: Send out written invitations only, not via text message, e-mail or social networking sites such as Facebook. Remember it is illegal to buy or drink alcohol if you are under 18. It is also illegal for somebody to supply alcohol to a minor. Consider how your guests will get home. Organise transport for those who have had too much to drink. If gatecrashers arrive, act quickly. Refuse them entry and ask them to leave. If they do not leave, contact the police. Think about supervision/security for your party if it is a larger function - consider hiring licensed security personnel. Don’t allow people to wander around or congregate out the front of your house. Try to confine the party to a backyard, building or enclosed area as it easier for you to control your guests. Less impact on your neighbours. Be mindful of having people in your house that you don’t really know sometimes there is a temptation for a small % of society members to take something that doesn’t belong to them (common with phones, keys, Laptop computers etc). Avoid using front yards or street frontages as this attracts uninvited guests/gatecrashers. Be responsible with service of alcohol, regardless of your guests’ age. Remember, think safe, act safe and be safe. Also, don't forget to register your party by clicking this link; https://www.police.nsw.gov.au//party_sa/party_registration By registering your event, it informs the local Police (regardless of where you live) to be notified of the event, so that we are both aware, and can task our police accordingly.

12.01.2022 Pit lane isn't where you would expect to see an RBT site, but thanks to Australian Racing Drivers' Club and Driving Solutions a group of learner drivers had the... opportunity to experience just that, but without the added pressure of other motorists. The free program, which is run at Sydney Motorsport Park, is aimed at giving learner drivers the opportunity to drive around the track with their supervisors and gain confidence in night driving without the added pressure of other road user and oncoming traffic. The young drivers took part in a mock RBT site set up in pit lane where they could ask officers questions and learn the etiquette around being stopped for an RBT/RDT. It was also an opportunity for Traffic and Highway Patrol officers to engage with the young drivers in a neutral setting; Highway Patrol officers too often only get the opportunity to talk to motorists when the setting is not so positive.

06.01.2022 A national joint operation to target and disrupt the criminal activities of members and associates of the Hells Angels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang has resulted in 24... people being charged with dozens of offences across Australia. The operation, coordinated by National Task Force Morpheus, involved police and other government agencies and partners from across Australia and New Zealand joining forces yesterday, Wednesday 14 October 2020, to conduct a series of 28 coordinated search warrants and disruption activities targeting the Hells Angels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang. Yesterday’s activity involved the following law enforcement agencies: - Australian Federal Police - Australian Border Force - Western Australia Police Force - Northern Territory Police - Queensland Police Service - South Australia Police - Victoria Police - New South Wales Police Force The results resulted in the seizure of firearms, ammunition, cash and drugs. The drugs included methylamphetamine, cocaine, steroids and 30L of GHB. In addition, one clandestine drug lab and a hydroponic setup were located indicating the cultivation and manufacture of drugs was taking place. In addition to the arrests and seizures made yesterday, valuable intelligence was gained which will be shared with all law enforcement agencies through the Australian Criminal and Intelligence Commission’s Australian Gangs Intelligence Coordination Centre. Detective Superintendent Tony Longhorn, WA Police Force’s representative on National Task Force Morpheus, and spokesperson for yesterday’s national operation, said the coordination of activities across jurisdictions is a critical aspect of investigations and intelligence gathering. Outlaw motorcycle gangs use their networks of chapters across the country, and across the world, to facilitate a range of criminal activities including the activities linked to the illicit drug and firearm trades. By working together across national and international borders we gather important intelligence to assist with targeted disruption activities and build our intelligence holdings to support current and future investigations. The Hells Angels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang in particular has a long history of violence and intimidation and have strong links to other Serious & Organised Crime Groups, not just in Australia but across the world through their overseas Chapters. The members of National Task Force Morpheus are committed to disrupting and dismantling the criminal networks linked to outlaw motorcycle gangs and will do everything within their powers to protect the community from the dangers outlaw motorcycle gangs pose. Australian Federal Police National Anti-Gangs Squad Detective Acting Superintendent Jason McArthur said Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs are violent, well-organised criminal networks that have zero respect for the law and regard themselves as above it. They are not families or a ‘brotherhood’. The Hells Angels like every other bikie gang is trying to recruit new members and associates only to facilitate its criminal ventures and make money, he said. Outlaw motorcycle gangs’ operations are not restricted by state or international borders, which is why the AFP established the National Anti-Gangs Squad with state and territory police, the Australian Taxation Office and the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission, to work with all of our partners in a coordinated approach to fight gang-related crime. As part of National Task Force Morpheus, the AFP-led National Anti-Gangs Squad brings Commonwealth capabilities and international networks to help disrupt these high-risk gangs and protect the Australian community. Our message to OMCGs and their supporters is clear we are working together, and we will be relentless. We will outsmart you. National Task Force Morpheus is a joint initiative of Australia and New Zealand law enforcement and Australian Commonwealth agencies targeting the crime associated with Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs (OMCG). The National Taskforce has been working cooperatively to prevent OMCG from establishing in our communities to reduce harm and ensure community safety and wellbeing in public spaces.
