The best advice we can give is to keep your children inside wherever possible. Children with a heart or lung condition, including asthma may be more sensitive to the effects of breathing in smoke. If your child suffers from any of these conditions, medication should be kept close-by and taken as prescribed. Of these current cases, the vast majority do not require hospitalisation. This chart shows the number of people in hospital (including in ICU and ventilated) as a percentage of current or active’ cases in each state and territory. Nationally, 259 people (or 8 per cent per cent of current cases) are receiving hospital care, including 81 (or 3 per cent per cent of current cases) in ICU. Of those in ICU, 36 (1 per cent per cent of current cases) are ventilated.

To celebrate the day, our RCH Archiv...es and Collections team has produced three new online exhibitions, showcasing the contribution and historical origins of a selection of our 24 allied health specialities at the RCH. The RCH Orthotic and Prosthetic Department, historically known as the ‘Splint Shop’, has provided expertly crafted splints and braces for children suffering from polio, osteomyelitis and tuberculosis of the bone since the late1800s. In 2020, our highly skilled team is involved in the treatment of a wide range of neuromuscular-skeletal conditions, and wooden and leather splints have been replaced by advanced technological devices such as prosthetic arms that feature microprocessor-controlled fingers as well as prosthetic legs in bright colours and fun patterns.
