Established in 1966, the Borgo family have been making quality gourmet Italian style delicacies for 50 years. Now we offer a selection of their products at the KG markets each week. 22.01.2022 It's been a while since I posted anything here, especially since we retired from the markets. (Ten years was enough for us.) We are still alive and kicking, just taking it a little easier now. We've had a chance to get around and visit other markets and leisurely eat our way around town. The main reason for this post is to let everyone know that finally an oasis has been established on the northside in the Neighborhood Market Co. at the new Park Laneways at Everton plaza in E...verton Park. It's an impressive Deli and fruit shop with a full service deli and incredible high quality fruit and vege. They have a massive range of all the segreti antipasti that we used to have at the Kelvin Grove markets, as well as a good range of smallgoods and cheese that will have you salivating for more. I've never seen so many varieties of truffle oil in one place. Thumbs up to Emily and Costas and family for bringing such a quality establishment to the northside. Please support this business and make them welcomed to be a part of our neighborhood! See more

21.01.2022 Congratulations to all the organisers and volunteers, who worked tirelessly to put together an authentic Italian festival that we can be proud of. Bravo to you... all and looking forward to next year which I know will be bigger and better! Fantastic food, entertainment and facilities........ and did I mention the food??? Only thing missing was Antipasti platters.... but well fix that for next year!

21.01.2022 Special Christmas Poem ... TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HE LIVED ALL ALONE, IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE, MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE. I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY, WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE, AND TO SEE JUST WHO, IN THIS HOME, DID LIVE. I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE, NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE. NO STOCKING BY MANTLE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND, ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES, OF FAR DISTANT LANDS. WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS, A SOBER THOUGHT, CAME THROUGH MY MIND. FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY, I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY. THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, SILENT, ALONE, CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR, IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME. THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, THE ROOM IN DISORDER, NOT HOW I PICTURED, A TRUE AUSIE SOLDIER. WAS THIS THE HERO, OF WHOM ID JUST READ? CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED? I REALISED THE FAMILIES, THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT, OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS, WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT. SOON ROUND THE WORLD, THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY, AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE, A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY. THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM, EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR, BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE. I COULDNT HELP WONDER, HOW MANY LAY ALONE, ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE, IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME. THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT, A TEAR TO MY EYE, I DROPPED TO MY KNEES, AND STARTED TO CRY. THE SOLDIER AWAKENED, AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE, "SANTA DONT CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE; I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DONT ASK FOR MORE, MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS.." THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP, I COULDNT CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP. I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS, SO SILENT AND STILL, AND WE BOTH SHIVERED, FROM THE COLD NIGHTS CHILL. I DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE, ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT, THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR, SO WILLING TO FIGHT. THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE, WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA, ITS CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE." ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT. "MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT." This poem was written by a Peacekeeping soldier stationed overseas. The following is his request. I think it is reasonable to think of our Armed Service Personnel away from home over Christmas without their family. PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favour of sending this to as many people as you can. Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to all of the service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Lets try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. May people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Please, do your small part to plant this small seed.

19.01.2022 Having missed being at Kelvin Grove markets last week due to the deluge of wind and rain, we unfortunately are going to miss this saturday as well. It is the 10th birthday celebrations of the Kelvin Grove markets, so it is going to be a fantastic day!!!! I have the 40th year high school reunion on that day and have already committed myself to attend. I look forward to seeing old friends and catching up on fond memories from my days at St James.... We hope to attend the Bardon market on Sunday for any KG customers that wish to come. We will be back at Kelvin Grove market Saturday 18 June.
