25.01.2022 Embrace, extend, extinguish... despicable, Microsoft...
25.01.2022 Hi guys, thanks for the likes! Just in case you "liked" the post but not the page, this is the one I would appreciate clicked. Cheers to all, it helps a lot.
24.01.2022 There is a subset of tech customers who crave the different - and I am one of them. My first non-practical phone was a SonyEricson Xperia, because it had a pop-out keyboard for media and game playing. I loved it for years. The last few years has seen nothing but boring practical phones - the internals were innovative, but it was always in a rectanglular footprint. Until now! I think I've found my next phone - giving me the physical and technical innovative difference from the masses I crave. Out in October (I hope!).
23.01.2022 "Embrace, extend, extinguish" was a malevolent strategy found in a Bill Gates letter. It's a strategy shared by all business monopoly's, or those trying to be one, including Mozilla (the makers of Firefox), who are not as customer-focused on privacy issues as they might have you believe. Browser wars - it's a thing. My personal big 3 browser choices are Brave, Opera and Epic. VPN is built into Epic and an easy option (and free) in Opera. (PS: You need to update Epic every 4 weeks or so to keep the built-in VPN sources fresh).
23.01.2022 Did you know your browser has a bookmarks bar? You can turn it on from your browser options. When you do, a bar appears near the top of the page. You can drag any link to it. These links will always be showing, so you will have instant access to any website you like.
22.01.2022 Another bit of musical fun. https://apps.musedlab.org/groovepizza/
20.01.2022 Want a nice trick for your bookmarks bar? 1. Type this into the address bar: data:text/html, 2. If all goes well, you can now write straight on the blank screen you see, making this a super-quick notepad when you need one while online. 3. Drag this to your bookmarks bar and the "tabpad" editor will be available at a click of a button.
19.01.2022 I just saved $10 on a purchase. This plugin for your browser will popup and add the best coupons to your purchase, automatically (if available). If you buy stuff online, installing this is a great idea. Just click the link below.

18.01.2022 Something really useful to do with an old phone. Say goodbye to grotty dead batteries forever!
17.01.2022 Coz who wouldn't love secret KFC :)
16.01.2022 So I wanted to scan a document and it's the first time I've tried on my new Windows 10 PC. The driver needed to be loaded, so I went to the Canon website. But what's this?! No support for windows 10? What can I do now? Dowload the Windows 8.1 version, still available. Worked a treat. So if you have an old device and need a driver that no longer exists, give this trick a shot.
15.01.2022 Anyone else find the term "routine espionage" disconcerting? I love the Archer image used here :)
13.01.2022 Not all big companies are, ""Embrace, extend, extinguish". Some actually do care very much for their customers. Some even try to warn us when the government is invading our/their privacy, even though for them it is illegal to do so. If privacy is important, see if the company you are going to use has one of these.
12.01.2022 A great free security package for Mac PC's.
11.01.2022 Scared to buy stuff online? This awesome site allows you to generate one time or multitime temporary credit cards that can be instantly cancelled. Brilliant!
10.01.2022 I googled "benjamin suarez" to find his book at an online store called "scientific advertising" (a classic). At the top of the page, I was shocked to find the image you see below. If you are a parent, does this freak you out just a little bit?! TAKE ONLINE PRIVACY SERIOUSLY.
09.01.2022 Very few people understand the hidden nature of "identity" in our modern society. If you lose it, the pain can come from so many directions that victims find themselves in a real nightmare situation. In short - don't take you ID lightly! Losing it can mean a world of hurt.
09.01.2022 Gotta keep learnin' :)
07.01.2022 I just spent the afternoon listening to a postcast from my favourite computer security specialist. Here's something fun to try. 1. Click the link below. You'll get a either a tidy list or a string of apparent gibberish as a reply (it's actually a data format called JSON). This will depend on the browser you use. 2. After the first few characters, you'll see four numbers, looking like this: 123.345.567.789... 3. Copy this (dots and all) into a new browser tab and press the enter key. Do you recognise what you see? It's your moden's admin panel! That's how "pinpointable" we are to anyone who wants to find us. So don't download those movies OK? :) I haven't tested to see if it works through a VPN, but I might try that if I get a minute.
07.01.2022 A crypto hijacking from a legitimate email with a legitimate attatchment - it was an inter-company email and a real email address. The hijackers intercepted the legitimate email and swapped the attachment with ransomware. A cybersecurity expert says that today, ransomware is "out of control" and has caused the deaths of at least 6 people (a hospital was attacked). Beware out there!
07.01.2022 Did you know Microsoft has updated their web browser Edge? Nether did I. They've tried to make it a game-changer - a big ask when the competition is Chrome. Cick the link to test it out.
06.01.2022 Facebooks' Whatsapp is using bait and switch to steal all your online data, including photos, conversations and contacts. I recommend you uninstall Whatsapp now, and do NOT agree to the new terms of service. If you want to use a safe messenger that everyone is moving to, use Signal.
05.01.2022 Mozilla, wel known for Firefox, is less well known for their email desktop client that has been around "forever", Thunderbird. I use it daily. 21 years ago a user requested openPGP support to encrypt emails - 19 days ago, that feature was finally granted! Better late than never. No complaints, it is free after all.
05.01.2022 What can you do if your laptop is stolen? Set this app up before it is stolen, and you can do a lot. See where it is. Get remote control of your missing laptop and ask the thief to return it. If that doesn't work, then kill your data remotely. All very handy. https://preyproject.com/
05.01.2022 This message will self destruct in 5 seconds...
04.01.2022 What, again?! Windows extended benchmark of quality is signaling potential long-term failure...
03.01.2022 Another way to bring life to an old PC is to install Chrome OS onto it. This turns your PC into an android native apps machine. You will never design buildings or edit movies with it, but for a general purpose internet/games/news/media machine, it will be ideal. The "look and feel" will be like a standard tablet. https://www.howtogeek.com//how-to-get-a-chrome-os-like-op/
03.01.2022 How old is you google chrome version? Even with millions of dollars of coding development, Chrome doesn't update automatically. If you want to make sure you are running the latest version of Chrome, go to settings (3 vertical dots), help, about google chrome. Chrome should update automatically. Make sure you check the version in 5 minutes or so. The latest update out this week is version 86.
03.01.2022 Google is too clever to pay tax, so this is a money-grab that's harder to avoid. At least, that's how I look at it, seeing otherwise google is very buddy-buddy with the US gov.
03.01.2022 I found this as part of my casual Linux research. This program is great way to bring modern and commonly understood apps (Android) onto your Linux PC. With seamless integration, your machine will never bug you with low space warnings, like your (my) phone always seems to do. https://anbox.io/
02.01.2022 Hey guys, would you please "like" this page please and help me get seen in search? Thank you ;)
02.01.2022 Your bookmarks bar is for more than just websites. Google "bookmarklets" for all sorts of nifty tools you can get working with a touch of a button. One I like to use will turn off those dots you see when you type a password, and reveals what I am typing. There are many more things that can be done like this.
01.01.2022 Ubuntu is a Linux family (Mint is based on this),
01.01.2022 Happily fell "victim" to a discount coupon for a new watch. Still, Honey came up with a near 50% better coupon! You should use Honey in your browser when shopping online... nothing to lose and $$ to gain.
