14.01.2022 Today the Premier tabled the Path to Treaty Report and our Statement of Commitment, accepting the recommendations for Treaty with First Nations Queenslanders. ...We will establish a Treaty Advancement Committee and a First Nations Institute to lead a process of truth telling, treaty making, and capability building to support First Nations people in this process. We know Queensland’s shared history has had lasting impacts, often passed on to the next generation. Treaty provides greater recognition and learning from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who have occupied and held rights over this land for more than 60,000 years. Treaty is for all Queenslanders and together we are building self-determination, truth-telling, local decision making, and creating better life outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders.

Today AIATSIS revealed the Ngunnawal name of the AIATSIS building in an official naming ceremony Now named Maraga, it is the first Canberra ...building to have a Ngunnawal name and is an acknowledgement and celebration of the region’s long Aboriginal history. Selected by AIATSIS Council members and the Ngunnawal community, ‘Maraga’ is the Ngunnawal word for waddy shield. It is a reflection of the work AIATSIS does to protect, advance and nurture Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples diverse history, cultures and heritage.

05.01.2022 The Queensland Government has passed the Meriba Omasker Kaziw Kazipa Act 2020 (Qld), recognising the traditional child rearing practices of Torres Strait Island...er families. Introduced in July by Torres Strait Islander and Member for Cook, Cynthia Lui, the Act recognises cultural relationships in law, aligning cultural identity with legal identity. Lui said legally recognising Torres Strait Islander child rearing practices acknowledges the strength of this enduring culture and is [an] historic milestone for the Queensland Government’s relationship with First Nations peoples. Considered a legend, Unaipon's contribution to Australian society helped to break many Indig...enous Australian stereotypes. In his book 'My life story' he reminisces of early childhood, the arrival of Mr. Taplin as missionary, his love of learning; describing his interest in scientific inventions, including his own improvement of sheep shears and discusses his work with the Aborigines Friends Association.
