24.01.2022 What better way to spend your time off during iso than building a log hut on a hill? Declan & Andrew spent a chilly day today installing the bearers and joists, so not far off having the fireplace in!

20.01.2022 No one can deny the effectiveness of a pack of Jack Russells hunting, however sometimes an abnormally large maremma is also required for aerial surveillance.

18.01.2022 Farming in the dry time - trying to match stocking rate to feed on hand

17.01.2022 Nice to see an upward trend. Still a long way to go till rolling "average".

17.01.2022 We didn't ask for much! 60mm fell in 8 days. 18th Nov compared to 4th Dec 2019. The resilience of this landscape is astounding despite the driest year since 1919 (and we'll likely break that record).

09.01.2022 A belated Merry Christmas to our followers! We have enjoyed an influx of family and friends and welcomed a little sprinkle of rain over the last few days. Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday season.

08.01.2022 Just another day in paradise. On the right is a native shelter belt we planted 9 years ago. Time has flown and how the trees have grown.. A diverse cover crop on the left which is helping build soil fertility and eventually grazed when we restock.

08.01.2022 Taking bookings for the autumn pasture and winter crop sowing season! Tom - 0408 503 224 Andrew - 0429 501 223

08.01.2022 Redbank certainly a different colour to 2019 new pastures doing well with the rain we've had. #nonitrogenapplied

08.01.2022 We were lucky to cop another storm this afternoon, followed by further soaking rain this evening. What a change!

07.01.2022 September is Biodiversity month so we thought we'd share some things we do to promote it on Redbank. Recently we found signs of predated aphids on the cover crop turnips. An exciting sign of parasitic wasps and other beneficial insects keeping the ecosystem in check. Providing diverse habitat, such as trees, logs, shrubs, native pastures & cover crops for beneficial insects, birds, lizards etc is crucial for managing the whole system, as they aid in controlling pest populat...ions. We plant and manage native habitat for its long term health on our farm. Last year we joined with NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust to help conserve part of our box-gum grassy woodland, which is an ecologically endangered ecosystem on the Northern Tablelands. This involves fencing, planned grazing management and timely pest & weed control to conserve the health of the area. Photos are Redbank 2019. Some of these places won't be looking quite as green now with the on-going drought conditions. One day closer to rain. #biodiversity #BCT #covercrops #nativeveg

03.01.2022 ANNOUNCEMENT! We are excited to announce as a family and a business that we are expanding into a contract sowing enterprise. We've put our money where our mouth is and decided to invest in machinery that allows for crops & pastures to be sown with minimal soil disturbance and maximum soil coverage (one of our core business principles). We feel this is of particular importance during this drought where moisture is our major limiting factor and therefore the health and structur...e of our soils is vital for absorbing & retaining rain when it finally falls. We've also invested into GPS technology which ensures seed and fertiliser is placed exactly where we want it with minimal overlap and waste. We look forward to being active contributors to the sustainability and improvement of the soils and businesses on the Northern Tablelands and beyond through no-till soil, pasture & crop management. Our new double disc drill is also capable of sowing into thick stubble &/or cover and hence at the forefront of direct drilling into high residue situations. More to come! Regards, The Faithfull family See more
