25.01.2022 Nearly there.....

25.01.2022 Yesterday and today was spent on these curved and sloping walls. We still have to cut the slope into them before they get filled with concrete, but basic construction is done. I love the look of the curve in the wall as it follows the driveway, making it look as if it was always planned that way #retainingwalls #landscaper #sydneylandscaper #landscaping #sydneylandscaping #blockwall #kustomoutdoorliving #ithastoworkwiththeexistinghouse @ Box Hill

25.01.2022 Finished this little deck restoration a few weeks back. Started with very weathered and rotten hardwood (see final picture) which we stripped, we then put @gtapeaustralia G-Tape on all joists and bearers to extend their life, and finished with new @ekodeck_ Plus Designer boards. Stairs are simple powder coated metal stringers with deck boards as treads. This was a simple budget tidy up for the owners that made the deck useable once again, and with the Ekodeck composite decking, an occasional wash is all the maintenance they will ever need #kustomoutdoorliving #sydneylandscaper #sydneydeck #compositedecking

25.01.2022 When you try and cut an angle at 53.6 for a stair stringer but you only get 53.8 on your busted up 15 year old mitre saw. Also, it’s a compound angle #itsthesmalldetailsthatmakethedifference #timberstairs #sydneylandscaper #kustomoutdoorliving #outdoorstairs

21.01.2022 This one is going to look spectacular! Mitre corners on decking are never easy as decking expands and contracts. Add a steel frame, hidden fasteners and composite decking and it’s close to impossible to get them perfect. And have them stay that way! This mitre has been in place for 4 days now with zero movement in the corner, so I’m hoping the method I’ve used will keep it in place forever #decking #compositedecking #sydneylandscaper #landscaping #landscaper #decks #ekodeck

20.01.2022 A lot of people don’t recess letterboxes into rough faced walls. It takes time and skill to get it looking neat Which do you think looks better? #kustomoutdoorliving #sydneylandscaper #blockwalls #versawall #letterbox #landscaping #itsthedetailthatmakesthedifference @ Box Hill

20.01.2022 Yesterday was a bit of a tidy up day. Cleaned up our offcuts and leftovers area, levelled this out and then laid some stepping pavers. I love random paths that meander through an area, but I also love straight lines, especially when it’s a practical area like this path from laundry to clothesline. If it’s going to be straight it needs to be super straight, and this is super straight #kustomoutdoorliving #steppingpavers #pathway #sydneylandscaper #landscaping

19.01.2022 If your landscaper doesn’t put weedmat of some sort under pebbles then get a new landscaper. It’s one of the many short cuts we see. Saves you (or the landscaper) some dollars but it means your beautiful decorative pebbles will gradually sink into the soil, turning into something like this after only a couple of years #badlandscaping #notkustomoutdoorliving

16.01.2022 Part of today was the installation of this curved (and sloping) edging. I’m happy with how it turned out, but... It wasn’t what I would choose. I wanted to either make this whole raised area a garden bed and plant out with a couple of small feature trees and a variety of shrubs and a ground cover. Or run edging straight across from where the wall steps in on the RHS and then have a small feature tree surround by a hedge. Up until a few weeks ago it was going to just be lawn. ...Then the customers decided, well after the walls were built, that they would like a hedge along the side of the driveway, as that was what was going on the other side of the driveway. So that is what is going in, and of course it needs edging to separate it from the turf. These customers have agreed with almost all my suggestions, but on this one we didn’t agree. Which is fine. At the end of the day we are creating something for the customer, something that they will be happy with for many years to come. My job is to suggest and recommend but also to listen to the customer. It’s something I learnt a long time ago and it definitely leads to happier customers #edging #sydneylandscaper #kustomoutdoorliving See more

15.01.2022 Last week we turned the piles of soil into a super smooth turf underlay, then laid 180sqm of Sir Walter Buffalo over the top. Presto! A (nearly) ready to go simple backyard. #newturf #sirwalterbuffalo #sydneylandscaper #kustomoutdoorliving. We started this week back at our Box Hill job cutting the slopes on the retaining walls and capping off the masonry stairs #retainingwall #blockwall #outdoorstairs #masonrystairs #asaphotographerimaverygoodlandscaper @ Sydney, Australia

15.01.2022 This is one of the first jobs I did working for myself. It was a tidy up job that included new lawns. I took about 2.5 tonne of soil away from this lawn area to get it flat and even. Pretty happy with how this turned out #kustomoutdoorliving #sydneylandscaper #sydneylandscaping #sirwalterbuffalo #newlawn #newturf

15.01.2022 Finally! It’s been a long time coming, but this job is finished. There’ll be a few more posts of this one over the next week or so, but here’s a just after we started and a just before we finished comparison. We made some changes... #sydneylandscaper #kustomoutdoorliving #landscaping #retainingwalls

14.01.2022 I once described landscaping as just moving stuff from one place to another. This is 9 tonne of stuff I have to move now, with more to follow #kustomoutdoorliving #sydneylandscaper #newturf #watchthisspace

12.01.2022 My last customer made an extra payment on top of what the contract was for as a thank you, and my current customer has just given me a gift and some bottles of sparkling wine. I’m going to take those things as signs that my customers are happy #kustomoutdoorliving #sydneylandscaper #happycustomers #mycustomersareamazing

11.01.2022 Deck frame is ready to go now including support for the bench seating. You might notice some joists have been G-Taped but most have not. G-Tape is generally used to protect timber frames, and while there is some suggestion it will stop squeaking in steel framed decks, that’s not something I’ve ever encountered. But these joists are taped in all the places where they may be visible between the boards, so all gaps between deck boards will be black. It’s a little thing, but details like that lift a deck from good to amazing #thedetailsmakethedifference #decks #decking #compositedecking #sydneylandscaper #landscaper #landscaping #kustomoutdoorliving

11.01.2022 Some photos of a little bench seat/storage box I made 3 years ago whilst working for @redbellylandscapes.goldcoast. Flat sections on the sides of the seat were for pot plants. This was a beautiful piece that I was super proud of how well it turned out #kustomoutdoorliving #deck #sydneylandscaper #outdoorstorage #timberdeck

09.01.2022 A little project for a friend that has taken much too long and is still in progress; custom made dollies for planter boxes and potted plants on a balcony. We made 3 of the low level ones and 2 of the raised ones, all built and powder coated to suit the style of the verandah. Someone (me) was too excited to have these finished and forgot to take suitable photographs We can offer solutions to every Outdoor Living need you have, even when it has to be completely Kustom made #kustomoutdoorliving #sydneylandscaping #sydneylandscaper #balconygarden #badpun

08.01.2022 On Friday we made and fitted this staircase. Looks pretty straight forward, but its actually 122mm wider at the bottom and had to be constructed so that it could be removed reasonably easily and no footings within 1.5m of the boundary as there is an easement below. Fun times #itsthesmalldetailsthatmakethedifference #timberstairs #sydneylandscaper #kustomoutdoorliving #outdoorstairs

05.01.2022 Colourbond gates are the most simple solution to securing a backyard but a good install definitely makes a difference. First we cut down and re-welded standard gate styles from @dunn_and_farrugia_fencing, powder coated these custom styles, matched the top of the gate and the infill panel to the boundary fence height whilst making the gates 30mm shorter than the infill panel so there would be a gap under the gate but not the infill panel. Hinges are mounted so they aren’t seen... when the gates are closed. Finished it with basic colour coded hardware and screws, also from @dunn_and_farrugia_fencing. Gaps are big enough to not jam on the opening lever nor bigger than they need to be and are, of course, perfectly even. Even on the simple stuff a good install from someone who cares makes a difference #kustomoutdoorliving #gates #sidegates #sydneylandscaper #landscaping #thedetailsmatter #lovewhatyoudo @ Box Hill See more

02.01.2022 This came up in my personal Facebook memories from 6 years ago. I’d only been landscaping for about a year and a half at this point but already had the attention to detail that makes all my customers happy they chose Kustom Outdoor Living #alwaysproudofmywork #kustomoutdoorliving #sydneylandscaper #retainingwalls #blockwalls #heronblocks

02.01.2022 This is a job we finished a few months back now for a lovely young family. The sand stone wall is by @hills_garden_guy but everything else is by us. There are a few details on this job that I love, and the overall finish is spot on . Of course We have a few suppliers to thank for this one: @alpine_nurseries for the plants, @amberkellyville for edge pavers and sandstone sealer, @jbbuffaloturf for the Sir Walter Buffalo, @klssandstone for the custom sized stepping pavers, @narellansandandsoil for the seemingly rare onyx pebbles, #parkleasandandsoil for the @formboss.steel.edging, @simonsseconds for the sandstone edge pavers, #turtlenurseryandlandscapesupplies for soil, sand and most of the decorative pebbles and of course to @bunnings at Rouse Hill for bits and pieces. #kustomoutdoorliving #sydneylandscaping #sydneylandscaper
