21.01.2022 Senior Volleyball Last Friday our Senior Volleyballers travelled to Evans River Community School for the Open Boys and Girls Zone Volleyball Gala Day. The event was held indoors and doubled as both the preliminary knockout stages for the 2021 CHS Knockout and a Zone trial to attend the North Coast trials in Week 3 next year. The boys started the day against Alstonville and dominated from the outset winning comfortably in two straight sets. The girls followed, also against Al...stonville who were competition favourites. After giving away large starts in each set the girls came back from a set down to win 2-1 (22-20 in the decider). In the final the boys and girls both faced off against Casino. The boys looked in control comfortably taking the first set before Casino fought back to take the match into a decider. Some composed defending, long rallies and aggressive finishing at the net saw the boys prevail as winners of our zone. They will now take on the winner of Far North Coast for progression in the State Knockout. The girls however found the going a little tougher finding their opponents strengths more often than their weaknesses losing two close sets to finish runners up. Congratulations to the following students who were selected in their Northern Rivers Zone teams: Hamish, Raphael, Jayden, Lexi and James (first reserve). A massive thank you, to coach and Boys Zone selector Nick Gallagher and also to Belinda Fleming and Ian Judd who have helped train these young athletes. John Eakin | PDHPE Faculty See more

20.01.2022 Cultural Pride Uniform I would like to send a massive thank you and congratulations to two of our deadly Year 9 Aboriginal students, who were the leaders and motivators of Richmond River's new cultural pride uniform range. Both Teshika and Tanayha identified during their Personalised Learning Plan process that having an Aboriginal designed uniform for all students and staff, would not only make them want to wear their school uniforms, but it would share their sense of c...ultural pride across our whole school community. I would like to personally thank Teshika and Tanayha for initiating such an awesome idea and applaud them for being such proud ambassadors when it comes to Aboriginal culture. Teshika and Tanayha were both gifted a polo and hoodie on behalf of the RRHC school community as a thank you. Keep up the deadly work girls! Mirryndah Nixon | Aboriginal Education Officer See more

17.01.2022 Today marks the beginning of National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week. NAIDOC is usually held every year in early July but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, NAIDOC Week was postponed and the National NAIDOC Committee announced that this year celebrations will be held in November. NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements and is an opportunity to recognise the contributions that Indige...nous Australians make to our country and our society. This year, the theme for NAIDOC Week, which will be celebrated from 8 to 15 November inclusive, is 'Always Was, Always Will Be'. Today we recognize the importance of NAIDOC Week within our school community with one student volunteer reading an Acknowledgement to Country with pride, confidence and respect in each roll call group.
