21.01.2022 The Tenere 700 suspension testing started today with the Andreoni and Ohlins forks back to back. Day 1, 350kms real world adventure bike suspension testing. Bikes setup and loaded as adventure bikes should be and ridden on an actual adventure. The boys are saying both the Andreoni and Ohlins adjusters on the fork sets are easy to adjust and every adjustment made, results in a noticeable change. They both made wholesale changes at the start and then fine tuned to their likin...g. Both fork sets are plush initially yet don’t blow through the stroke on the erosion mounds. Is the extra cost of the Ohlins worth it compared to the Andreoni’s? No, not in their opinion at this stage The Tractive X-Perience shock being tested was great out of the box, Crash ended up with the high comp 9 (range 19) out and the slow speed 10 out (range 22) Rebound started at 10 out, but Crash has changed it to 18 (range 23) tonight, to test tomorrow. They have another 350kms tomorrow to test, swap & share input and data. Next week we will test the twin piston Tractive shock and the pressurized 35mm fork cartridges, also from Tractive. 10.01.2022 The suspension testing continues this weekend. Teknik have purchased a set of Ohlins NIX30 Adventure fork cartridge's to test in TB's bike, they will get a run on the shock dyno before fitting. Crash will have the Andriani off-road cartridge forks TB’s been testing in his bike for his input this weekend. TB has done over 4000kms on the Andriani’s and sounds very impressed. A large shipment of Tractive suspension has arrived at Tekniks today from the Netherlands. For those ...that don't know who Tractive is, they are the suspension manufacturer producing Touratech suspension components. Crash will test the Tractive X-Perience shock in the back of his 700 this weekend, while TB we will test the up spec Tractive X-treme dual piston shock next week along with the pressurized 35mm fork cartridges from Tractive. 05.01.2022 New Year Adventure bike suspension testing continues for Teknik Motorsport 510kms today x 2 bikes and two different setups. Sand, twin trails, wet tracks we have done it all. To date we have completed thousands of kms testing over the last 6 months so it’s done right. Today we’ve completed all the Tractive components for the 700 including the 35mm pressurised cartridges. Quality gear that tests well. We have the Ohlins bike going well now Crash has spent sometime dialing ...it in and rates it but we need to make a spring change when Nick’s back at work so it can continue. European stuff is valved different to our stuff, some of it is very different actually. We also learnt what happens when you make the bike 25-30mm taller at each end. At first we thought it was just us but it’s a view shared by a particular Dakar rider we discussed the higher bike setup with him as he has same setup. Next we have the Rally Raid 35mm open cartridge fork kits and the K-Tech valve kits fitted to the OEM forks and shock to test. Again we’d like to stress this is all learning what the best in the industry are doing so Tekniks can develop both OEM and aftermarket suspension for your 700 that suits Aussie conditions. We have learnt that the European settings differ from what our testers like in some instances. If you didn't test it all how would you know? Thanks to the Rideadv crew for all the extra workshop hours swapping components and riding. 04.01.2022 Camel rear tanks, what's the word? So for those asking, we have one and have started using it. We will do a review on our YouTube channel soon as well as some other products we've purchased so look out for that. Questions we've been asked so far: * The weight is only on one side, it throws the bike out of balance? - The exhaust is on the other side and the standard one weighs more than the tank full of fuel.... * This one was TB's concern and he has admitted he was wrong. The weight is up too high and too far back, it ruins the bike’s handling The weight is lower than the fuel in factory front fuel tank and in a fair better place than adding a Rotopax, jerry can or fuel bladder to the cargo rack. The fuel from the Camel Tank empties first so any effect on handling is minimal. Lots of rally bikes have side mounted rear tanks. * We have had Rotopax on our bike since we first got our 700 and everyone's ridden it like that. Even when MADtv tested the bike pre-launch they rode it with a Rotopax on-board no one’s mentioned it. * "Do we use the Rotopax much on our rides?" No we would use them more for customers, out west when we did the pre-runs we did because of turn arounds. * "Is it hard it install?" No its very easy, you wont need to take ANYTHING of a standard bike moving forward as the kits being modified to work with a standard tail piece. We had a Camel tail tidy we'd purchased for testing so it went straight on. So far - The Camel tank works great, doesn't touch anything, doesn't get hit when bottoming the rear end and fits with our racks. It fits up super easy even with Greg pegs and rack mounts. As with anything we buy and test we don't give a yes or a no until its done at least 4 or 5 thousand kms so its early days but looks positive. *Full disclosure, since we purchased and started using the Camel Tank Cory the owner has been in touch and we have agreed to do some long term, harsh environment testing for some Camel products. We will as always continue to purchase the products so we have the right to give a full and fair review. And yes moving forward Camel have provided us with dealer discount with that understanding. Results: The win went to Toby Price on the opening 277km special from Jeddah to Bisha in Saudi Arabia. The Top 3 finished within 32 seconds of each other while Ricky Brabec loses 18 minutes to finish in 24th.
